00:07it's an emotional moment because of all the work that you've put in
00:15all the sacrifices made by you your team and your family
00:19in 2006 Mark Comer was making his fifth Dakar appearance
00:26and at 29 years old he became just the second Spaniard after Nani Roma to
00:32conquer the bikes class he finished over an hour clear of the rest of the
00:36field on his KTM
00:42I remember that it was a really beautiful Dakar
00:46I also remember one curious thing that in 2006 I won the rally without winning a
00:52single stage I don't think that's happened very often I was very
00:58concentrated on managing my race I just tried to stay very focused on the
01:04overall standings
01:05and I mean for coming up winning the Dakar changed my life spending two weeks on a
01:19motorbike in Africa and then coming home as the winner that's an experience that
01:24transforms you it has a big impact and knowing how to deal with that as both an
01:29athlete and a person is not easy you have to be prepared for it you have to know how
01:34to adapt to it it was an emotional moment it's hard to express what it meant
01:41because it was my first win and of course you can never repeat the first win
01:45celebrating at Lac Rose after all those years
02:01Lac Rose is very special
02:02it was beautiful to live that moment
02:13and that was the start of my rivalry with Cyril Desprez he'd won in 2005 then I won in 2006 and we
02:29would spend the next 10 years sharing victory at the Dakar but at that time I
02:34had no idea what lay ahead
