00:08Infinity War charges into theaters next month,
00:11but it sounds like Steve Rogers won't be hanging around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for much longer.
00:16Chris Evans has seemingly confirmed that he will hang up Captain America's shield
00:20after the still untitled fourth Avengers movie, due out in 2019.
00:24A new profile of the actor in the New York Times asserts that Evans intends to leave the Marvel franchise
00:29after planned reshoots for the fourth Avengers movie later this year. Quoting him as saying,
00:34Evans has played Captain America since 2011's Captain America The First Avenger.
00:47Now, this is far from the first time that the idea of Evans retiring as Captain America has been raised.
00:52Initial interviews from the set of next month's Avengers Infinity War featured much discussion about the possibility of many
00:58of the original Avengers cast retiring. And there was talk about the movie's promotion being one of the final times they'll spend together.
01:04However, this does appear to be the first confirmation from Evans that he is planning his departure from the franchise.
01:10In comic book lore, Steve Rogers is but one of a number of Captain Americas.
01:14And two of his comic book replacements are already present in the MCU.
01:18Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan, and Sam Wilson, the Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie.
01:25Fans have long suspected that Rogers could die as part of Infinity War or its follow-up, leading to another character picking up the mantle.
01:32So has Evans just added fuel to the fire? Evans has made Captain America one of the studio's most beloved characters.
01:38He initially had a six-picture deal, but extended it to include the fourth Avengers movie.
01:43In addition to three Captain America films and four Avengers movies, he's shot small cameos in 2013's Thor The Dark World and last year's Spider-Man Homecoming.
01:52Not to mention a post-credits tease in 2015's Ant-Man that wound up in Captain America Civil War.
01:57In other words, he's popped up in a Marvel movie every year since 2011.
