Transcript
00:00Hanging out with a guy that's no stranger to Billboard at all.
00:04How are you doing today, young blood?
00:05Good man, how are you?
00:06I'm good to see you.
00:07I feel like this week is obviously a crazy week.
00:09Now that you're finally at the Grammys, are you settled or are you ready to go?
00:14It's kind of weird.
00:15You're here for a week, and you're prepared, and you're partying, and you're drinking,
00:19and then the ceremony comes around.
00:20I don't even know if I'm ready.
00:22Do you know what I mean?
00:23So I'm just rolling with the punches.
00:25I feel like the rock that you've been making has obviously been connecting with people.
00:28We just had Linkin Park walk off.
00:30Rock is doing great right now.
00:31So how do you feel about it being honored here at the Grammys tonight?
00:34I think it's beautiful.
00:35I really think this year has been so important for rock music.
00:37I feel like it's got new meaning and new life breathed into it.
00:41You know, it doesn't feel like it's been stale for a couple of years,
00:45and now, I don't know, it feels cross-generational.
00:47I feel so honored in my category.
00:50You know what I mean?
00:51To be with Linkin Park and Deftones and Hayley Williams and I'm on the Sniffers.
00:55It feels cross-generational.
00:56You know what I mean?
00:57It doesn't necessarily...
00:58It's felt old for a lot of years, especially at the Grammys.
01:01So, you know what I mean?
01:02It's a bit more lively.
01:03Do you feel like all these new fans have discovered rock because of you?
01:09I feel like we always put a massive pressure on what one person is going to bring rock back.
01:16But I think what's exciting about rock is that it's spherical right now.
01:19You know, I think there's massive things going on in hardcore.
01:21There's a lot going on in punk.
01:22There's a lot going on in metal.
01:24I don't know, man.
01:25It's a group effort.
01:26A group movement.
01:27And I mean, you've obviously been blessed by a lot of idols, from Aerosmith to Ozzy and everything.
01:31Like, what's that like having that kind of signature sign off?
01:35I mean, it's such a trick because you grow up learning and being inspired by these people.
01:43And then you become friends with them.
01:44And then you become peers with them.
01:46I don't know, man.
01:47I am really still trying to pinch myself because I grew up in a guitar shop.
01:51You know, my dad had a guitar shop.
01:53So, I grew up polishing guitars, changing guitars, and looking at these guys on TVs and posters every day.
02:01And now to be in the studio with them and to know them as personal friends is...
02:05I don't know, man.
02:06It's magic, but it's only rock and roll, man.
02:09You know what I mean?
02:10Rock and roll holds that magic.
02:11It's cool.
02:12When did you buy...
02:13When did you have enough money to buy the guitar you really wanted?
02:17Wow.
02:18And what was it?
02:19It was a 1964 B25 Gibson Acoustic.
02:23He remembers.
02:24I remember it.
02:25It cost me two and a half grand in cash.
02:27Okay.
02:28And I did it when I got my record deal.
02:29It was good.
02:30It's like a little...
02:31It's a little songwriter's guitar and I still got it.
02:34I love that.
02:35Yeah, I remember it.
02:36And how many guitars do you own now?
02:38Two fucking many.
02:39I'm telling you.
02:40You got to use them on the part two of Idols because your fans are thinking that's coming,
02:43right?
02:44It's coming imminently and then I start the next album next week.
02:46There's a part two of Idols coming and then there's another album getting started.
02:50So, good time to be a Youngwoods fan.
02:52Right.
02:53Well, we love having you, man.
02:54I'm going to make you do this now.
02:55Yeah, go ahead.
02:56When I see you inside tonight, I'm going to find DeLisa.
02:58Shots.
02:59I'm telling you.
03:00I think she's still fucking hungover.
03:03Thank you so much.
