00:00Have you noticed how often we forget to just breathe?
00:08In this fast-paced world where there is pressure to live fast,
00:12there's a growing trend of measuring success by knowing when to slow down.
00:18City life, rat race and the so-called hustle culture.
00:22The term time is money may look different to everyone running towards the same goal.
00:26But what if we all took the time to rest as a way to invest in ourselves
00:31and lean in to the power of pause?
00:35I'm Laila Humaira and this is Qatar In Motion.
00:43Did you know that out of 197 countries,
00:47Qatar recently ranked as the 11th least stressed country in the world?
00:53That's pretty remarkable considering just three years ago,
00:56the McKinsey Health Institute found that one in three respondents in the Gulf
01:00reported burnout symptoms.
01:04Wellness is the fastest growing sector within the tourism industry,
01:08set to be worth $1.3 trillion in 2028.
01:12And countries all over the world want a piece of the pie.
01:16But I want to know what wellness actually looks like on the ground.
01:19There are plenty of ways to hit pause and reset in Qatar.
01:23And for those of us who may need a helping hand,
01:25there's no better place to start than the wellness resort that tops the charts.
01:33Tucked away in the most northern tip of Qatar,
01:36Zulal Wellness Resort by Shiva Som is the largest wellness resort in the Middle East.
01:41The sprawling 280,000 square metre site has 120 rooms and suites,
01:48with every inch intentionally designed for maximum privacy and pure relaxation,
01:54whether you're alone, in a pair or with your family.
01:58Here at Zulal Wellness Resort by Shiva Som,
02:02guests choose between two wellness packages,
02:05each tailored to their needs.
02:07Discovery is for families with children,
02:09while Serenity is for child-free adults.
02:13Every guest starts with a consultation
02:15to determine their health conditions,
02:18identify their wellness goals
02:20and come up with a schedule for their stay.
02:23That's what I'll do too.
02:24But before that, I'm learning a bit more about the resort's approach to wellness
02:29with General Manager Ammar Samad.
02:32Thank you so much.
02:33Welcome to Zulal.
02:34Zulal is the first fully immersive wellness resort
02:40in the entire Middle East.
02:42And it's the first in the world to offer wellness
02:47with a backdrop story of traditional Arabic Islamic medicine.
02:51The founder of TAME is a gentleman named Ibn Sina,
02:58who wrote a book of canon.
03:01The idea is there's a holistic and traditional treatments,
03:06herbs, spices, and teas
03:08that can be incorporated in the wellness journey
03:11to offer prevention from treatable diseases,
03:15as well as sustained lifestyle changes
03:19that you will make and you will take with you
03:22when you leave Zulal.
03:24While there's heavy emphasis on traditional Arabic medicine,
03:27Zulal is also modern in every way.
03:30The resort designs every treatment, therapy, and meal
03:34around each guest's health priorities.
03:36When you come here, you're going to sit down with a wellness advisor.
03:41They're going to get to know you as a person,
03:43your lifestyle, what you're trying to achieve.
03:47And they're going to design a journey for you,
03:50personalised to you,
03:51and what you're trying to accomplish throughout.
03:53A very detailed health questionnaire is filled out by every guest,
03:57and it's Dr. Bibi Aisha Lockhart's job to scrutinise the form
04:01and turn it into a wellness plan for them
04:04and something they can follow far beyond their stay at Zulal.
04:08Today, we'll be going through your health and wellness consultation.
04:11You've just filled out the form for me, so that's excellent.
04:14It gives me much better insight into your health and wellbeing
04:16and how we can take you on the journey here at Zulal.
04:20So one of the retreats I would definitely recommend for you
04:24is our Stress Reset and Burnout Recovery Retreat.
04:27And we'll put together your itinerary and schedule
04:29based on your specific goals, your needs,
04:32requirements for your body according to your medical history,
04:35the holistic approach of TAME as well.
04:37Look at what your dominant temperament is,
04:39and then that comes along with a herbal prescription from our apothecary.
04:43And they will be customising the blend to your temperament.
04:47But while the resort guides you to decompress mentally and physically,
04:51a digital detox is completely in your hands.
04:54If you think about it,
04:57with the smartphone or the tablet,
04:59you're constantly switched on.
05:02So what we try to do is promote digital detoxing
05:04so that you can focus on your wellness, your activities.
05:08You'll enjoy your food more if you're not playing with your phone.
05:12You will have a great workout, a great massage.
05:15You need to just switch off and disconnect
05:18so that you can reconnect with yourself.
05:19Okay, Leila, I'm going to hand this over to Fatima,
05:22our pharmacist in the apothecary.
05:26The resort blends centuries-old remedies with modern science.
05:31Ginger teas, herbal compresses,
05:34and intentional movement aren't just trends.
05:37Here, they're a tradition.
05:38I manage both modern pharmacy and also the herbal pharmacy known as apothecary.
05:47I begin with interpreting the theme diagnosis
05:50and accordingly I will carefully select the herbs.
05:54I prepare the combination with ripe proportion
05:57and also label with their ingredients and dosage instructions.
06:03Blending the herbs is not just mixing the ingredients.
06:05It's a pure intention and mindfulness.
06:10I approach it with deep care and intention
06:13by wishing silently that let this heal the guest.
06:17Every formula has an intention to restore balance
06:20in the most natural, gentle way possible
06:23which support both immediate relief and long-term well-being.
06:27I believe that the care and comfort we give
06:32is also the part of the medicine.
06:35Whenever I work with the herbs,
06:37it reminds me about my childhood.
06:40Being from Kerala, the southern part of India,
06:43it's historically known as the land of spices.
06:46We are using the herbs in our daily life,
06:48not only for cooking,
06:50it's a kind of healing culture and identity of us.
06:54My grandmother used to dry the herbs under the sun,
06:57prepare the herbal remedies.
06:59Today I feel like I'm carrying forward that tradition
07:02but with added structure of science and professionalism.
07:06I really love my job.
07:08It's deeply fulfilling.
07:10I get to help the people in a more natural way.
07:13It's a purpose for me other than a profession.
07:15I don't know if it's the tea
07:21or just being in a serene setting
07:24or the combination of both
07:25but I feel a lot more relaxed already.
07:28I'm still thinking about my phone though
07:30so maybe I need to try the next treatment.
07:34Hi, my name is Laila.
07:35Nice to meet you.
07:36Nice to meet you too.
07:37My name is Anju.
07:38This time it comes in the form of a massage called Abhyanga
07:41involving methods from Ayurveda
07:43and ancient Indian healing system.
07:47Anjuli Nortim has been a therapist
07:49for the Shiva Som brand for 14 years
07:51so treatments like this
07:53are literally at her fingertips.
07:56It's quite poignant that the word Abhyanga
07:58also means to nurture or love your body
08:01and Anjuli's firm but gentle hands
08:04truly make you feel nourished
08:06so much that you find yourself drifting away
08:09until these sounds bring you back.
08:16Contrary to what it looks like
08:17this isn't a musical performance.
08:20It's a sound healing session
08:22a type of therapy combining
08:23different musical vibrations and frequencies
08:26believed to be effective
08:28in improving psychological well-being.
08:30We use many instruments like
08:36singing bowls, gongs, and tuning forks
08:39which creates therapeutic soundscapes.
08:41So these sounds are helps to improve our
08:44to provide relaxation, reduce stress
08:47and balance the energy field
08:48as well as the nervous system.
08:50Ultimately, it will slow down our brain waves
08:53and put it in the very deep stage
08:54of the relaxation of our body.
08:55Those aren't just any bowls
08:58they're known as singing bowls
09:00and they come in all sizes.
09:03It's made by different things
09:05but the ultimate goal is the same
09:07work with the frequencies and the vibrations
09:09to balance the energy senders
09:11for the emotional well-being.
09:13Crystal, copper, or tin
09:15the sound healing symphony
09:17has certainly helped calm my monkey mind.
09:19Sometimes, it is nice to disconnect
09:22from the grind
09:23and just focus on the sounds around me.
09:27And it's in this stillness
09:29where everything becomes clearer
09:31the recalibration, reinvigoration
09:34and rejuvenation of my senses
09:36as if breathing new life
09:38into my mind and body.
09:43To get a sense of just how much
09:45the wellness industry has grown
09:46over the last couple of years
09:48just take a look at the influence
09:49it has on global travel conferences
09:52like the Qatar Travel Mart.
09:54I'm here to get an expert analysis
09:56on how wellness has grabbed the spotlight
09:58in the region
09:59and the trends to look out for.
10:01I think the world is changing
10:03at fast pace
10:04the way we behave
10:06the way we eat
10:07the way we travel
10:10and I think there is a lot of these things
10:11in transformation in society
10:13and in our behavior
10:15is being too fast.
10:16and I think a lot of the wellness now
10:18is to try to recover
10:19and remember
10:20who we are
10:21meeting ourselves again
10:23and trying to recover
10:25from some of the
10:26frenetic lifestyles
10:28that we have nowadays.
10:30I think Qatar is leading
10:31a lot on wellness
10:32not only because
10:34of the facilities that they have
10:36but also the approach.
10:37I think it's quite a holistic approach.
10:40So if one side
10:40a lot of the wellness tourism
10:42is very individualized
10:43about high technologies
10:45I think Qatar is looking
10:46to a more holistic approach
10:47that connects culture
10:49connects belonging
10:50it connects traditional healing
10:53and I think that is
10:54quite a niche
10:55and very specific
10:56in terms of wellness tourism.
10:59I think there is a growth
11:00in interest in wellness
11:02not only in trade shows
11:04like QTOM
11:05but also in academic research
11:07so there is a growing
11:08in academic research
11:09about the importance
11:10of wellness tourism.
11:11So we start to see
11:12more and more
11:13the elements
11:14and the offerings
11:15of wellness
11:16and well-being tourism
11:16in different trade shows
11:18but a lot of partnerships
11:19in terms of
11:20how do we advance from here?
11:21How do we embed
11:22a more complex
11:24and holistic system
11:25for the well-being
11:25of our clients
11:26the well-being of the tourists
11:28and I think this needs
11:29to be also in communion
11:30with the environment
11:31that we are around.
11:32Rest and stillness
11:39aren't pauses in progress
11:41they're part of it.
11:43In motion doesn't always
11:44mean moving fast
11:45sometimes it means
11:46moving well
11:47and we hope
11:48you've been inspired
11:49to find your next
11:50moment of calm
11:51and linger in it
11:52a little longer.
11:53That's all for now
11:54on Qatar Emotion
11:55see you next time.
