Alleged negligence in the health department came to light at Satna District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh, where a technical fault in a 108 ‘Jeevandayini’ ambulance reportedly led to the death of a critically ill patient.

Ram Prasad, a heart attack victim from the Ramnagar area, was rushed to the district hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, on reaching the hospital, the rear door of the ambulance jammed and failed to open, trapping the patient and two family members inside.

As the patient’s condition worsened, the ambulance driver climbed in through the driver’s side window and tried to break the jammed lock. The process consumed crucial time needed for emergency treatment.

Ram Prasad later died, allegedly due to the delay caused by the technical malfunction. The family has alleged that timely treatment could have saved his life if the ambulance had been properly maintained.

The incident has raised serious questions over the maintenance, fitness and accountability of the district’s 108 ambulance services.
