00:00We talked about this earlier with a Denver writer.
00:04Now, Bo Nix is erratic.
00:07Bo Nix is responsible for this team winning 15 games, but he is erratic.
00:12He seems to shine when it matters most, but up until that point, it can be a real disaster.
00:18Can you perform mental gymnastics to make you think that in a defensive battle,
00:24a steadier option at quarterback in Jared Stidham, conceivably steadier option,
00:29and this is all, again, mental gymnastics, in a way, is an advantage,
00:35especially with a great offensive mind like Sean Payton at the helm.
00:38So I can't even doing the mental gymnastics that you described.
00:42I can't twist myself into that pretzel where I come to the point where I say
00:46Stidham is actually an advantage over Nix.
00:49I think where you might be able to get yourself, if you're flexible enough,
00:54is to say that you might get close to breaking even
00:58because what Stidham might be able to do that maybe at times Nix has not
01:05is just play a little steadier, just have the hands on 10-2, manage the game,
01:11take whatever plan that Sean Payton has implemented, screen heavy, potentially.
01:15They are a team that is very reliant on yards after the catch.
01:18So if you can throw it short and not turn it over, you might be okay with that.
01:23Now, the drawback, and I think it's a significant one, for Stidham,
01:28and this is assuming we have any idea how he's going to play,
01:31which we don't because he hasn't played in two years.
01:33So take that as the caveat here.
01:38But he does not, he will not, in my opinion, be able to run the mobile quarterback stuff
01:44that the Broncos have really lived off of.
01:46Bo Nix threw more on the run than anybody this year.
01:51And not only that, he's thrown more on the run than anybody in the next-gen stats era,
01:57which dates back to 2016.
01:59So there's a lot of this, not only scramble drill stuff where he's trying to create off schedule,
02:05but a lot of designed, moving pockets, rollout plays.
02:09And Stidham's not a horrible athlete.
02:11I remember writing about this when we thought he might be the guy taking over
02:14before the Patriots signed Cam Newton.
02:18But he is not so mobile that you're going to want to run him that much.
02:21So can he do the occasional design bootleg the way like a Jared Goff would?
02:26Sure, yeah, he could do that.
02:28But he's not going to scramble around and create yardage on his own.
02:30I mean, Bo Nix has been there leading rusher a number of different weeks this year
02:34because the Broncos' run game really hasn't been all that good.
02:37So he's not that kind of player, and I think that's where you see a significant step back
02:42by making this change here.
