00:00it's a people station v103 the atl's number one for hip-hop r&b and throwbacks i'm danny b
00:05and we are in the studio with a very special guest he done posted on his page he said he back
00:13ti's in the building how you doing i'm cool how you doing i'm doing good new look well new look
00:20old look new look old look i guess so i guess you got the glasses the hat to the side the
00:26hair gone what we got going on well you know i said i've been promoting the release of my final
00:33album uh for quite some time and uh the plan was always that when we actually are serious about
00:41putting music at and re-entering the market that um especially this being the final project to give
00:50people the tip that they that they recognize and and the one that they rather see so that was always
00:56the plan i got you i got you i was thinking it was something symbolic because you know especially
01:00with locks when people cut they locks it's like oh this means something nah it didn't just mean i was
01:06you know it meant a time it meant a time it's time it's time to put some music back out there
01:12and it's time to represent the city the way we've always represented the city can we talk about your
01:17rollout because the rollout's been crazy like you you wiped the social media you popped up without the
01:23locks and then last night you was hanging out with great street at the bank like popped up out there
01:28yeah um the little snippet for what i'm assuming is probably the music video for the new single um
01:34let them know right pharrell on that yeah like it's been it's been kind of nuts like what we trying to
01:40do in this new era of tip i'm a final era of tips i'm just doing i'm just doing what i'm used to doing
01:47you know um uh raising the bar and and representing the city in high fashion and that's you know that's
01:56my only intention was it purposeful because to me listening to the song it sounds a lot like i'm serious
02:05and you know it's the 25th anniversary of i'm serious it was giving trap music rubber band man
02:11to me but then it was giving like the gloss and coolness of like king okay so funny you should say
02:17that was it i like the um the organs in that it sounded very much like rubber band man to me i will
02:24say thank you but that is all for real you know what i'm saying uh all things sonically uh presented
02:30would be for real but you know it's funny you should say it sound like a mixture between i'm
02:35serious and king because and trap music and trap music well i'm serious is definitely uh it's it's
02:44at its 25th anniversary and king is at its 20th anniversary so we definitely wanted to make sure
02:51that you know we had a hybrid of those two projects we definitely wanted to make sure that we represented
02:58both of those at the same time so thank you that's how i feel it really does it feel you know i've
03:05seen the chatter on social media too and a lot of people the chatter like that have you seen the chat
03:11other chattering other chattering yeah it's indubitably nah man i never i never knew people cared so much
03:22i never i had no idea what i had no idea i just didn't know people care somewhere i can't think
03:27i'd be stuck in my own world you know what i'm saying so uh you know i feel like i'm always me you
03:36know i'm gonna show up as myself all the time regardless of you know what my wardrobe bills you
03:42know what i have you know shades no shades hat no hat hair no hair i'm gonna show up as me so i feel like
03:50me all the time you feel me i just didn't know what you know assert i had no idea what it meant to
03:57others but you know i'm saying it's humbling it's humbling and i'm excited because they excited
04:04a lot of people well i saw like under the video a lot of people were saying this is what music needs
04:10right now like people needed tip to come back people needed this sound to come back so how does that make
04:16you feel as far as like the legacy because trap music started with you dare i say right here on v103
04:22that's right street show that's right music started with you yeah hey listen bro i i i received it
04:30i'm humbled by it um and i accept the responsibility you did so that's what it feel like it feel like
04:38uh accepting the responsibility of representing the town uh in a high fashion you know what i'm saying
04:46and that's what i that's what i that's what i signed up to do and that's what i'm going to do until i'm
04:51done i love it so why kill the king well well to be honest with you kill the king is um
04:59um it is a metaphor for killing the ego you feel me uh long long before i was a nationwide name you
05:11know what i'm saying i i i i made a decision uh to to claim king of the south and i did uh but i've seen
05:22over time that a lot of my infractions and disagreements and back and forth with people
05:29was because you know of because of how they felt about that you know what i mean and uh and as i
05:37evolve and elevate my consciousness you know i'm saying as i get to you know grow learn and develop
05:44as a human being i i found that there's nothing more important than peace of mind you feel me and
05:52in in in seeking said peace of mind i found that the less ego you hold on to the more peace you can
06:03hold on to you feel me so killing the king you really you know i'm saying that means that that
06:10this thing that everybody sees not because i never said i was the only king i was just the first to let
06:16people know it's okay to be king you know what i'm saying you don't have to place a ceiling over
06:21yourself and call yourself you know just a prince or just a you know whatever it is it's okay to
06:29consider you should think high enough highly enough of yourself and you should carry that with you so
06:36you carry yourself the way that you think of yourself you know what i mean uh but i understand
06:42and you know what i'm saying some people you know take the oh we think he is calling himself the king
06:46the king and and the more and the more i i seek peace because i you know what i look i look at my
06:54predecessors i look at the people who uh blazed the trail for me like outcasts you know what i'm saying
07:03i look at andre 3000 man like i look at how effortlessly he had he just walked the earth
07:11you know what i'm saying he walked like a monk you know what i'm saying him and he flew e.j moved
07:18through towns and countries everybody love him and receive him and and it ain't never no kind of hate
07:26ain't never no kind of envy or nothing it's just like man that's drake and that's the type of peace i
07:33hope to gain and earn one day and i feel like you know i'm saying and or in quest of that it might be
07:43time to kill the king i love that because you know that type of rhetoric we've seen so much in your
07:50music over the um that kind of back and forth that tussle that tip versus and there will be more
07:56there will be more you know what i'm saying this kill the king project is gonna be it's gonna be
08:02heavy-handed you know what i'm saying they go because it's the last of them so i'm gonna get it
08:08all that you feel me i'm gonna get it all out i'm gonna lay it all out there um and the back and
08:16forth you talk about between ti and tip um it's conflict it's an internal conflict and that internal
08:25conflict is a dichotomy between who i who i who i was before i became famous and who i learned that i
08:36had to be to maintain fame you know i mean and there's been an internal uh descriptors you know and i think
08:48it's time to kind of settle that you know and this is the way we'll do it i love that
08:55all right well the new single let them know is produced by pharrell can we play a little bit of
09:00it right now you can play our look you can play our look you know go ahead introduce your record

09:45hey man i'm i'm i'm just uh i'm i'm humbled and blessed and appreciative that i have a relationship with you know uh one of the
10:00the the the the the most premier producers in the game right now uh and one of the most iconic figures
10:08in our culture and so when i call and you know he's just as excited to work as i am and he invites me
10:17you know to come and and create art because that what we doing you know i mean we're we're we're curating
10:25art uh and when we do that because we got other songs too um but this the song we did like we did
10:35this song we were like okay we done yeah you know what i'm saying but we got other songs too that dope
10:41that you will hear um yeah that you will hear uh but i feel like in spending time around each other
10:49him hearing you know where i'm at in my mind him hearing what i want uh my my statement to be with
10:58this project this the the the second second or third day that i came to work as soon as i got there
11:08he was like hey listen to this and i was like yeah this is it okay you know and then you know i'm saying
11:15he gave me some insight as to some things he thought he should hear you know i'm saying some
11:20things he's some reminders he thought some some bread crumbs if you will that he thought should be
11:26put he thought should be laid out there um and um and then we just went and drove with that too and
11:35that way that's him saying overly that's you know that's young drug yeah could draw with that too and we
11:41was all jay we were vibing bro and it was it was really it was a jam session speaking of draw like
11:48with kill the king and this being your final album like what going on with psc like we see
11:53the album still can get what that's still coming that probably you gonna probably hear that before
11:58you hear kill the king uh gangster grill psc still in the streets um that's coming and i'm proud of
12:06that too i'm proud of that because you know i'm saying the the the work alongside the guys man is
12:12always an honor and because you know we have such a relationship it's it's it supersedes business
12:23it supersedes entertainment it is bigger than this industry you know um big country man he used to come
12:31pick me up when i needed a ride to my probation officer you know i'm saying back you know when
12:38before i could get myself around you know i'm saying i used to i used to borrow matt boney clothes
12:44to wear you know what i'm saying when i ain't want to go to school because i ain't had the right
12:48clothes i used to go borrow matt boney clothes you know i'm saying me and dro we met in a time where you
12:54know when i got kicked out my mama house for messing up her section eight for selling dope in the
13:02apartments and we got into a little shootout or whatever out there you know dro was right there
13:08you know i'm saying i went to him on my house you know him i'm gonna say no don't y'all bring that in
13:12here you know what i'm saying so like we just have such a relationship bro that you know to stand
13:20alongside them and introduce music to the rest of the world for our relationship to mean something
13:27to everybody else that's important you know what i mean that's important and is and i'm proud to
13:33introduce and i'm proud you know to to still have these relationships maintained i love that and i love
13:41that again we've it's like we've all kind of grown up with you you know what i'm saying like thank you
13:46we've we've seen you in that part of your life we've seen you um rap about that stuff we've seen
13:52you you know as a father as a husband we've seen you you know as the the player boy that's like you
13:58know glossy and all that we've seen that era i'm still a player now you know what i'm saying i'm still
14:03a player i'm a die player you feel my wife wouldn't want me if i wouldn't you know what i'm saying i ain't
14:10lying i love it so what is like a lesson because you've been through so much so what's the
14:16lesson that your kids actually taught you that no og and no mentor could have ever taught you um
14:26man i don't i think man my my the lessons that my kids teach me is is how much the world is changing
14:35how much things are not the same you know what i'm saying how things that used to matter to us don't
14:43really matter that much anymore uh one thing is uh domani uh you know domani is uh studying
14:54the algorithm right whatever that is he's studying the algorithm and he's uh he's he's showing me
15:03you know how man you don't really have to man you gotta do all that production and stuff man people just
15:11want to see what you have to say what you're doing right then and there man they don't they don't
15:18need it to be perfect you know just pull the phone out and do it if the camera shake a little bit
15:23that's good they know it's real and you know they you know they showing me that um and because me i'm
15:31a perfectionist if i do something then one little thing off i'm like nah nah nah just do it again like
15:36nah man it's all right it's good let it go you know what i'm saying don't rehearse it don't think
15:41about it just do it they want the real you give it to them so those are the things that i feel like
15:47you know i learned from my kids i love it again in the studio with ti and before we let you up out of
15:53here like we talked about i'm serious 25 years king 20 years it's also the 20th anniversary of the movie

16:16do you hope they don't leave out i yikes um i don't even know i don't even know how to wrap my
16:26minds around the ti biopic um i guess um i i mean man you know just i i would say focus on the man
16:42you know what i mean focus on the man i don't i don't i don't want the focus to just be business
16:50entertainment fame fortune like focus on focus on the actual man that was able to make adjustments
16:57in his life to attain these things while maintaining other things that were more important i love it
