00:00Liverpool is taking another step towards
00:05greener travel with the launch of a major new shared e-scooter and e-bike scheme.
00:10Over 2,000 bolt e-scooters and 150 saw the receipt
00:15assisted e-bikes are taking over the city, reaching as far as spec and garbage.
00:20The vehicles operate around the clock, seven days a week, with features to
00:25be designed to improve safety. These include maximum speed limits, air
00:30powered photo validation to ensure proper parking and tests to prevent
00:35drunk riding. Bolt is also introducing a distance based
00:40pricing system charging per mile rather than per minute, which the company says encourage
00:45us safer, slower riding. The solar panels on the new e-bikes are expected
00:50to save up to 3.7 kilowatt hours per bike annually, reducing back
00:55battery swaps by more than six per year. Liverpool Council Cabinet Member for Transport
01:00and Connectivity Councillor Dan Barrington highlighted the benefits for
01:05computers and businesses. He said the marked parking spaces and software monitoring
01:10ensure users park responsibly while the expanded network can cut car
01:15journeys and provide a practical alternative for workers travelling across the city, including
01:20to the airport. Previous schemes, including city bike and the
01:25city boy trial, faced challenges with theft and vandalism.
