00:00Frankly, that is what people are kind of getting annoyed by is the hypocrisy because Mr. Perry
00:05still has an outstanding subpoena that was never complied with. But I don't believe that Mr. Perry
00:10ever signed off on the discharge petition in the first place. So I don't know if he is just doing
00:15what he believes is politically expedient. But I will tell you this. I refuse to be a puppet.
00:22Democrats tend to be of goodwill. We always want to do the right thing. We are always trying to
00:28follow the rules and follow the law. We've got President Clinton with it or say maybe President
00:33Trump and President Clinton, two presidents, because we know that both presidents actually had
00:39a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. But what looks political and looks like one can get away with
00:45everything, especially since that's what the Supreme Court has stated, that's why it looks like it's just
00:51gamesmanship. You only care about following the rules so long as you can invoke those rules on
00:56what is typically perceived as your political enemies. This is why we are falling apart in
01:02this country. Chair recognizes Ms. Crockett from Texas. Thank you so much, Mr. Chair. I have sat here
01:10listening and I am quite perplexed. It does take me back to my legal days. And so when I think about a
01:19subpoena, one of the things that we normally look at when we are trying to determine whether or not
01:25contempt is going to be ushered into the conversation is whether or not there's been substantial
01:31compliance and what it means to actually look like you have substantially complied. It means that
01:39you're taking reasonable steps to follow a court order that you're acting in good faith and typically
01:45that serves as a defense. So if we are still crafting the parameters of said subpoena, for instance,
01:54my colleague, Mr. Walkinshaw, just asked whether or not this would be limited to the Epstein subject
02:03matter. For me, if they responded at all, then there is some sort of compliance, which they did.
02:11They didn't just throw the bird. They didn't just say, forget it. But more importantly, I just want to
02:18point out that we are living in an age of hypocrisy because my other colleague just pointed out that
02:25Mr. Perry sits here and somehow sits in judgment of others. Frankly, that is what people are kind of
02:33getting annoyed by is the hypocrisy because Mr. Perry still has an outstanding subpoena that was never
02:39complied with. In addition to that, he talked about we need to care for the victims. Somebody correct me if
02:46I'm wrong and I will yield my time. But I don't believe that Mr. Perry ever signed off on the
02:51discharge petition in the first place. So I don't know if he is just doing what he believes is
02:56politically expedient. But I will tell you this. I refuse to be a puppet because Democrats tend to be
03:04of goodwill. We always want to do the right thing. We are always trying to follow the rules and follow
03:10the law. Unfortunately, we are living with an administration that does not care. We just want
03:17some type of parity. So for instance, we all want to hear from President Clinton. If for some reason
03:24you said we will give you, say, Pam Bondi and then we've got President Clinton with it or say maybe
03:32President Trump and President Clinton, two presidents, because we know that both presidents
03:38actually had a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. But what looks political and looks like one can
03:44get away with everything, especially since that's what the Supreme Court has stated, that's why it
03:50looks like it's just gamesmanship. You only care about following the rules so long as you can invoke
03:55those rules on what is typically perceived as your political enemies. This is why we are falling apart
04:02in this country. We are supposed to be about checks and balances. It should not matter whether or
04:07not you're associated with the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, Independent or whomever,
04:12whether you're rich, whether you're poor, whether you're middle class, whether you're a black immigrant
04:16or whatever. But it seems like we only have a political agenda in this committee and that's why
04:22everything goes off the rails. You only love law enforcement when they're going after black, brown,
04:28immigrants, that kind of folk, right? But on January 6th, you didn't care about law enforcement
04:34because they still don't have their plaques up. We continue to do the right thing and say, yes,
04:40apply the rules equally across the board and then y'all play in our faces and you only apply it to one
04:46side. I am asking for one commitment and then I will yield to the ranking member.
04:51Mr. Chair, will you commit to me as the chair of probably the most important committee in this
04:58Congress, especially in this moment where people are concerned about the level of corruption that
05:04exists within this committee? Will you promise me that you are good for doing whatever is right
05:13and following the evidence no matter who is on the other side of that evidence?
05:20Yes, and that is why I subpoenaed the estate and we had no idea what was it. Nobody knew.
05:26Nobody knew who was in the estate documents and I, without hesitation, subpoenaed the estate.
05:31We've subpoenaed the Department of Justice. And that's where we got the birthday letter.
05:34We subpoenaed the estate. Hold on, Mr. Chair. We got the birthday letter, but we can't just get
05:41the evidence and then not follow up on the evidence that we actually get. I will relinquish
05:45the rest of my time to the chair. Thank you. I just want to just really clarify one. Thank you
05:50very much, Representative Crockett. Just to back to Mr. Walkenstra's point, I think it's important to
05:54clarify that in communication, Mr. Chair, with your team and the back and forth with the emails,
05:59the Clinton team made it clear that they wanted to answer questions about Epstein,
06:06but that was not something that your team agreed to, only about Epstein. And so I just want to make
06:14sure to clarify, and I appreciate you clarifying, Mr. Comer, that you said that you would limit the
06:18questions to only Epstein. Is that correct? That is correct. And what the Clinton said is not true.
06:25What their lawyer said is a complete lie. Well, I'm glad that you
06:29clarified for them because it's been their impression that it's been, I'm just telling
06:32you, it's been their impression. He's paying them too much money then over the last five months.
06:35I'm not, I'm just reading emails and I'm just reading the back and forth between them and your,
06:41and your, and your team. It's been their impression that those questions were going to be
06:45beyond just Epstein. And so I'm glad that's been clarified. So thank you, Mr. Walkenstra.
