00:03You were here a year ago with a different club.
00:05What have you done as a manager, as a football coach, to grow in that time?
00:09Where do you think you have grown the most as a manager as you are in this new role with
00:13Liverpool?
00:14I want to think.
00:15I'm much better than I was one year before.
00:18I think I have one more year of experience in the Premier League.
00:22It was, obviously, for me personally, an incredible season per season.
00:26But now it's a different challenge.
00:28The expectations are going to be higher, the level of the players is higher.
00:33And it's a matter of, it's a challenge also for me as a coach, to adapt tactically to new scenarios.
00:43And now the first steps, the first pre-season tour, I think it's going well.
00:50I'm quite happy, but it's true that we need to still receive a lot of the senior players,
00:55integrate them, and it has been quite progressive.
01:02But I think we are in a good direction.
01:06Alex Calabrese, MRN7.
01:08Coach, welcome back to Chicago.
01:09Good to see you again.
01:10You've got Flo Wierz back with you now.
01:13What do you think you can do to unlock him this season,
01:15and can the fans expect to see him at the Soldier Field?
01:19Obviously, like all the players, honestly, but with Flo, especially, I think we need a very good version of Florian.
01:27We know what he can give us.
01:29I think he's also suited to our game model.
01:32Well, I see him more probably in that position behind the striker.
01:39We know that he has played with Germany, he has played more on the left sometimes,
01:43but I think we're going to start working with him in that position behind the striker.
01:49And he's quite complete as a player, no?
01:54I think we are going to try to add more things to what he already has that is very good.
02:01And I've seen him first days of training in a good place mentally,
02:06and I hope he starts well and strong.
02:11Daniel Ramírez, of Barrelia, Chicago.
02:15Well, welcome to Chicago again.
02:18What do you want to give us new in the city,
02:25since we have the end of the pre-temporary season?
02:29For me it's a pleasure to come back to Chicago.
02:31When they told me that the pre-temporary season was with Liverpool again,
02:36it was a good news.
02:38It's a good news, because I know the city,
02:40we had a very good experience last year with the Bournemouth.
02:43I think, apart from the conditions to train and play,
02:49the fact that we can go to the city,
02:51to go to the staff,
02:53who spend a lot of hours here,
02:55that they can go to a day and eat a dinner,
02:57I think it's a very nice place.
03:01And now, at the level of sports,
03:03we also have to end up with the last game in Chicago,
03:05in the Soldier Field.
03:07In the best way,
03:09and to be able to win the last game.
03:12Adam from BBC, what's the latest on Joe Gomez?
03:15Any update you can share?
03:17Yeah, Joe has a muscle injury.
03:19I think it was quite clear since he complained straight away,
03:22so it will depend how he evolves,
03:24but he will be some weeks off, yes.
03:26And just off the back of that, given you've been missing Joe for at least a few weeks,
03:30is there any update on your priorities in the transfer market that you can share,
03:34any positions, anything you're after?
03:35No, right now, you've seen these games, we are pretty thin in the centre-back position,
03:42we still don't have Virgil.
03:45The only centre-backs we have right now are more than Ife,
03:50that are 18-year-old,
03:52just arrived to the club and they are doing incredibly well.
03:56Yesterday, Luke Chambers played there, that is not a centre-back,
03:59but he played really, really well.
04:02And we will have to, until we recover some bodies,
04:05I think Jeremy is ready to go.
04:09We will recover Virgil,
04:10but I'm happy that playing against Sunderland,
04:14against some good teams with 18-year-old centre-backs,
04:18the team has showed composure, solidity at the back and speaks very well about them.
04:25Andoni, apologies if you answered this in your Spanish answer,
04:28but just how much have you enjoyed being in Chicago
04:31and how beneficial have you found the tour overall in America?
04:36I was really happy when I found out we were coming again to Chicago,
04:40I was here past season, past pre-season with Bournemouth,
04:43we spent two weeks.
04:45I think it's a nice city, the proper facilities,
04:50but especially when you have some time, you can go to the city, have a coffee,
04:54maybe once, go for dinner somewhere.
04:58People are also very respectful.
05:00I understand now the repercussion of Liverpool is not the same as when it came past season,
05:05but still it's been really nice, really, really nice,
05:08and I hope we can finish it in a proper way also against Leeds.
05:13We will not have to travel also for the last game because the other day the travel was messy
05:19with the storm and this, and I think we can finish these two weeks properly, yes.
05:25Good afternoon, Mr. Teresa Limón, with TUDN 1220 AM.
05:30For the game of this Sunday, what aspects specific footballs do you expect to have reflected on the game,
05:39since they are working in pre-season?
05:42Yes, well, against Leeds, at the end Leeds is a very physical team,
05:45it's a very physical team that has a lot of pressure, has a lot of pressure,
05:50and I think for the pre-season it's a good test because it's going to exigir,
05:54at the level of physical, it's going to give a lot of pressure,
05:56so I think for the players it's a game that will come very well.
06:00And then, we will continue, inculcando a little bit,
06:03I think ayer the pressure worked much better than the day of the Sunderland.
06:08In moments with the ball, I think we've had good moments, but we need more continuity.
06:12And, well, against a good level, like Leeds, let's see where we are.
06:20Anthony, you played Rio off the right yesterday,
06:23which I think was the first time he's played there since he's been a senior player at the club.
06:27I'm just wondering what was your thinking behind that
06:29and is it something that could be a long-term position for him?
06:33Two aspects, first, our wingers, I'm normally used to try to encourage them
06:41to have the ability to play both sides. I know some of them are more comfortable one side,
06:46but we normally, our team is not normally symmetric,
06:51so sometimes one of the wingers has to do more defensive work,
06:54sometimes one has to play higher, has to play more inside, more outside,
06:59so if you can give me the option to put you both sides,
07:06it's going to be selfishly even easier for you to get minutes.
07:11So also now in precision I have to see where they are more comfortable,
07:15but in my previous clubs most of the wingers have played both sides,
07:20and then even during games we've changed a lot of times the sides of the wingers,
07:26and I would like now if we can have this versatility, for me it's a big help.
07:31So obviously you've said a couple of times that the club are looking to bring in a winger,
07:36is that something that they have to sort of specialise in, the ability to play on both sides?
07:41Yes, I think it's a great skill to have, because at the end you become less predictable,
07:50I think, I know, most of them have one preferred side,
07:55but maybe you are going to play there 70% of your games,
07:57but maybe we need you somewhere on the other side for some games,
08:04because we want to exploit one concrete matchup,
08:07or because we see there can be a weakness on the other side,
08:11something that tactically we can see if you have the chance to play both sides,
08:15I think it becomes better for you to give half more minutes,
08:19and also better for us, because we can use better the squad, I think.
08:24You've got Alexander Izak with you now, how important is he going to be,
08:28and are you going to have to go maybe slightly careful on him,
08:31given how long he was injured for last season?
08:35Yeah, Alex, I think he has come in a good place,
08:39I think he was good in the World Cup, I saw him comfortable,
08:44first training here, I think I've seen a good version of Alex,
08:49still it's very early, because we just have started training,
08:52but I hope he can have some minutes against Leeds,
08:55and build properly a proper precision,
08:58it's not going to be very long, but he will have three,
09:02four weeks of quality training, I hope,
09:05and we can put him in a good place,
09:07because he's going to be a massive for us this season, yes.
09:11Hi Andoni, is Joe a concern when you say weeks,
09:15is it going to be many weeks, are we talking months,
09:17so just show weeks?
09:18No, it's a muscle injury, muscle injury is difficult to say one day,
09:23but normally, you know, I always put myself in one month,
09:29if it goes very good, the injury is a little bit less,
09:33if it goes a little bit more, but it's a muscle injury,
09:36it's not massive, it's a normal muscle injury,
09:40and I think it's going to be impossible to have him for the start of the season,
09:45because we are not so far, but it shouldn't be a lot more.
09:49And just on that, obviously you've had a difficult summer like every Premier League manager,
09:53because of the World Cup, you said last time we spoke to you,
09:56there were some players you've not even sort of met properly yet,
09:59and I just wondered, with the deadline as well, with the transfer deadline running until the start of September,
10:04is it going to be some weeks before we see the team you want,
10:08the squad you want and the team playing the way you want?
10:11Probably, probably, but not because I am going to meet the players late,
10:14or we are going to sign the players late, even having all the team ready for the season,
10:18when there is a change of manager, these things take some time,
10:23I would like to say, on the first day we are going to be perfect,
10:26everyone is going to be in place, but probably it's not going to be like this,
10:28and we will have to do the application as quickly as possible.
10:34I particularly hate this month of August, because you start the competition,
10:38you still don't know if some of the players are going to leave, who is going to come,
10:44there is a lot of uncertainty, it's difficult to build the proper team with a lot of question marks,
10:50but it is what it is, it's the same for all the teams, it's the same every season,
10:53and I particularly enjoy when it's first of September, then it is who we are and we build from here,
11:00but we have to deal with this month of August that I think a lot of the coaches, if not
11:05all, we don't like it.
11:07Last question in the back please.
11:09Yeah, Dan Williams, that's performed, yeah, just in terms, and to follow on from there,
11:12just in terms of obviously the Newcastle game is not too far away,
11:16if you had to go in with this set of players, would you be satisfied with that,
11:20and is there a player that's been on this tour that surprised you,
11:23that maybe makes you rethink the thought of going back into the transfer market perhaps?
11:29Yeah, a lot of players have surprised me, especially the young players that I didn't know before,
11:34because the senior players, you've played against them, you more or less know them,
11:39but a lot of the young players, they have given a very high level, very, very high level in these
11:45friendly games,
11:47they still have room to grow, that is always very good, and we will recover players, you know,
11:54it's not like if we played with the same eleven we played yesterday, it wouldn't be a good thing for
11:58us,
11:59against Newcastle definitely we are going to recover players, the ones that also are important,
12:04because they've been in the World Cup, they've been the ones like taking more responsibility in the previous seasons,
12:10and now it's a challenge, we've done a first job with this group of players that have been here the
12:17first two weeks,
12:18and now we have to integrate the new ones slowly, slowly, but we have the advantage that we have some
12:22of the players
12:23who know more or less where we are going and also can help in this process.
