00:00So tell me, do you want to go where it's covered in all the colored lights?
00:05We already know he's the greatest showman and the boy from Oz, and now he's about to be the Music Man.
00:10Hugh Jackman will take on his first Broadway musical role in 16 years,
00:14when he stars in the major 2020 revival of The Music Man.
00:18Jackman first teased the announcement Tuesday with a promotional image from the production
00:22on his Twitter feed, sparking speculation.
00:24The Music Man holds special significance to the actor as it was the first musical he was ever a part of,
00:29back in 1983 in grammar school in Sydney, Australia. He said in a statement,
00:34that was probably the moment when the magic of theater was born in me.
00:37Jackman will play Professor Harold Hill, the charismatic con man who comes to the small town of River City, Iowa,
00:42posing as a boy's marching band organizer and intends to flee what the cash he collects for musical instruments and uniforms.
00:49Producer Scott Rudin said,
00:50there is just no way to accurately describe the level of excitement I feel about the opportunity to present Hugh
00:55in what I think is the best role ever written for an actor in all of Broadway musical theater.
00:59Jackman, of course, is known for his unique ability to straddle big screen action franchises like X-Men,
01:09and old-fashioned song and dance roles on stage.
01:12The actor has signed on for a full year as the Music Man.
01:15The revival will begin preview September 9th, 2020, ahead of an October 22nd official opening.
