00:00The new day is on the horizon!
00:05Someone give that woman an award for winning an award.
00:09Amid rampant speculation about whether or not Oprah Winfrey will throw her name
00:13into the running for the 2020 presidential campaign, the mogul's closest friend,
00:17Gayle King, has joined the conversation.
00:19Speaking on her show, CBS This Morning on Tuesday, the co-host said,
00:22while Winfrey's official position hasn't changed, she isn't ruling it out just yet.
00:27I absolutely don't think that her position has changed, said King when pressed about
00:30the chatter, which was sparked by Winfrey's powerful Golden Globe speech on Sunday.
00:34I do think she's intrigued by the idea. I do think that.
00:37I also know that after years of watching the Oprah show, you always have the right
00:41to change your mind.
00:42King went on to say that she doesn't think Winfrey is actually considering it at this
00:46point, but that there are people who said they want to be her campaign manager
00:49who want to quit their jobs and campaign for her. She added of her best friend,
00:53she loves this country and would like to be of service in some way.
00:57But I don't think that she is actively considering it.
00:59For the record, that is a significant change.
01:00I don't think she's actively considering it at this time.
01:02King also clarified the headline-making response Winfrey's longtime partner,
01:06Stedman Graham, had given on Golden Globes night, which fanned the flames.
01:10He told the L.A. Times,
01:11It's up to the people. She would absolutely do it.
01:14But King said he was responding to the question,
01:16would she make a good president, not will she run?
01:19King clarified,
01:20This is far from the first time speculation has grown around Winfrey
01:33potentially running for president. Though she denied plans to run for office over the summer,
01:37her presidential-like speech at Sunday's awards show has many people dreaming
01:40about an Oprah-led country in 2020 and beyond.
01:43Not everybody is convinced, however, that Oprah would be a good presidential candidate.
01:47One example? Late night host Stephen Colbert, who asked during CBS' Late Show
01:51if we really want to elect another billionaire TV star.
01:54Granted, this one is actually a billionaire. Actually a TV star.
02:02The host went on to explain that Winfrey, also an actress, author, entrepreneur and humanitarian,
02:08inspires him but in a different manner when compared with other candidates, saying
02:12she's reasonable enough to consider the possibility that maybe being a billionaire
02:16TV star doesn't necessarily qualify you to have the launch codes.
02:20Colbert might not be fully on board, but Oprah may have the support of none other
02:24than Meryl Streep, who stopped by ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday.
02:28She said this about the big Golden Globes moment.
02:30Oprah launched her presidential campaign, I think.
02:34When asked about her thoughts on Winfrey actually running for president in 2020,
02:37the actress wasn't opposed. Somebody from the stage mentioned Tom Hanks as vice president
02:41and he seemed ready to go, she added.
02:43You could just keep it in Hollywood, you know? You could have The Rock as the, you know,
02:47Joint Chiefs of Staff.
02:50Winfrey has yet to address the speculation following the Golden Globes, aside from a slight brush-off
02:55to Bloomberg on Sunday night.
02:56Meanwhile, as the Associated Press reported, Trump suggested on Tuesday during a
03:00meeting with lawmakers that he would beat Winfrey in a race for president.
03:03Here's what he had to say in a video posted by CNN.
03:06Yeah, I'll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know her very well.
03:10Very nice. No, I like Oprah. I don't think she's going to run.
03:13What do you think about the possibility of Oprah running for president?
03:16Are you on board or unconvinced like Stephen Colbert? Let us know in the comments.
