00:00James Corden has come under fire once again, this time for seemingly stealing a joke from Ricky Gervais.
00:07The CBS late night host made a joke about Elon Musk taking over Twitter
00:10and how the self-proclaimed chief twit has often described the social media platform as a town square.
00:16When you see Elon Musk talk about Twitter, he does this thing where he goes,
00:20it's the town square, but it isn't.
00:22Because if someone puts up a poster in a town square that says guitar lessons available,
00:26you don't get people in the town going, I don't want to play the guitar.
00:29But that sign wasn't for you. It was for somebody else.
00:32You don't have to get mad about all of it.
00:34The joke was nearly identical to Gervais' 2018 Netflix special, Humanity,
00:39where the comedian broke down what he hated about irrelevant feedback from angry Twitter users.
00:44That's like going into a town square, seeing a big notice board, and there's a notice,
00:48guitar lessons, and you go, but I don't f***ing want guitar lessons.
00:54Fine. It's not for you then. Just walk away. Don't worry about it.
00:57Gervais shared a clip from Corden's show and wrote,
01:00The bit about the town square advert for guitar lessons is brilliant.
01:04Given late night shows have teams of writers, it's rather unlikely Corden wrote the joke himself,
01:09and it's highly possible that he was unaware of Gervais' joke.
01:12Gervais then deleted the tweet, explaining he started to feel sorry for Corden, and noted,
01:17I reckon one of the writers came up with it for him.
01:19I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand-up routine word for word like that.
01:24Corden later acknowledged Gervais' joke on his Twitter feed, saying,
01:28Corden was also recently criticized for his behavior at famed New York restaurant Balthazar.
01:44Last month, Corden was banned and then unbanned from the restaurant after its owner's viral
01:49allegation that the host was verbally abusive to his servers.
