Several teenagers have been hailed as heroes after diving into a flooded river to rescue two women stranded at the Tamparuli bridge in Tuaran, Sabah on Thursday (Oct 1) evening.

The boys, believed to be in their early teens, jumped into the floodwaters with an older person after noticing a car break down and nearly get swept away.

00:18a car breakdown and nearly get swept away. Passersby and villagers who spotted the danger
00:24shouted at the driver to stop and warned them not to proceed because of the strong currents.
00:34The rescuers managed to get the two women out of the car and retrieve some of their
00:39belongings. Their story was widely shared on social media, drawing praise from netizens.
00:45It is learnt that the two tourists from Johor had rented the car and had never used the
00:50road before. They were travelling from Kundasang back to Kota Kinabalu when floods hit many
00:55parts of Sabah after continuous heavy rain. Following a mobile navigation app, they were
01:00unaware of the water levels and unfamiliar with the bridge and river.
