00:00First Dakar, first problems.
00:14At Thierry Sabine's first briefing, everybody was gathered around listening, and he said,
00:18you've all seen the old car, the KZ, and I really want her to go all the way.
00:24So whenever we had a problem, somebody would always stop and help.
00:30When we got close to Gao-Oh for the rest day, the engine was starting to use up a lot of oil.
00:43It was smoking a lot because there was an issue with filtration.
00:47We had installed an air filter, but the carburetor itself wasn't sealed,
00:52and that meant that sand was getting into the engine, and eventually the engine got damaged.
00:57When we reached Gao, we went to the first local garage we could find.
01:03It was called Ousman's Garage.
01:09We removed the engine, and I spent the whole day repairing it until the middle of the night.
01:15We finished at half past three in the morning.
01:16We were able to keep going, just about.
01:30We got on a boat to join up with the rally again the next morning.
01:33I was sure they'd get to Tamaracet, maybe even Agadez, but to be only 100km behind us at this stage?
01:45Congratulations.
01:46It shows the boys really wanted it to have brought their car this far.
01:54After Gao, we were driving day and night.
01:57All three of us took turns driving, we were on the road 24 hours a day.
02:07After that, the hardest moments were going through the rocky sections and the fesh-fesh.
02:11In the fesh-fesh, we had issues because the front axles were resting on the centre of the track between the ruts.
02:25The flywheel was under the floor with the fan, and that was blowing all of the fesh-fesh into our faces.
02:30There were plenty of times when we had a nice, thick layer of make-up all over our faces.
02:41And finally, we made it to Dakar.
02:58We were welcomed by the rain, which we hadn't seen for three weeks and 10,000 kilometres.
03:06The welcome was absolutely incredible.
03:08There was a podium set up on the Place de l'Indépendance, and we arrived just after Cyril Neveu,
03:14who slipped off his bike when he rode up onto the stage.
03:22We drove onto the podium, and I can tell you that it was a very emotional moment for all of us,
03:28after this superb adventure.
03:31Someone gave us a bottle of wine, and we poured it straight into the radiator of the car,
03:38because, ultimately, she was the one who deserved it.
03:41It was the one who deserved it.
