00:00The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are just around the corner, but did you know that some of the
00:04best shows of the season were actually based on a best-selling novel? We're taking a look at the
00:09top book-to-TV adaptations of 2024. First up, Three-Body Problem. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss's
00:19highly anticipated follow-up to Game of Thrones is the novel by Liu Sishin, which is based on
00:24the remembrance of Earth's past trilogy. The result is a TV-friendly narrative from the popular
00:29sci-fi odyssey about an encounter with an alien civilization looking for a new and viable
00:34planet. Maybe we can't know what they are. Next up, Ripley. Netflix's black-and-white project
00:46starring Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning is both a remake of the 1999 film starring Matt Damon
00:51and an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's famous thriller. The story follows a conman, Tom Ripley,
00:57who accepts a tempting offer from a rich businessman to travel to Italy to find his millionaire
01:02vagabond son. You like our tongue? You're in the right place. You like our tongue? Well, you're in
01:10the right place. Next, Shogun. The FX series showcases real events in 1600s Japan and is based
01:17on the 1975 historical fiction novel from James Clavell. It was first adapted into an NBC miniseries
01:23in 1980. With an updated adaptation comes a shift from a Eurocentric perspective to one that focuses
01:29on the experience of the Japanese. Then we have lessons in chemistry. The Apple miniseries is
01:44actually based on the 2019 debut novel from Bonnie Garmus. Star and executive producer Brie Larson
01:50optioned the rights to the book about Elizabeth Zott, a chemist-turned-cooking show host,
01:54three years before it hit shelves. And the buzz hit new heights once the book reached bestseller
01:59status. We're live in five, four, three. Let's begin, shall we? And finally, we have Apples Never Fall.
02:07Apples is by Leanne Moriarty and her third novel to make its way to the screen,
02:11after Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. The story follows her trend of a complicated female
02:17character teetering the line between protagonist and antagonist. Annette Bening stars in the show
02:22playing Joy Delaney, a tennis matriarch gone missing. You are an emotional chaos sinkhole,
02:27Amy, and I'm sick of it! Here we go. I'm strapping. Nobody can break your heart like your own children.
