00:00Maidin Managing Director Amir Ali Maidin today said it was unfair to single out the hypermarket chain as a business that had benefited from the Sumangan Asas Rahma program, responding to recent remarks by an MP in Parliament.
00:15Kota Melaka MP Ku Pui Tiong had highlighted the hypermarket chain saying Malaysians who receive RM100 may end up spending more than RM100 and will come to shop at Maidin.
00:26He added that the owner of Maidin was very happy, quipping that business had been so good that Amir had been making TikTok videos, dancing here and there.
00:36Amir said Ku's remarks painted an unduly negative picture of the company.
00:41He said in a video posted on X that he often remarked that the government needed to help small traders, adding that if aid was not given to Maidin, giving aid to small traders is also fine.
00:53Amir said the government's main objective with the SARA program was likely to encourage as many retailers as possible to join the system.
