00:00The one that really stood out to me in this coaching cycle so far, Joe,
00:03and we do prediction markets edge.
00:05We have a good time.
00:06We try to track everything there.
00:07Mike McCarthy was trading the day he got hired at 11% on Cal sheet.
00:12Made a fortune.
00:13Because I said to myself all week long,
00:15there's like the opposite coach that the Pittsburgh Steelers would ever want
00:19is Mike McCarthy, an offensive guy aging at this point.
00:22We're looking for younger, hungrier, talented that can stay here for 10,
00:2615, or 20 years.
00:27When I heard that Mike McCarthy was hired as a head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
00:31I fell out of my chair.
00:33And a lot of people on social media and also Pittsburgh Steelers fans
00:35were doing the same thing.
00:37Like when you talk about outside the box hire, that was it for Pittsburgh.
00:40I'm not saying it's going to be a disaster.
00:43But when you move on from Mike Tomlin, I want young, 35, coordinator, hungry,
00:48and I got Mike McCarthy.
00:50Well, here's the thing.
00:51The last two years of both Dallas and Green Bay, he's failed.
00:55And he's regressed where his best years come in the forefront
00:59and then they go considerably lower.
01:02It's like the bell curve.
01:03So when you look at McCarthy's success, and I've said this to Cap on with Kevin.
01:08You know, I said, I don't look at it as like a throw a Band-Aid on it
01:14and they're back in the playoffs.
01:16Yes.
01:16I'm starting to believe it's a major rebuild, which to your point,
01:21you need a younger head coach.
01:22Cap said that, Donnie, they believe it's like they're just a few players away.
01:28Yes.
01:28I don't believe that, though.
01:31I don't think McCarthy's the right guy.
01:33McCarthy couldn't take Dak and Dallas to the promised land.
01:36He couldn't get back to the promised land with a healthy and a younger Aaron Rodgers.
01:41He's going to do it now with Aaron Rodgers in the back end,
01:44going up against some of the dominant teams in the AFC.
01:47I just don't see it.
01:48And who are you going to get from offensive personnel?
01:51They need a pure number one.
01:52DK Metcalf isn't the guy.
01:54They have four tight ends.
01:55That's great.
01:56But they still can't run the football consistently.
01:59Gainwell is good.
02:00He's a change of pace back.
02:01But he's certainly not.
02:03I mean, who are we looking at?
02:06Is he basically LT back there?
02:09No.
02:09So what are they doing with the head coach?
02:12What are they going to do?
02:13Like, when Tomlin steps down, like, let's just say they would have fired Mike Tomlin.
02:17They did.
02:17But he still stepped down.
02:19That's the perfect time for the organization to say, like, we don't necessarily have to reboot because we do have talent.
02:24But here's what we're going to do.
02:25We're going to hit the button that says our job is going to find a younger quarterback.
02:28It can't be Aaron Rodgers.
02:29We'll keep some of our defensive stalwarts over there because maybe we can't trade him and it makes all that much sense.
02:34Like, it's still the capabilities of being a playoff team.
02:36But you want to give the team a future.
02:38And Joe is right where he points out.
02:39You look at Mike McCarthy, he won a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers, I believe, in 2010.
02:44And at that point, let's just go from 2010 to 2017.
02:47Aaron Rodgers was the best quarterback in football and they couldn't sniff another Super Bowl championship where they found themselves, hey, what's Mike McCarthy doing late in the week?
02:54Oh, he's getting massages.
02:55Ended him getting himself fired.
02:56Then he somehow winds up after a year off in Dallas and tried to convince them that he's a more analytical coach.
03:00And you do have a great quarterback at that point with Dak Prescott, at least a regular season.
03:05Wasn't able to get over the hump.
03:06So, if Mike Tomlin was an institution in Pittsburgh who you felt that probably couldn't get you over the hump and he decided to step down because he didn't think he can get over the hump, your answer was Mike McCarthy?
03:15That's what I can't understand.
03:17These organizations love hiring people or coaches that they are familiar with.
03:23It's not so much best fit.
03:25He's a football guy.
03:27We know him.
03:28He's been around the block.
03:29Let's bring him in.
03:31And I get it that he's a Pittsburgh guy and a PA guy.
03:34He's crying in his presser, Joe.
03:36Did you see it?
03:36He's crying.
03:37He was clapping, too.
03:38He was all excited.
03:39You know, we'll see.
03:40He's not coaching and pipe, Donnie.
