00:00Today I'm house hunting in the Canary Islands on the stunning south west coast of Lanzarote.

00:16Today I'm going to be using all my skills to find the perfect place for Dimpy who's house hunting with her mum Diwali and we get ready to party.

00:32As I go the extra mile to over deliver. Three bedrooms! Really? I did not expect that at all.
00:40I visit a luxury villa which is right on the money.
00:43With a few like that it's kind of priceless. You can't buy that? No you can't.
00:48But at the end of the day do I find my house hunters their perfect place in the sun?
00:53I really feel that I'm getting really closer to my actual dream.
01:00Dimpy has always dreamt of her times in Lanzarote and the beaches, the nightlife and the all year round sun are calling her back.
01:08Now her two children Jameen and Natisha are grown up it's time for her to find a holiday home of her own with the guidance of her mum Diwali.
01:16Dimpy who lives in Hertfordshire and works in the travel industry has a budget of £230,000 to buy a holiday home she hopes one day will become a permanent one.
01:28So the holiday home it will be like somewhere to get away from all the stress that's in the UK and pressure at work.
01:36So really to unwind as well and that way I can come as many times as I want.
01:43She can't think of anyone better to help on the house hunt than her mum Diwali.
01:48Dimpy gets carried away very quickly and I'm here with her to ground her.
01:55Lanzarote which takes around 4 hours to fly to from the UK is the northernmost and third largest of the Canary Islands with a population of about 150,000 including around 5,000 Brits who are joined by more than 3 million holiday makers each year.
02:17Attracted by the island's more than 100 miles of stunning coastline, great year round climate and all the things Lanzarote has to offer away from the sun, sea and sand.
02:29While some Spanish territories have seen a fall in the property market in the past 12 months, here in Lanzarote the market is on the up by up to 25% in places like Puerto del Carmen.
02:40A combination of low stock and high demand means if you're selling, you're in a good position. If you're buying, you may have to dig deep.
02:49Before we get started, I'm meeting up with my house hunters on Islotti, Defermina and Arecife to find out what Dimpy's looking for in terms of property and how her mum Diwali is going to help her.

03:10So beautiful, amazing.
03:12You came here once, 20 years ago, and you've decided to get a property here. That place must have really grabbed you.
03:18Yes, it did because, you know, it's all year round sunshine.
03:22I mean, Lanzarote is just a great option, you know, four and a half hours from the UK, as you say, the all year round sun.
03:27And you've not been before, Diwali?
03:29No, it's my first time. What are your first impressions?
03:31It's fantastic. Yes, I love the place.
03:35Diwali, what's your role going to be then on this set?
03:38Yeah, I'm going to help her out and give her some ideas to see if it is suitable for Dimpy.
03:46So between us, we're going to try and find you this property in Lanzarote. Tell me what you're after.
03:51Give me your wish list.
03:52OK, so I'm looking for one, two bedrooms, but if it's the ideal property, I don't mind one.
03:58OK.
03:59But it has to be modern. A little bit of character is OK.
04:03Swimming pool is important, either a communal pool or a beach nearby.
04:08Right.
04:09And I need a car park because I want to drive around the island as well, so that's important to me.
04:15So you're going to use this as a holiday home initially?
04:17Initially I am, until my children finish university, and then they've only got a few more years left,
04:23and then I want to make it a permanent home.
04:26That's exciting, isn't it? That always gives me an extra bit of motivation on the search
04:31if I know it's somewhere that you might want to live full-time one day.
04:34What about areas? What kind of areas would you like to look in?
04:36So I like quiet, but I like lively as well, a bit of both.
04:40So I really like Puerto del Carmen, but I'm open to other areas
04:44because, you know, I'm not really familiar with the island.
04:47Ah, OK. Puerto del Carmen is great.
04:50I could also show you a little bit of Plea Blanca, another resort I really like.
04:54And since you're open, I'll show you both just a bit of the island.

05:04How much have you got to spend on this?
05:06So I've got to spend £230,000.

05:18So that's an extra £20,000 wiggle room.

05:31Dimpy seems pretty flexible in terms of where she wants her property,
05:35which will definitely help along with that maximum budget of £250,000.
05:40And it'll be great to show her and Lanzarote newbie Di Valle some of the island as well.
05:47Before we visit our first property, we're heading down the coast to the popular tourist town of Puerto del Carmen,
05:53where Dimpy came on holiday all those years ago.
05:56So, of course, Dimpy, I had to bring you back to Puerto del Carmen.
06:02I mean, does any of this look familiar to you?
06:05It does, actually.
06:06I remember the strip and I remember the bars, the restaurants.
06:09What do you think of it? You've not been here before?
06:11I'd say it's very lively.
06:14Yes, plenty of stuff, plenty of restaurants.
06:17When you think of having your holiday home here, Dimpy, is this what you kind of imagine?
06:21Yes, I do, because, like, during the day I can be, like, just enjoying it in the beach there,
06:26and then in the evenings I can come out and, you know, have my cocktail, do some karaoke.
06:31What's the number you always belt out when you do karaoke?
06:34Girls just want to have fun!

06:38I'm telling you, this is the place to come for you.
06:41In the evenings it is just teaming with people and it's just good vibes,
06:45so I'm glad we started the search here.
06:47And my first property is pretty close, it's about a five-minute walk up the road.

06:57Puerto del Carmen is a very cosmopolitan place.
07:02The population here is about 50% local and 50% from outside Spain,
07:07including a large British community.
07:11Demand for properties here is high, as are prices,
07:14so I'm very pleased to be kicking off this house hunt with a one-bedroom place
07:18in a great location which comes in quite a bit below budget.
07:24So we're about a five-minute walk from the beach
07:26and that lovely strip.
07:28What do you think of this location?
07:30I think the location is good, like the sea and the beaches nearby,
07:35but my only concern is the busy road.
07:38Ah, okay, well I don't think you'll have to be too concerned about that
07:41because the property I've chosen for you is in a bit.

07:46It's the one next to that.

07:48So I've got a one-bedroom first floor apartment with a nice outside space.
07:52You've got a nice pool inside, nice grounds, you can see it's all white, freshly painted.
07:57I think it looks nice and clean and modern as well, and a lot of like outdoor space.

08:03So yeah, I'm excited to go in actually.

12:34We're heading south to see my next property after a quick stop off at Flamingo Beach,
12:39which in my opinion is one of the best stretches of sand on the whole island.
12:44So, I wanted to bring you to one of my favourite spots on the island.
12:47This is Flamingo Beach.
12:49Beautiful golden sands, blue seas.
12:52What do you think, you two?
12:53I like the rocks, the sea.
12:55Oh my God, I want to try that.
12:57What is that paddle boat?
12:58Yes, you can do paddle boarding here.
13:01You can take a kayak out for about 43 quid.
13:04You can get a good hour, stand there, watch the world go by.
13:08I mean, is that the kind of things you like to do?
13:10Yeah, I'm always up for a challenge.

13:13This is another really nice area.
13:15You can see all those restaurants, bars, supermarket here.
13:18So, you know, you've got everything within touching distance.
13:21And my next property is about a 20-25 minute walk from here.

13:28So, again, I'm giving you that option.
13:29If you've had a couple of cocktails, you don't really need any cars home.

13:48This two-bedroom bungalow that comes with three pools and this fabulous outside space.
13:59Today I'm in the Canary Islands helping Dimpy, who works in the travel industry,
14:03find her dream holiday home on Lanzarote.
14:05And I've got the help of Mum Diwali.
14:08Diwali's helping me to keep her daughter open-minded about this apartment, which had a great location
14:14and views.
14:15But Dimpy, who has a budget of £230,000 with an additional £20,000 wiggle room, was tempted
14:21to rule it out due to its lack of a second bedroom.
14:25And I'm going to remedy that with property too, in the town of Playa Blanca in the far
14:30south of the island, which has a good mix of full-time residents and holiday homeowners.
14:36Prices are on the rise here, so to get Dimpy that extra bedroom she's after, I've had to
14:41use a fair bit of her wiggle room.

21:16It's got some lovely new bars and restaurants, as you can see here on the marina.
21:21So, I think, especially for my age as well, Playa Blanca is just a wonderful place to be.

21:59She's looking for the perfect holiday home where she can enjoy Lanzarote's year-round sun.
22:04And so far, things are going fairly well.
22:07My house hunter Dimpy, who has an ideal budget of £230,000 with an additional £20,000 if needed,
22:14was really keen on property number two, this bungalow.
22:18Though she would ideally have liked it to have a private pool.
22:21So I've found exactly that.
22:25It's in an area called Castillo del Aguila, about five minutes' drive from the centre of Playa Blanca, where we saw our last place.
22:33Like the rest of the island, demand for properties here is a lot bigger than supply, which has boosted prices recently.
22:40So to find somewhere with a pool and three bedrooms, I've had to use a fair chunk of Dimpy's wiggle room.
22:47Just wanted to go off to a good start with this one, Dimpy.

28:12About a ten minute drive inland from Puerto del Carmen where we started off this search.
28:17Being further from the coast makes it quite an affordable area.
28:21So I've managed to find Dimpy a very spacious townhouse that comes in below budget.
28:26This is a bit of a different area from some of the other properties I've shown you.
28:30I would say this is quite lived in.
28:32You know, you've got a school next door.
28:34There's football stadium, shops, bakery and things just up the road.
28:38First impressions for you, Mum, what do you think?
28:41Err, no.
28:42It's not my type.
28:43Okay.
28:44Because all I can see is just a mountain there.

28:48And all surrounded with all the buildings here.
28:51Maybe feels a bit built up for you.

30:02There's also the main bedroom along with two slightly smaller bedrooms, plus not one, but two shower rooms.
30:11So this feels a bit too homey.
30:12It doesn't feel like a holiday home.
30:13I know I want to move permanently, but I'm just not getting that feeling.

31:31I'm, like, really not feeling it, and it's not in my heart.

31:36The maintenance of it, and I don't even enjoy cleaning.

32:52We've had our ups and downs, but I've got one last chance to impress her.
32:56Dimpy, who has a maximum budget of £250,000, and Diwali have only really liked one place

33:06This bungalow on a great development, but I'm hoping my fifth and final place,
33:11another bungalow fairly close by, will give it a run for its money.
33:18But before we go there, I've come to the town of Puerto Calero
33:22to check out this stylish four-bedroom, four-bathroom villa,
33:26which is all about lightness and brightness
33:28and has been built to make the most of life in the Canadian sun.

36:43prices aren't too high here,
36:45and I'm finishing off with somewhere that comes in
36:47quite a bit below Dimpy's budget.
36:50So we are a stone's throw from Playa Blanca.

36:55The location is just right.
36:57I think the pool is really nice.

38:50But, you know, peace and quiet by the pool, it's fine.
