The tour guide profession in Malaysia has been officially integrated into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, requiring guides to complete accredited courses and competency assessments before receiving a licence.

Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Jan 27) that this move enhances professionalism, certification, and marketability of tour guides.

He added that currently, 47 tourism training institutions are registered under MOTAC, and strict action is taken against unlicensed guides to protect tourist confidence and the country’s tourism image.
