00:01U.S. President Donald Trump warns of a major escalation in fighting with Iran if the peace
00:06process fails. Starting Wednesday, April 15, the government will pay PUV drivers and operators an
00:13additional 40 to 100 pesos per kilometer and will subsidize fuel for them. State witness and
00:18contractor Sally Santos alleges she delivered around 1.72 billion pesos to former public
00:24works engineer Bryce Hernandez for flood control projects. China fires flares at an unarmed
00:29Philippine Coast Guard plane flying over Panganiban and Zamora reefs in the West Philippine Sea.
00:34And Artemis II astronauts talk about their preparations to re-enter Earth's atmosphere in a
00:40quote, fireball.
00:49U.S. President Donald Trump warns of a major escalation in fighting if a peace deal with Iran fails.
00:55He also vows to retain military assets in the Middle East until a peace deal with Iran is reached.
01:01Trump's latest post follows the largest coordinated strike by Israel on Wednesday, April 8,
01:06that killed more than 250 people in Lebanon. The United States and Israel say Lebanon is not
01:11included in the agreement, but Iranian President Massoud Pezekshian has said a halt in hostilities
01:16in Lebanon was an essential condition of Tehran's deal with Washington. Pakistan's foreign ministry
01:22condemns the Israeli operations, which it said undermine international efforts to establish peace
01:27and stability. French President Emmanuel Macron earlier said Lebanon must be fully covered by the
01:32ceasefire. Starting Wednesday, April 15, the government will pay PUV drivers and operators
01:39an additional 40 to 100 pesos per kilometer on top of what they earn from fares. It's part of an
01:45expanded service contracting program and fuel subsidy for public utility vehicles or PUVs.
01:50The government will also subsidize their fuel at 10 pesos per liter with a maximum of 150 liters per
01:56week over a period of three months. This subsidized fuel will be available for PUVs at gas stations
02:02accredited by the Department of Energy. Passengers, meanwhile, will get a fair discount of at least
02:0620%. The program will first be rolled out in key areas of Metro Manila. It will start on Commonwealth Avenue,
02:13then expand to other major roads such as Quezon Avenue, España, Zapote, E Bonifacio, Rizal Avenue,
02:19and Marcos Highway. It will also be implemented in other parts of the country, but the government has yet to
02:24give details. The program will apply to off-peak hours. PUVs will be given GPS monitors to track their
02:30compliance. President Marcos says this is expected to benefit around 50,000 PUVs, 1,000 operators, and some
02:3615 million passengers. The move intends to cushion the blow from rising fuel prices, which have doubled since the
02:43war in the Middle East began on February 28. State witness and SIMS contractor Sally Santos
02:50confirms Wednesday, April 8, she allegedly delivered more or less 1.72 billion pesos to former Public Works
02:57District Assistant Engineer Bryce Hernandez for flood control projects. A Sandigan Bayan division is holding
03:02a series of hearings for the bail petition of former Senator Bong Revilla and former DPWH officials.
03:08A malversation case has been filed against them over a 92.8 million peso ghost flood control project
03:13in Bulacan. During the April 8 bail hearing, Santos expounds on her testimony in 2025 that projects that
03:20went to her firm were actually in-house projects of engineers such as Hernandez. She says she started
03:25lending her license to Hernandez in 2024. Santos says Hernandez allegedly secured 42 projects through
03:31SIMS amounting to around 1.8 billion pesos. From this scheme, Santos says she earned 86 million
03:37pesos for herself. She also says she lent her license to Hernandez because she trusted him and did not know
03:43these will turn out to be ghost projects.
03:47China fires flares at an unarmed Philippine Coast Guard plane flying over Panganiban and Zamora Reefs in the
03:53West Philippine Sea Thursday, April 9. The PCG's West Philippine Sea spokesperson, Rear Admiral J. Tariela,
04:00calls the incident a clear and deliberate act of bullying. He says Chinese forces fired flares directly at a
04:06Philippine Coast Guard caravan aircraft while it was conducting routine flights over the Kalayaan
04:10Island group which includes the two reefs. Tariela condemns China's actions as reckless and aggressive,
04:16saying they directly endangered the lives of Coast Guard personnel. The 2016 Arbitral Award identifies
04:21Panganiban and Zamora Reefs as low-tide elevations and thus part of the Philippines' 200 nautical mile
04:27exclusive economic zone. But China has turned them into artificial islands and built military bases on them.
04:33The incident is the latest in a growing list of China's aggressive actions against Philippine
04:38vessels and aircraft in the West Philippine Sea. At their first press conference from space,
04:45four astronauts talk about their preparations to re-enter Earth's atmosphere in a, quote,
04:49fireball. Traveling back to Earth from the far side of the moon, they will reach speeds of more
04:54than 38,000 kilometers per hour as they enter the atmosphere. It's a high-risk phase of the mission
04:59that will put Orion's heat shield to the test. Flying in their Orion capsule since launching
05:04from Florida last week, the Artemis 2 crew are due to splash down off the Southern California coast
05:09on Friday evening. That's Saturday morning in the Philippines. Asked how he's feeling about the return
05:14Artemis 2 mission pilot Victor Glover says,
05:16I've actually been thinking about entry since April 3rd, 2023 when we got assigned to this mission.
05:22NASA astronaut Christina Koch describes the mission series as a relay race. There'll be a lunar landing
05:28targeted by 2028 and construction of a moon base over the next decade.
05:32In fact, we have batons that we bought to symbolize physically that. We plan to hand them to the next
05:38crew and every single thing that we do is with them in mind. We've really just worked to make sure
05:44that they are set up for success and that's the, all of the teams.
05:50And that's a day's wrap. I'm JC Gutinga. Thank you for watching.
