00:00Vice President J.D. Vance addresses photo of child whose father
00:05was arrested by ICE.
00:07Vice President J.D. Vance criticized media reports
00:10claiming ICE arrested a five-year-old in Minnesota,
00:12clarifying the child entered a vehicle after
00:15his father's detention and accusing outlets of misrepresenting the incident.
00:20I actually saw this terrible story while I was coming to Minneapolis, Vance said.
00:25We just left Toledo, Ohio this morning for an economic messaging event and I see this story.
00:30And I'm a father of a five-year-old actually, a five-year-old little boy.
00:35I said to myself, Oh my God, this is terrible.
00:38How did we arrest a five-year-old?
00:40Well, I do a little bit more follow-up research and what I find is that the
00:45five-year-old was not arrested, that his dad was an illegal alien.
00:48And then when they went to arrest his illegal alien,
00:50father, the father ran, he continued dismantling the viral headline.
00:55Are they supposed to let a five-year-old
01:00child freeze to death?
01:01Are they not supposed to arrest an illegal alien in the United States?
01:05If the argument is that you can't arrest people who have violated laws because
01:10they have children, then every single parent is going to be completely given immunity.
01:15From ever being the subject of law enforcement, that doesn't make any sense.
01:19The department
01:20of Homeland Security backed him up in a statement posted to ex-DHS
01:25said, ICE did not target a child, the child was abandoned.
01:30The agency confirmed that the father ran off during the arrest, leaving his young son behind
01:34in the driveway.
01:35ICE agents ensured the boy's safety while apprehending his father, who had
01:40illegally entered the US from Ecuador and had been released under the Biden administration.
01:45Parents are asked if they want to be removed with their children or
01:50ICE will place the children with a safe person the parent designates.
01:54This is
01:55consistent with the past administration's Immigration Enforcement
02:00case, added.
02:01Meanwhile, Columbia Heights school officials and the family's attorney
02:05claimed that agents took the boy and his father to a detention facility in Texas.
02:10And the school district superintendent tried to stoke the controversy by saying, ICE
02:15Vance removed the child from a running vehicle.
02:19Vance defended the law.
02:20Vance defended the lawful arrest, rejecting media criticism of immigration enforcement.
02:25The administration deployed nearly 1,000 additional ICE agents to Minnesota, amid
02:30rising tensions following the fatal shooting of Renee Good.
02:33His message.
02:34The law.
02:35The law matters.
02:36And political spin won't override enforcement.
