Could the Seahawks be the toughest test yet for Drake Maye and the Patriots offense? How do you feel Maye has played these playoffs? Can he handle the pressure? Win or lose, this is a good thing for the future
Transcript
00:00The coverage since the games were played on Championship Sunday
00:04has been relatively positive for the Patriots
00:07as you get ready to be the underdogs against the Seahawks.
00:11And the way in which we have discussed
00:15Drake May's first three games in the postseason
00:17has been found right time to make the biggest play,
00:21whether it's with his feet like it was in the championship game
00:24or with passes to Hunter Henry and the other...
00:27Booty.
00:28Booty in those two games, in the divisional and the wildcard round.
00:31This is where it will be a far more difficult grading test
00:38for that of Drake May,
00:39because you're going up against Sam Darnold,
00:41who was the third pick years before you were the third pick,
00:45and America thinks, rightfully,
00:47that you are a better player than Sam Darnold.
00:49And in order for the Patriots to win this game,
00:51I think we all believe Drake's going to have to do a little bit more
00:53than he did in those three previous playoff games.
00:56So I think this is awesome, win or lose,
00:59that you are exposing a 23-year-old Drake May
01:02to the Super Bowl build-up to the two weeks.
01:05You talked to Wiggy, you played once with the Patriots,
01:07and then you led the Panthers in 03,
01:09and how different it was for you doing it again,
01:12as opposed to the first time you go to the Super Bowl.
01:15The best part of all this, outside of the obvious fact
01:17that they're going to be close to a championship,
01:18is that Mike Vrabel, Drake May, this organization,
01:23full of young or newer guys,
01:24all is being subjected to the Super Bowl experience.
01:28Even if you lose, you have the opportunity to have somebody
01:30to fall back on and understand what this is like
01:32if you ever want to get back to the championship.
01:34But do you think America believes that Drake May,
01:37at this moment, is a better quarterback than Sam Darnold?
01:39Yes.
01:40I don't know about that.
01:41I think we do, but I think that they are still stuck
01:46on the schedule being easy,
01:49the didn't really play any great defenses
01:52until the playoffs came,
01:54and when he started playing some good defenses,
01:57started struggling a little bit.
01:59And Sam Darnold, I think, is what,
02:02Sean, back-to-back, 14-win seasons?
02:04Correct.
02:04The only other quarterback to do that
02:06with two separate teams is Tom Brady.
02:07Right.
02:08He stinks.
02:08So, you know, I think Drake May obviously
02:12will end up being a much better quarterback,
02:15but I don't know if he gets the respect.
02:17If they were both free agents today,
02:19Drake May would get, like, twice the contract.
02:21One's in the MVP race and the other one's not.
02:24So, I mean, I think nationally,
02:26people look and go,
02:27Drake May is the better quarterback.
02:29The problem with Drake May, unfortunately,
02:32is people are like, they add the schedule in there,
02:35but then people are like, in the playoffs,
02:37he just doesn't look good.
02:39So, is the pressure too much for him?
02:40And I can't wait to talk to Mike Vrabel
02:42about that very thing.
02:44And really, it's very difficult.
02:46It's nitpicking time
02:47because they end up winning these football games.
