Estonia’s Foreign Minister has called on China to align with the United States and European nations in exerting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. The appeal comes amid escalating tensions in Eastern Europe and ongoing global concern over Russia’s military and geopolitical actions.

00:38as Trump said as well that this pressure is very important that China should join

00:44and I think that China can do a lot if joining the pressure to Russia to finish the war.

00:51Actually gaining our interests but also not China interests and globally it will be a disaster.

00:56And also we need to explain every time and more and more to China as well

01:01that this is not about Russian aggression against Ukraine only.

01:06This is a matter of our existential interests

01:09and if we would like to have good relations with China and China with us

01:13so China should understand that Russia is not a threat to Ukraine only

01:17but it is an existential matter about defence and security policy to Estonia but Europe as a whole.

01:24Do you have any more sort of information on the general licences deal or is that not quite clear?

01:30China was in the position as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council

01:36that it is like the spillover of the Ukraine crisis.

01:41So it is not a spillover.

01:42It is well planned, it is well organised test of the NATO unity.

01:47It is a very clear violation of the principles I mentioned before as well over airspace.

01:53My messages were very clear but our conversation was very open and I am very grateful for that.

01:58We must have known the monopoly in the hand of one country.

02:03It can be misused as we saw.

02:05These intentions are not good for trade for everybody as well for China in the future.

02:11So that is why European Commission has been on very strong position as well

02:15that these restrictions are not actually gaining our interests but also not China interests

02:22and globally it will be a disaster.

02:24But for Europe and for the world as well these questions are existential because

02:29But of course we understand as well that if there are negotiations with the US about tariffs and other measures

02:36so China showed very clearly that they have in some topics as well the leverage.

02:43But with the European Union I think that we should have these negotiations

02:47and also this is a China responsibility to not misuse this leverage.
