00:00Immigrants living and working in Spain without authorization will soon be able to apply for
00:05legal residency and permission to work.
00:09The country's migration minister announced the new policy on Tuesday.
00:14This process is aimed at foreign individuals who will have been in Spain for at least five
00:19months before the 31st of December 2025.
00:23Applicants for international protection who have submitted their application before the
00:2731st of December 2025 can also apply.
00:32Another essential requirement is not having a criminal record.
00:36Individuals participating in this process who meet the requirements will be able to obtain
00:41a legal residence permit in Spain with an initial validity of one year.
00:47After this period, they can transition to the statuses provided in the immigration law regulations,
00:52allowing for full and progressive integration into the system.
00:57The move bucks a trend towards increasingly harsh immigration policies seen in the US and
01:04much of Europe.

01:23and with what our country has always been.
01:26A country that has memory, a country that has been an emigrant, and today is a country of opportunities.
01:33So, with all the legitimations, I believe today is a great day for our country.
01:39The measure will affect up to 800,000 people.
01:44Many come from Africa and Latin America and work in the agricultural, tourism or service sectors,
