Unemployment in London is rising faster than in any other region, hitting 7.2 per cent.  There’s been a particularly sharp jump in the jobless rate among young Londoners aged between 16 to 24. Jobs have been disappearing all over the capital. Around 43,000 have been lost in office admin and broader support services as companies adopt AI, with the wider retail sector losing around 14,00. In the construction industry, more than 30,000 jobs have vanished, highlighting London’s housing crisis. So what’s to blame for these disappearing jobs? AI certainly could have a roll to play, but the Conservatives and business chiefs have blamed tax rises and increased in National Living Wage for job losses. Keir Starmer expects the country will turn a corner this year and living standards will rise.
