A Serbian political economy scholar has criticized comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, warning that threats to “obtain” the territory—potentially by force—undermine international law and global stability.

Dragana Mitrovic of the University of Belgrade said such rhetoric challenges the UN Charter and established norms governing relations between states. She also criticized Trump’s suggestion of using tariffs against countries that oppose the plan, calling it a coercive and counterproductive tactic. According to Mitrovic, these actions risk damaging U.S. credibility and weakening respect for international cooperation.
