Tenby RNLI’s lifeboat crew have been praised for racing to the rescue of a sheep that had been chased off a clifftop into the rough sea by a loose dog.
The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, January 30, off the cliffs by Penally.
The crew of Tenby’s inshore lifeboat jumped into action, to get to the ewe in time to save it from drowning in the choppy waters.
Local farmer Will Evans shared his experience of the ordeal on Facebook, thanking the RNLI crew for their quick response.
“What an eventful morning - flat out lambing and get a call to say a dog has chased my sheep off the cliffs in Penally,” he said.
“Luckily the ewe that entered the water was recused before she drowned but the dog wasn’t so lucky!
“Massive thank you to Tenby lifeboat crew and teams for coming to the rescue! When will people learn to keep their dogs on a lead around livestock!”
Others commenting, also praised the RNLI crew for their response, with one remarking: “She looks a good swimmer - the ewe! Thank goodness for the lifeboat crew.”
Another person made the longstanding point about dogs being kept on leads on land where livestock grazing, stating: “The water looks so rough too. People need to learn to keep their animals on leads. So glad sheepy was able to be saved.”
