Badenoch questions delays of local elections

Kemi Badenoch questions why elections for 29 local councils in England have been postponed from May this year to 2027. The Conservative leader accuses Labour of using "bullying tactics" to convince councils to delay votes; meanwhile, the government has said it's down to local government reorganisation. Three of the councils with postponements are Conservative-led -- delays which Badenoch has said is down to finance.  Report by Keechl. 00:00Just for clarity, you think they should not be postponed?

00:03We've already had a postponement.

00:05A one-year postponement for local government reorganisation, understandable.

00:10But two years, more than two years, that's just too long.

00:13Why is it taking so long for Labour to get organised?

00:16And what I've seen is them use quite a lot of bullying tactics to get councils to say they don't want local elections.

00:21I think that they should go ahead. That is Conservative Party policy.

00:24I know that there are two or three outlier councils who are doing something different,

00:29but that is not our party policy.
