00:00Wakefield could get a new purpose-built bus depot as plans move forward to improve local
00:06public transport. West Yorkshire Combined Authority is expected to submit a planning
00:11application after a consultation on redeveloping the former Council Transport Depot at Newton Bar.
00:18Officials say this site would support a new zero emission bus fleet, improve reliability
00:23and cut unnecessary mileage. Wakefield has lacked a main depot since Arriva closed its
00:28Barnsley Road base in September following structural safety concerns. If approved,
00:34buildings would be demolished and replaced with facilities for up to 125 buses,
00:40with measures set to limit noise for residents.
