00:00First of all, looking ahead to the game, obviously you had a fantastic result last week.
00:03How's the move been and what's the team you're looking like?
00:07I'm not going to tell you the team, first off.
00:10Any injuries there?
00:12No, everyone came through the game really well, actually.
00:15I can't say anything apart from the obvious, it's been a good week,
00:21I think it was a big result, a big performance and a big uplift with the feeling
00:28inside the stadium, it's getting that balance between taking the encouragement
00:37and the confidence from the game itself and the performance
00:40and keeping level-headed and our feet on the ground knowing we've got another big game coming up
00:45and one game doesn't change and make you a great team,
00:50it gives us a great foundation to build on.
00:53So, yes, there's a lot of confidence, there's a lot of good feeling within the group,
00:57but measured with that, you know, and we know what's coming and we've got to be ready for it.
01:02The club announced yesterday and Kastner himself announced that he'll be leaving the end of the season.
01:06I'm guessing he'll have a pivotal role, but it also raises questions as to some other players' futures,
01:11Harry Maguire, for example, another person's contract's running out.
01:14Have the club had any discussions with him about his future?
01:18Does he know where his future lies?
01:20I think that's just coming into that time of the season really and with contracts and obviously January is January in the window
01:30and kind of working our way through that and coming towards the end of the season in terms of contracts and decisions.
01:37And that will obviously be taken and discussions in good time really and at the right time.
01:42So, you know, I think the kind of announcement for Cassie, I think, was for clarity as much as anything.
01:50You know, it was kind of decided anyway, you know, before I arrived.
01:55So it's not just a knee-jerk kind of decision, but the type of personality, the character that he is,
02:04I think it shows with his performance last week, you know, and where he is mentally
02:09and how much it means for him to be here and to finish the season strong.
02:13I've already had that conversation with him and he's desperate to do well and finish well.
02:17It's good to see, so I've got no doubts about him at all.
02:22Michael, just on that, does that mean that you're going to be involved in these discussions?
02:30Because obviously it's a bit of a weird situation that at the moment you're only here until the end of the season
02:36and then clearly the club's got to operate beyond that.
02:39I didn't know what kind of input you had into all of these decisions on the contracts and targets and what happened.
02:46Yeah, you know, for the week or so that it's been so far, I think,
02:50looking too far down the track hasn't happened just yet.
02:54I think it's been the initial thoughts of what's happening now.
02:59I think what the important thing for me is any decision I make on my staff mate or the club mate,
03:05it's not short-term, you know, it's not just to get through to the end of the season.
03:10You know, I've got a responsibility to whatever happens next for it to be in a good place
03:15and moving forward to make the right decisions.
03:17So, you know, as time goes on, I'm sure I'll be part of it and we'll work our way through it.
03:24Just in terms of the injuries, Manchester Lake, when he was first missing,
03:30Ruben said I'd be back next week and now we're weeks, months down.
03:35Is he anywhere near?
03:37Hopefully, yeah, he had a bit of a setback initially before I arrived, I think.
03:42Only small, but maybe not so much a setback, I think it just was a little bit slower than we'd hoped.
03:48But he's certainly getting closer and, you know, hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so,
03:54without putting an exact time, he'll be backing around it and it'll be great to have him back.
03:59Michael, how are you feeling about Arsenal?
04:03Yeah, looking forward to the game, it's a big challenge, you know, they're a very good team.
04:08Again, it's pretty obvious to say that they've got so many strong points to the game and the squad.
04:15So it's a big challenge, you know, where they are for a reason,
04:19in the Champions League, where they are for a reason.
04:21So we're fully aware of that, you know, not taking that lightly at all.
04:26We feel we're in a good place and we're going there looking forward to the game.
04:30So it's where we want to be, you know, with that real positive and that energy and that enthusiasm
04:36to go there and be positive, but for sure we know that it's not going to come easy.
04:42Michael, you talked about how you're making decisions for long-term, not just for short-term.
04:47You saw Kobe maybe making his first league start at the United States Derby.
04:50I just wonder how important could he be in the long-term future of this club?
04:53Has he been working with him so far?
04:55Yeah, I've really enjoyed working with Kobe.
04:57I've known him since he was young.
05:00I think I started working with him a little bit when he was 13, 14 years old,
05:03when I was kind of going through my badges myself.
05:06So it's...
05:08Listen, I've said it before, this club needs young players coming through
05:12and being the foundation for understanding what it means,
05:18not just for the players or the squad but for the club and for the supporters.
05:22I think it's something that we need to grasp and we need to keep building on.
05:26Kobe's a prime example to come through so quickly and have the rapid rise
05:32and to play in some unbelievably big games and impact those big games at such a young age.
05:38shows an awful lot of quality in terms of the character to be able to handle it.
05:45I think part of a career is a few ups and downs and sometimes it goes in different trajectories.
05:52But I think we've seen last week what Kobe can bring.
05:55It was great, he's quite straight-faced and he doesn't give you an awful lot
05:59but you could see the way he played and he expressed himself, he was enjoying himself.
06:03To see him like that was great.
06:05Hi Michael, when you were playing against Arsenal as a player,
06:09you had lots of battles when the clubs were both going for the title.
06:13Obviously Arsenal have pulled away the last two or three years
06:16to actually be up there challenging for the title.
06:19Can you look at Arsenal and some things that they've done as an example
06:23of how to get out of that rut and get up there challenging it again?
06:28I think we've got our ideas on what needs to be done and how we need to get there.
06:31I think credit to Arsenal, they're in a really strong place at the moment
06:34and they've built the squad and the group and Mikel takes a lot of credit for that.
06:39He's done a fantastic job and I think we've got our own ideas as well
06:44of what we need to do and what it's going to take to get there.
06:48That's what we'll keep working towards.
06:52Karl and then Tyrone.
06:55Hello, Mr Carrick.
06:56I'd like to ask about your use of Brian and Bruno in the derby,
07:00played as a centre-forward.
07:01How does his game, the centre-forward,
07:03contrast to Benjamin Sexto and Joshua Sexto?
07:06Yeah, it's just variety in terms of the strengths in some ways.
07:10I think Brian gave him a bit of a free role in many ways in a partnership with Bruno last week
07:16to drift and to fill different spaces.
07:20I think Ben's very good at playing on the last line and runs him behind.
07:25I think we've seen it over recent weeks and he's done great to get his goals,
07:29so he's in a good place.
07:32Josh can do a little bit of both and plays in drifts and plays in the hole
07:37and plays in the feet and links and is very good at bringing other people into play.
07:41Just different styles.
07:43I think certain games will suit different styles.
07:46It's great to have that flexibility for sure.
07:49Matthias has come on through the middle and made a big difference for us
07:52in terms of carrying the game into the later stages and creating a second goal.
07:58We've got good options through there and we just felt that last week
08:03that was the way to go and obviously thankfully it paid off for us.
08:08Just to ask about Diogo.
08:10He's a player who's had a difficult season.
08:13There was a bit of frustration with him early on in the game.
08:15Last week as well, it seems that fans have criticised him a bit this time
08:19and not fully taken by him.
08:21How do you think he's having a season
08:23and do you think settling into a role at right-back now
08:26might help him after being moved around a lot this season?
08:29I thought he played ever so well last week.
08:31I have to say there was obviously the incident in the yellow card
08:34and that was probably after ten minutes or so.
08:36To go one-on-one with the winger for the rest of the game
08:40and to manage that and to defend as well as he did,
08:44it was very impressive.
08:46I was delighted with him last week.
08:48I think it's pretty obvious that there's been a few ups and downs with performance,
08:54not individually but collectively,
08:56so it's not easy to get your rhythm and find your top form individually.
09:01But I think Diogo, from what I've seen here, I've known him for a while and seen him this week,
09:06he's really focused, he's desperate to do well.
09:08He loves playing for the club, you can see that.
09:11And as I said, he played fantastically well last week, so a lot for him to build on.
09:15Just asking quickly about Ben as well.
09:17You put your arm round him at the end of last week, obviously he didn't get on.
09:19It felt like you inherited him at a good time in his United career
09:22after what Darren had done with him.
09:24How do you now go about managing him when he's not played for two weeks
09:26and might have risked losing that momentum?
09:29What have you made of him since you got him on the training ground?
09:32I don't think it's losing momentum.
09:34I think, as I said, it was a team for last week to go into the game in a certain way.
09:41I think he's in a good place, Ben.
09:43He's trained really well, obviously we're working with him
09:45and keep trying to improve him as much as possible.
09:48I've been really impressed, to be honest, the way he's trained,
09:50and he's finishing and the way he's gone about it.
09:55I don't see it as anything else other than pushing on
10:01and using what he's just done over the last month or so
10:04as a stepping stone to be here and successful for a long time.
