00:00Good evening. We begin tonight in Europe, where world leaders are voicing sharp criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump's foreign policy
00:09as tensions rise over Greenland during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
00:15French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a thinly veiled rebuke in his address,
00:20warning against what he called a world where international law is trampled underfoot.
00:25Without naming President Trump directly, Macron criticized what he described as
00:31the rule of the strongest and growing imperial ambitions in global politics.
00:37The comments come as President Trump has once again raised the prospect of acquiring Greenland.
00:43While he has agreed to a meeting later this week to discuss the Arctic Island,
00:47the remarks have drawn strong reactions from European leaders.
00:51In a series of social media posts, President Trump also shared private messages from world leaders,
00:58including a message from President Macron that read, quote,
01:02I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland, unquote.
01:06Greenland's prime minister called for respect for the international order,
01:11while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed firm support for Greenland and Denmark,
01:17stating that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both are non-negotiable.
01:23Von der Leyen also warned that Europe must move toward what she described as a new form of European independence
01:30in response to growing geopolitical shocks,
01:33stressing the importance of strengthening trade partnerships and international alliances.
01:39Meanwhile, Russia weighed in on the dispute.
01:42Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the disagreement over Greenland threatens NATO's unity,
01:48warning it could impact the alliance's continued existence as a unified bloc.
01:53Elsewhere in Davos, the Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy,
02:00Kirill Dmitriev, plans to meet with U.S. representatives on the sidelines of the forum
02:05to discuss the war in Ukraine.
02:07Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is prepared to meet President Trump at the forum,
02:13but only if firm commitments are made on prosperity and security packages for Ukraine.
02:20China's Vice Premier Ha Li Feng also addressed the forum,
02:24warning that rising tariffs and ongoing trade wars have delivered what he called
02:29serious shocks to the global economy.
02:31Back in Washington, President Trump is expected to join today's White House press briefing
02:37alongside Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt.
02:41The briefing marks the one-year anniversary of the President's inauguration.
02:45Leavitt has teased the appearance of what she called a very special guest at the podium.
02:51Finally, the United Nations' top humanitarian official, Tom Fletcher,
02:55pushed back against concerns that President Trump's proposed Board of Peace could replace the U.N.
03:01Fletcher emphasized that the United Nations remains essential,
03:06especially in what he described as a challenging year ahead for global stability.
03:11He urged the proposed Board of Peace to focus heavily on Gaza and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process,
03:18saying all sides share the goal of lasting peace, security, and opportunity in the region.
03:24Those are the latest developments from Davos and around the world.
03:29We will continue to bring you updates as this story unfolds.
