00:00Obviously since Saturday, he's seen he's lost his job.
00:03I just wonder as a young English coach how you view management at the moment.
00:08I was working it out, the time that you were at Middlesbrough,
00:12there's 20 managers currently in work who have been in a job longer than you were at Middlesbrough before.
00:18And there's been 20 managerial appointments since you've been appointed here.
00:23I just wonder how you go about the job.
00:25You're going to do a bit of maths there, aren't you?
00:33How do you do that job?
00:36Because you don't get time to build anything in the way that you used to do.
00:42No, there's obviously two sides.
00:44I think there's definitely instant results in the next game being as important as ever.
00:51But there's definitely the responsibility and certainly our thinking as a coach and staff and as a club of what
00:57the future looks like
00:58and trying to make that better in the bigger picture.
01:04You can only be positive and look to what's achievable.
01:08That's how I am.
01:09I think there's all sorts of negatives or setbacks or what-might or what-ifs in the world anyway.
01:16I think I like to live my life in a positive way and what can be achieved every day, to
01:21be honest with you.
01:21So ultimately, in the end, it's some sort of success for us until now, the end of the season and
01:27then see what happens after that.
01:28But I don't think about what could go wrong.
01:32We get balanced, obviously, because we've got to make decisions on that.
01:35But I don't live my life like that.
01:36It's more of a case of what can be achieved.
01:39I think that's a much nicer way and positive way to look at it.
01:42Does it not affect your thinking, though, when you know that in two months' time, if results don't go well,
01:48not you specifically, but a manager can be at the job just over a very short space of time?
01:56Not massively.
01:57It doesn't day-to-day my thinking of how we work with the players or how we set teams up,
02:03how I approach it, my mentality to work in it and the role I'm in.
02:07It genuinely doesn't.
02:09I think it's the world we live in in some ways, but I really don't think like that.
02:16I just keep thinking about what we can achieve, what success looks like for me personally in some ways,
02:22but more about the group, the staff, the players and the club.
02:26I think that's the most important thing.
02:30It's such a big difference, half full, half empty.
02:32What do you focus on?
02:33Some people naturally focus on different things.
02:35For me, it's all about what we can achieve and how we're going to get there.
