Transcript
00:00From the top 10 on the Billboard charts to Grammy nominated with Folded, how are we feeling tonight?
00:05I'm so good. I'm so blessed to be here. I'm so blessed today is going how it's going.
00:10And I just, zero complaints, no notes.
00:12We love no notes.
00:13No notes.
00:15And I mean, I want to also talk to you about, like, the song.
00:18You know, there's people on the internet that talk about the meaning, like, well, if I'm mad, if I'm going to be Folded.
00:24So how do you, when you see the people talk about the meaning like that, how do you feel about that version?
00:27I think great art is creative conversation.
00:30And it has started such a long conversation.
00:33There's still, rumor has it today, right now, trying to figure out what this song means to them.
00:39And it seems like the meaning keeps growing.
00:41I don't know.
00:41I've had people be like, well, then, you know, there was this other layer in the second verse on the third line that means.
00:46And I'm like, you know what?
00:48Do a dissertation.
00:49Take it to college.
00:50I don't care.
00:50Do what you want.
00:51I think it's just a sign that it's a really solid written song.
00:55So what does it mean to you?
00:58Today.
00:58Because I bet it changes every week.
01:01To me, my song Folded is about kind of recognizing that you guys probably should have took a pause and had a slower conversation and a deeper moment with each other that didn't require this blow up that caused the relationship to end.
01:14And so I'm kind of inviting someone to have a conversation with me that I know I maybe should have had in the first place.
01:20But instead, I reacted a certain way.
01:22And so maybe come pick up your clothes and we can talk about it.
01:25I folded them because I'm sweet.
01:28Oh, she's so nice.
01:29And I do want to talk to you.
01:30When you came on the pre-show, you had me cracking up about Bad Bunny and how he had, you're like, he's going to do it all in Spanish and you're going to listen.
01:37Now I want to know, what song do you need in the halftime show?
01:40You're like, what's your vibe?
01:41You're listening to Bad Bunny.
01:42What you going to place play on?
01:47The single from this album.
01:49Oh, Dimitri Armas Photos.
01:50Dimitri Armas Photos.
01:51I wasn't going to butcher it.
01:52I wasn't going to butcher it.
01:53And I don't speak Spanish.
01:54I wasn't going to butcher it.
01:55But the reason that I need that is because every single way that he was able to blend the classic salsa but make it a banger that, like, people who don't listen to salsa can relate to, which is the entire album, you know, like, the salsa blend.
02:09But I think for that to be the thing that crossed us over and brought a whole new audience into salsa is, like, you need your tans.
02:16Like, it surpasses, like, it bridges a gap of generations, I feel like.
02:21Love that.
02:21And I feel like you also have such a good opinion and outlook on the music industry in general.
02:25Were you looking at the Best New Artist category tonight?
02:27I want to know who you're supporting.
02:29Who you thinking about?
02:30Who?
02:30Who?
02:31Wait, is Leon in there?
02:32Yes, Leon is in there.
02:33Okay, okay, okay, okay.
02:34See, here.
02:35Here's where it gets tricky for me, right?
02:36Leon is my family member.
02:39That is my brother.
02:41And I also love Olivia Dean.
02:43And either way, it's a win to me.
02:45Like, they're the ones that I'm like, please, we need that.
02:50All right, well, I'm so happy to talk to you.
02:51Always so proud of you.
02:52Good luck tonight, okay?
02:53And such a great song.
02:55Love it, love it, love it.
02:56Congrats again.
