00:00The Supreme Court has ruled that 94 members of the Talents Association of GMA are regular employees of GMA Network.
00:07This ending an 11-year legal battle and setting a major president for media workers in the country.
00:13In a resolution made public on Saturday, January 24, the SC declared there was indeed an employer-employee relationship between the network and the workers.
00:21In a statement, Tagg said,
00:23It adds,
00:28Now there is jurisprudence to protect the next generation of media workers in the Philippines.
00:34GMA Network argued that their talents are not regular employees but independent contractors.
00:39This means they were not entitled to benefits and protections which the law guarantees for regular employees.
00:45But the SC says the respondents were not independent contractors based on the general terms attached to their talent agreement.
00:51The case between Tagg and GMA dragged on for more than a decade after GMA appealed the case both in the Court of Appeals and the High Court.
