00:00Hey!
00:01Hey!
00:02Oh!
00:03Pandora!
00:04Pandora!
00:05Pandora!
00:06What you need to do is get control of Pandora.
00:07If dogs go wild...
00:09They are absolutely nuts.
00:12Is the dog around?
00:14Oh!
00:15I can't control them.
00:17Come on now, big boy.
00:18Nathan thinks he can read.
00:19Sure he can.
00:20He can't.
00:21He's a dog.
00:22Of course he can.
00:23And get up.
00:24Oh, here we go.
00:25No, get down.
00:26To no good.
00:27It's very mean now, is it?
00:28I'm honoured.
00:29He's worn down.
00:30Oh, no.
00:31And dirty.
00:32He loves a big, large crap.
00:35Oh, Tank likes to rub his boy parts.
00:40What is going on with you, Tank?
00:42When pups...
00:43I wonder what we're going to learn today.
00:45...need to be schooled.
00:46Three, two, one, and sit.
00:48Fantastic.
00:49Look at that.
00:50Or if your pooch...
00:52He's dropped one.
00:53They got a whiff.
00:54...has a personal problem.
00:56Some dogs have bacterias that are gas-producing.
00:59Just in case.
01:01One man...
01:02Hey, look at that.
01:04...will give it his all.
01:06Jack!
01:07Oi!
01:08Leave it.
01:09And get answers...
01:10I think I might know what's going on, and it's not what you think.
01:13...to any doggy dilemma.
01:15Yeah, that's next level, innit?
01:17This week...
01:18A four-pack...
01:19No!
01:20For God's sake!
01:21...of jealous monsters...
01:22...could get their mum evicted.
01:23No!
01:24Stop!
01:25Unless you can sort it out.
01:26I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
01:27A real screamer...
01:28I thought somebody was being strangled.
01:29Driving a couple apart...
01:30I tend to walk behind them.
01:31I don't want to get involved.
01:32I hate you for what you think.
01:33I don't want to get involved.
01:34I hate you for walking off and leaving me.
01:36And Graham discovers...
01:37The first groom is so important.
01:39...how to prep your pup for the groomers.
01:42I'm going to slowly touch her body.
01:45And what to do about worrying lumps.
01:47Hello, Basil.
01:48So does feel quite...
01:49...firm...
01:50...firm...
01:51...firm...
01:52...firm...
01:53...firm...
01:54...firm...
01:55...firm...
01:56...firm...
01:57...firm...
01:58...firm...
01:59...firm...
02:00...firm...
02:01...firm...
02:02...firm...
02:03...firm...
02:04...feels quite hard.
02:05We're hoping for the best now.
02:06Yeah.
02:07Fingers crossed.
02:08.
02:10There you go.
02:15You know, I absolutely love dogs.
02:17And I'm very lucky.
02:18Because I get to do something every day...
02:20...that I'm really passionate about.
02:22Erm...
02:23And you know what they say...
02:24Choose a job you love...
02:26...and, er...
02:27...you never have to work a day in your life, do you?
02:30And someone who has that in droves...
02:32is Graeme's first case in Melksham, Wiltshire.
02:35Kish, jump.
02:36Good girl. There we go.
02:38Where Marie shares her home with an adorable Pekingese four-pack.
02:45There's Roscoe, Pee-wee, Wurzel and Kish.
02:50My daughter surprised me with Kish, the first one.
02:54And it kind of just snowballed.
02:56Her furry foursome even join her at the office.
03:03I am a dog groomer.
03:05I've had my own business for 20 years this year.
03:08Come on, man.
03:09I just love dogs. Dogs are my life.
03:14This should be doggy heaven.
03:17But when a four-legged client pops in...
03:20Hiya. Hello, Molly.
03:22..it turns to...
03:24..doggy hell.
03:30See you in a bit.
03:34No. I've had enough. Be quiet.
03:39When the customers actually come through the door...
03:41Here we go.
03:43They just literally bark.
03:46No. For God's sake. Pack it in.
03:49And it's very difficult when you've got a customer's dog
03:51either in your arms or trying to lead it to the table.
03:53They're fighting, and I've got to somehow intervene.
03:57Hey, hey, hey.
03:59No!
03:59For God's sake.
04:02Just be quiet.
04:06You're a good boy.
04:08Unlike some.
04:09Some of the dogs come in trembling
04:13because they kick off.
04:17Lee looks terrified, to be honest.
04:20She's not happy to be in the same room as them, definitely.
04:25Sorry about the noise and the barking.
04:27Can't wait to get out of here now, can you?
04:28Marie's hoping for a miracle.
04:32I like doggy mayhem in there.
04:34Can Graham be her saviour?
04:36Come on.
04:37Good boy.
04:38Good boy.
04:39Good boy.
04:39Come on.
04:40Hello.
04:41Hi.
04:41Hiya.
04:42Welcome.
04:43Well, thank you very much.
04:44It's quite a welcome.
04:45How come they're in separate pans then?
04:46Because Kish and Roscoe will attack either each other or the others.
04:53Really?
04:53You never know who's going to kick off first.
04:56It sounds like your mum now.
04:57Hello.
04:58Hi.
04:58It's your mum.
04:59Yeah.
05:00I don't want to show my kiss.
05:01Yes, my mum.
05:02Yes, my mum.
05:03There you go.
05:04Hello.
05:05He's a pretty boy, isn't he?
05:06All right.
05:07Do you get this every time then?
05:09Yeah.
05:09Yeah.
05:10It's quite intense.
05:13Okay.
05:13Thanks ever so much.
05:14That's all right.
05:14Nice to meet you.
05:15Nice to meet you.
05:16That was a bit intense, really.
05:19Yeah.
05:20I shout at them, and I don't like shouting at them.
05:22And I've always been renowned, and other groomers have sent difficult dogs to me over
05:26the years.
05:26Really?
05:27Because I've always had the patience with them.
05:29Right.
05:30That's funny.
05:31So why can't I control my own?
05:33At this point, I can't take on new people.
05:36Because if I was a new customer coming into this, I wouldn't be bringing my dog back.
05:42But a business with no new customers potentially is a dying business.
05:46I agree.
05:47And I'm not quite sure where to go with it.
05:49Before Graham figures out how to turn things round at work, he wants to head back to Marie's
05:56to give everyone a chance to cool off.
05:59Blimey.
06:00All right.
06:00Okay.
06:02Sorry.
06:02Oh, no.
06:03Stop.
06:04Oi.
06:05Pack him in.
06:05Oi.
06:06Hey.
06:06Come on, you lot.
06:07Come on.
06:08Moving swiftly on.
06:09No.
06:11Blimey.
06:12They kind of disgraced themselves there on that walk, didn't they?
06:15As always.
06:16Really?
06:17So as well as there being a problem in the salon, there's obviously a problem on walks.
06:21Any time those four dogs see any dog, it seems, they're kicking off.
06:26This is my home, just down here.
06:28Oh, the caravan.
06:29Yeah.
06:29Okay.
06:30Yeah.
06:31Come on, then.
06:31Oh, God.
06:34There's Gary, the landowner.
06:37He doesn't like the dogs barking on sight.
06:39Hiya.
06:40Hiya.
06:41Hello.
06:41You all right?
06:42Hello.
06:43How are you?
06:43Very well, thank you.
06:45Oh, I'm flying.
06:45How are you?
06:46No.
06:46Oi.
06:47No.
06:47Whoa, whoa, whoa.
06:48Come on.
06:49No.
06:50No.
06:51Right.
06:51I'm going to...
06:52Yeah, you take him in.
06:53I'll see you in a second, Marie, yeah?
06:55Come on, yeah.
06:56They're pretty barking, these dogs.
06:58Very.
06:58Problem is, is it's constant.
07:00We get a fair few complaints.
07:03We have kind of said that, really, unless you can sort it out, then I'm afraid she's going
07:07to be homeless.
07:08So it's been very disruptive.
07:09Very.
07:10Yeah.
07:10Yeah, very.
07:11Oh, dear.
07:11Right, all right.
07:12No pressure there.
07:13I'll do my best.
07:14All right.
07:15Thank you very much.
07:15Cheers, mate.
07:16Enjoy your walk.
07:16Nice to meet you.
07:17And if Gary's forced to give Marie and her four-pack marching orders...
07:22Hiya.
07:22Hello.
07:23...this family could be out of options.
07:25So, it seems like every walk you take is a step nearer to eviction, potentially.
07:33Yeah.
07:33It's scary.
07:35They are the reason I am living in the garavan.
07:37Oh, really?
07:37Tell me about that.
07:38Two years ago, I slipped a disc.
07:41I was unable to work.
07:43So, obviously, financially, it just got to a point where I couldn't afford a private
07:48rental.
07:49Right.
07:50The council wouldn't take a second look at it.
07:53Their line is that you'd have to go into a hostel for up to nine months anyway.
07:57And you can't take...
07:57But we have the dogs.
07:58You can't take dogs.
07:59And the only thing I could think was, what about a caravan?
08:03Getting rid of the dogs was never an option.
08:04Never an option.
08:05I'd never part with them.
08:07I'll see why.
08:08You look at them now, look.
08:09I know.
08:09They're so adorable and angelic when there's no other dogs around.
08:13Yeah.
08:13Yeah.
08:15I think I've seen the whole picture now.
08:17She's under threat of eviction because of these dogs that she loves so much after everything
08:23she's been through.
08:24Good boy.
08:25It's affecting her life in every way you could imagine.
08:29I'll do my best.
08:31But for dogs, it's not going to be easy.
08:32But before Graham can stop Marie getting evicted, he's got to stop her four fur babies destroying
08:41her business.
08:43Can he turn these green-eyed monsters...
08:45Oh, okay.
08:48...into perfect workmates?
08:52Graham solving dog owners' dilemmas from worrying lumps...
08:55So it does feel quite firm.
08:58...to first-time nerves at the salon.
08:59I'm going to leave her to smell first, and then slowly...
09:03So she feels a vibration.
09:04She feels a vibration.
09:06And meets noisy gremlin Gizmo...
09:09Is that right?
09:10It's a bit vocal, this one.
09:12...whose blood-curdling cries...
09:14...are driving a couple apart.
09:16When he'd walk off and I'm left on my own with his screaming dog...
09:20I hate you.
09:21Graham's in Wiltshire with dog groomer Marie...
09:31Hiya!
09:32...who takes her beloved four-pack to work...
09:35No!
09:36For God's sake!
09:37...but them losing it at customers could see her losing her business.
09:42Lee looks terrified.
09:44She's not happy.
09:45...and her home.
09:46Unless you can sort it out, I don't know if I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
09:49It's scary, but I'd never part with them.
09:53Marie's refusing to give up on her beloved four-pack...
09:56...but Graham believes the solution is closer to home than she thinks.
10:00Why do you think they react the way they do?
10:02It's actually been pointed out to me by a couple of friends.
10:05Are they protecting you?
10:06Oh, yeah.
10:07I've got a better one for you.
10:09OK.
10:10I think what you're seeing is not dogs who are being protective.
10:12You've got four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous.
10:15So a dog comes in, you pick the dog up, right?
10:18You talk to them, you put them on the table.
10:20So those customer dogs are getting loads of attention...
10:23...and it's the moments when they get attention that these kick off.
10:27Oh!
10:28They get ignored.
10:30Or they get told off.
10:31Or they get told off.
10:32They just need to understand that when dogs are about, mummy's still losing.
10:36It makes, yeah, total sense.
10:40The jealousy side of it has kind of shocked me.
10:43But it is only once it's pointed out to you that you actually kind of realise...
10:47...how much I, I guess, reward that bad behaviour by shouting.
10:54And they're probably confused.
10:56And it's exactly this confusion Graham wants to fix.
11:00By showing Marie's four-pack, they will get her love and attention...
11:04...but only if they're good.
11:06So, I've got one of your customers coming.
11:09If at any point they kick off, we ignore them.
11:11That's the golden rule.
11:12OK.
11:12When they stop, we tell them, good girl, good boy, and all that, and use the name.
11:17OK.
11:18Will Graham's theory work?
11:20Ah!
11:21In practice?
11:23Right, come on, Kizzy.
11:26Come on, Sue.
11:26Hello.
11:27Hello.
11:27As soon as Kizzy's in Marie's arms, they kick off.
11:35But instead of giving them what for, Marie must wait for the calm.
11:45Good girl, you stopped.
11:47Only then...
11:48Good girl.
11:49...can she show them...
11:50You've been very good.
11:52...the love.
11:53Well done.
11:53Lovely.
11:54Except I'd swap the, like, yay, woo, good girl for, like, good girl, good boy, oh, this
12:01is nice.
12:01OK, so totally...
12:02Which, when you think about it, is exactly what you do.
12:04With the customer's dogs.
12:06I am going to suggest we recreate what happens at the end of the session, take her back to
12:11her owner.
12:11Oh, there we go.
12:12It seems Marie's precious pack are fast learners.
12:16They are, dogs are being good.
12:18Realising they don't have to compete for mum's attention...
12:21There we go.
12:22...has left them...
12:23Well done, you didn't bark.
12:26...lost for words.
12:28Magic, so you've just given the dog to the owner, not peep out of them.
12:33Is that a first?
12:34Yeah, I'm kind of speechless, really.
12:36OK.
12:36Well, we're definitely on the right track.
12:37In a good way, yeah.
12:38The key to success, repetition.
12:41This time, Graham's taking a back seat.
12:44Can Marie manage solo?
12:45I think we need to push this a bit more.
12:47With one of their cutest and fiercest rivals.
12:51The dog is Trixie.
12:53Oh, joyous, OK.
12:56OK.
12:56Yeah.
12:56Are they likely to react to Trixie?
12:58I did her the other week.
12:59They went absolutely mental.
13:01All right.
13:02Not only will Trixie be a tougher challenge, Graham wants Marie to lavish more attention on her
13:07at the grooming table.
13:09I want you to do it now without walking over there.
13:11Keep it calm, like you have been.
13:13Last tip, as you look around, you can smile at them.
13:15OK.
13:16They read faces.
13:18It's all about sending signals out to four dogs all at once whilst keeping hold of the
13:22face.
13:22Wow, OK.
13:23I knew it was me that needed the training.
13:27For Marie, it's the ultimate test.
13:30Hiya.
13:31Good afternoon.
13:32Come on, Trixie.
13:32Come on, Trixie.
13:34Come on.
13:36Come on.
13:37There we go.
13:42On the table.
13:43They're coming down already.
13:44By sticking...
13:45There we go.
13:47...to the plan...
13:48Good girl, Kish.
13:50There we go.
13:51Good boy, Wizzle.
13:53Well done.
13:54Marie can get on with the job in hand.
13:57There we go.
14:00So we're on a winner, then.
14:02Definitely.
14:03That's amazing.
14:04Look how quiet they are now.
14:05They love it when you praise them.
14:08And I think the more you do this, you're on a winner.
14:11Blown away.
14:12I just can't believe the difference in them already.
14:15If they're happy, I'm happy.
14:17Hopefully I'll be able to take on new customers now.
14:20But Marie can't count her chickens yet.
14:23No.
14:23Graham still needs to crack this four-pack's very bad behaviour...
14:27Oh, no, stop.
14:28...outside the workplace.
14:30I need to come back, because this issue of the dogs reacting aggressively to other dogs...
14:34Oi!
14:35Pack him in!
14:36...really means that, you know, there's still that threat of eviction.
14:40Although Graham's devoted his career to answering the calls of desperate dog owners...
14:49Right, let's see what we've got here, then.
14:51Hi, Graham.
14:51...they also reach out...
14:53Our question to you is how do we groom him without causing him any pain?
14:58Good question.
14:59...with a whole host of questions completely unrelated to bad behaviour.
15:03He has a really smelly bottom burp.
15:05That's very genteel.
15:07To help, he's gathered a team of professionals, working in veterinary medicine...
15:11Perfect, all nice and quiet.
15:13...grooming...
15:14He actually has a beautiful coat.
15:16...and pet nutrition.
15:17I just want to watch how he's going to eat this.
15:20Well, I don't know what's in the water this week, but loads of questions coming in about grooming.
15:24An area Graham is well-versed in, having just spent a day with groomer Marie.
15:29One that stood out to me was this one.
15:32Hi, Graham.
15:33We're the UMessi family.
15:34I'm Mum Victoria.
15:36I'm Pumty.
15:37Hi, I'm Bertie.
15:38And I'm Ruth.
15:39And this is our puppy, Truffle.
15:41Very good.
15:42She's dute up her first groom and we'd love to find out how to make it as stress-free as possible.
15:46Well, that's a brilliant question because a puppy's first groom is so important.
15:51It's going to leave a lasting impression.
15:52And a bad first groom can put off dogs for life.
15:56So Graham's brought Truffle and Mum Victoria to Godalming to meet award-winning groomer Kostin Stoika, who knows how to make sure a puppy's first doggy salon trip is a good one.
16:09Hello.
16:10Hello.
16:10Hello.
16:10Oh, lovely.
16:12Hello.
16:12Good to see you again.
16:13Hiya.
16:13Hi, Victoria.
16:14Good to meet you.
16:15Hi.
16:15So we have here Truffle.
16:19The first groom is so important for them.
16:22The earlier they come, the more calmer they are here.
16:26We notice like dogs that come like nine, ten months, they're way more stressed than puppies.
16:32So how old is Truffle?
16:33So she's 13 weeks.
16:3513 weeks.
16:35So clearly though, she can go outside now.
16:38So I always recommend once they have the last vaccination, they have to start grooming straight away.
16:44Kostin's first tip is a simple one.
16:46The sooner you take your pup to the groomers, the easier it becomes.
16:50But only after they've had their second jabs, usually between 10 and 12 weeks old.
16:55You're a buffer, I know.
16:56I haven't actually.
16:57You haven't.
16:58No.
16:58We've been brushing her quite a bit.
17:00Amazing.
17:00That's so important.
17:02Brushing can't be this really important.
17:04So it's so important handling at home.
17:06But brushing is not the only thing you can do at home to prepare your pup.
17:10I'm going to ask to use electric to brush.
17:12Okay.
17:14It's desensitized the puppy from the clippers.
17:17Once your puppy is comfortable with the sound and sensation of a toothbrush.
17:23This is like your husband's shaver.
17:25Yeah.
17:26You can move on to something closer to a groomer's clippers.
17:30I'm going to live up to smell first.
17:33And then slowly try to touch her body.
17:36Oh, I see.
17:36So she feels a vibration.
17:39She feels a vibration.
17:41And I always say, good girl.
17:46So how do we introduce scissors to it?
17:48Again, put my hands so I don't, hey.
17:51Yeah.
17:51What's that?
17:52Good girl.
17:54So do these things at home.
17:55And then when you get your puppy to the groomer, the puppy's going, oh, yeah.
17:59Exactly.
17:59With Truffle familiar with some of the sights, smells and feelings of a groom, it's time for
18:05the first trim.
18:06So they're not left feeling overwhelmed.
18:09It's still baby steps.
18:11Presumably, because today is the first groom.
18:13Yes.
18:13Yes.
18:14You're just going to do a little bit of a token thing.
18:16My goal is always to clip some of the coat.
18:17But that depends how the dogs behave.
18:21On a first groom, it's not about giving your pup a full makeover, just tidying the bits
18:26that need a trim.
18:28In Truffle's case, her paws.
18:31So we go do the face to mummy, like that.
18:34We'll see how she reacts.
18:36The trimmers on her pads, sometimes they can be really ticklish.
18:42Good girl.
18:46Good girl.
18:47So we just, just cut it.
18:54Good girl.
18:57That's in my face.
18:59You've done that before.
18:59I know.
19:01We're just going to leave the hair from the floor, so when she goes outside and it's wet
19:04and muddy, doesn't bring all the mud and water into the house.
19:08Because their feet, they're like sponges.
19:10And that's not the only area of their feet that Costin believes should be given attention.
19:14I always recommend to everyone, bring them for nail clipping to us.
19:19Because you must have trimmed tens of thousands of nails in your time.
19:23If they bleed, it's a big no, because they're going to hate it all their life.
19:28We have dogs that we have to have, like, three people holding the dog with the owner.
19:32Yeah.
19:33Good girl.
19:36Well done.
19:38Perfect.
19:39So, Ruthie, you're taking nothing off of you.
19:41Just the tips, yes.
19:42You're getting her used to it.
19:43And she's a really good girl.
19:45She's a really good girl.
19:46Well done, Truffle.
19:48I think you've got a good one.
19:49I hope so.
19:51Thank you, Costin.
19:52My pleasure.
19:52Thank you so much.
19:53How far will we see you soon in the salon?
19:54Yeah, definitely.
19:54Good.
19:55Yeah.
19:56When it comes to a pup's first groom, the golden rule is less is more, creating a positive experience
20:03they want to enjoy again and again.
20:05With Truffle looking tip-top, Graeme's got the bug for glamour, so he's travelled 250 miles
20:15north to the rural surrounds of Doncaster.
20:18Well, heck, Doncaster's posh, isn't it?
20:21Hey.
20:22To a rather romantic setting.
20:26Morning.
20:28Oh, look, that's nice, isn't it?
20:31It's a lovely thing to get a dog together as a couple.
20:34It brings you together, and it gives you a chance to come out to places like this and
20:39just really enjoy it.
20:47What the heck is that?
20:49Come on!
20:49Come on!
20:50Come on!
20:50Come on!
20:53Come on!
20:53Come on!
20:53Come on!
20:53Come on!
20:55Come on!
20:55Come on!
20:56Come on!
20:56Come on!
20:56Come on!
20:56Come on!
20:57Come on!
20:57Come on!
20:57Come on!
21:00That'd be my dog, weren't it?
21:01I thought somebody was being strangled.
21:08Morning!
21:10Good morning!
21:11Are you, by any chance, Sarah and Dean?
21:13Yes, we are.
21:14I thought you might be.
21:15Gizmo, hello.
21:17That's some heck of a noise you make, isn't it?
21:18Just a bit, yeah.
21:20Shall we go for a walk, then?
21:22Yep.
21:23Come on, then.
21:24Nice place, this.
21:24There's a lot of dogs, isn't there?
21:25There is a lot of dogs.
21:27Oh, Gizmo, come on.
21:32Oh, there we go.
21:36Come on, move the swifty on.
21:38Oh, dear.
21:43He's a bit vocal, this one.
21:49Sarah and Dean have been together seven years.
21:54And with Dean's children having flown the nest, they decided to introduce a new addition,
21:59their own little fur baby.
22:02But Gizmo's cries are killing any romance.
22:08When you start screaming, it's like, oh, everybody looks.
22:14It's just not a pleasant experience.
22:17I ain't taking him anywhere.
22:19Gizmo!
22:20Sarah does everything she can to show she's doing her best.
22:27I've got my vest on, training, lead on.
22:31I don't want people thinking, oh, look at her with that dog.
22:33She's not doing anything.
22:35Calm down.
22:36I don't want it.
22:38I don't want it.
22:39I don't want it.
22:39I don't want it.
22:40It's very intense.
22:43It's doing it.
22:45It is very scary.
22:46I don't want it.
22:49I don't want it.
22:50I don't want it.
22:52What are you doing back there, Dean?
22:54I swear I usually walk.
22:55Walk behind?
22:56Yeah.
22:56I have nothing to do with them.
22:58Yeah.
22:58I've got your number.
23:00I refuse to walk him.
23:02They're screaming, so it buries him.
23:03I tend to walk behind him when I get involved.
23:07When he'd walk off and I'm left on my own with his screaming dog, I hate you.
23:11And hate's a strong word, but I hate you for walking off and leaving me.
23:18Walking with Gizmo is no scream for the couple.
23:22How about sitting down for some quality time?
23:25I think people might be looking.
23:38Just a bit.
23:41Yeah.
23:41Oh, dear.
23:46I don't want to take him away.
23:48With Dean unable to bear the embarrassment, Graham can delve deeper.
23:53So, I noticed Dean was hanging back on the wall.
23:56Yeah, he'll just disappear.
23:59It just riles him.
24:00He just gets embarrassed, frustrated.
24:02How does that make you feel?
24:04Lonely.
24:05Stuck with your problem dog on your own.
24:07Yeah.
24:07Does Dean walk him, then?
24:10No, I have to beg him to come.
24:12Right.
24:13Because, obviously...
24:14Stressful, yeah.
24:18You look a bit emotional, darling.
24:19Yeah, just a bit.
24:21Oh.
24:22Yeah, because it's just stressful and I feel like it's me.
24:26And I feel like a failure as a dog, Mum, yeah.
24:32Yeah, failure.
24:33I just can't go anywhere and it just makes your world a little bit small.
24:38It looks as though he's most sort of coming between you a bit as well.
24:42And is he causing a rift?
24:43Yeah, because I'm sort of quite patient.
24:46I'm like, give him time and I'm quite...
24:50Try not to be hard with him.
24:52So, I'm the softer one.
24:53Whereas, then he'll say, you're not hard enough on him.
24:56You know, you need to be stronger.
24:58And then we argue and...
24:59Right, I'd better catch up with Dean and see how he's getting on.
25:06Hey, up, Dean.
25:07All right, matey.
25:07I thought I'd find you hiding somewhere.
25:09Em, I see you walking off and taking him with you.
25:13What are you thinking at that moment?
25:15Just get me out of there.
25:17Yeah?
25:17My blood's boiling.
25:18Is it?
25:19Yeah.
25:19Sarah thinks...
25:21Sarah thinks you think she's too soft.
25:25Yeah.
25:26Calm down.
25:28You're like chalk and cheesy on her, Sarah.
25:30Yeah, yeah.
25:31100%.
25:31What do you make of this, Ivy's vest?
25:35Oh, you won't catch me.
25:36We're one of them, no.
25:37So, you're sort of blending into the background going...
25:39Yeah.
25:40It's not with me.
25:41Yes.
25:41Yes.
25:41How do you think that makes her feel?
25:44Oh, well.
25:46She don't like him, are you?
25:48No.
25:50No.
25:50Not really.
25:51I think it's just too much for Dean.
25:54And he can't control it, so that's making him frustrated, angry.
25:59But then, of course, the effect that has on Sarah, it's visibly upsetting.
26:04We've got a dog here who's literally splitting them apart.
26:09Coming up, can Graham stop...
26:11No!
26:12...a marauding pack...
26:14...from making their owner homeless?
26:17Now they're all going.
26:19Now listening to your lungs?
26:20Graham discovers what to do...
26:23So, it does feel quite firm.
26:24...about concerning lumps.
26:26It feels quite hard, doesn't it?
26:28And can he bring this screamer's...
26:31No.
26:32...parents...
26:33It's all right, you're not taken away.
26:35...back together.
26:43It's a real screamer in Doncaster, but not everyone's enjoying it.
26:49Dance.
26:49Loudmouth gizmos driving an ear-splitting wedge between Sarah and Dean.
26:55They're screaming, so it buries.
26:56It...
26:57For Graham, the solution to their issues is loud and clear.
27:04Watching his behaviour, for me, the roadblock, actually, is you guys and how you react.
27:09You're both embarrassed.
27:11I think that's...
27:12Oh, yeah, totally.
27:12Really, that's the crux of it.
27:14Your comfort blanket is the high vase, and your comfort blanket, Dean, is 100 metres that
27:21way somewhere, you know.
27:22So, I think we might lose your high vase.
27:25Yay!
27:25So, gone is your high...
27:26Well, yeah, but gone's your comfort blanket, and I'm not going to let you run away, Dean.
27:30So, and that way, we'll hopefully bring you back together again.
27:34Is that fair enough?
27:35Yeah.
27:36Yeah.
27:37If he's got the patience...
27:39Let's hope my patience doesn't run out with you before then.
27:41For the plan to work, this divided couple will need to stick together.
27:48How are you feeling now?
27:50Fair.
27:52And not run in the other direction when Gizmo goes off on one.
27:57No, that's too close.
28:00Instead, they need to praise their little screamer for keeping shtum.
28:04So, here's how it works.
28:06We've got a little dog over there.
28:07He's seen it.
28:08At the moment, at least, he's being good.
28:10So, I think we take a few steps forward.
28:12If he starts to scream and all the rest of it, we can tell him no.
28:16Just nice and calm, but very clear, no.
28:19When he calms down, we then tell him, yeah, good boy, that's very nice,
28:23but not before he calms down.
28:25Yeah?
28:25OK, yeah.
28:27Right.
28:29Can Sarah stand firm without her high viz?
28:33He's pulling a little bit, but we can live with that.
28:36And will Dean stick by her side?
28:39What do you think you should be doing now?
28:41Good boy.
28:42Let's see.
28:43Good boy.
28:44Lovely.
28:46A bit further, maybe, this time.
28:51Good boy.
28:52Good boy.
28:58Good boy.
28:59No.
29:00Sarah and Dean seem to be pulling together.
29:04It's all right.
29:05You'll have to take him away.
29:06But they must stand united until Gizmo gets it out of his system.
29:13The person's got to stand there and go, oh, well, this is awkward,
29:15but I'm going to do nothing.
29:17Making it loud and clear, his noise won't be tolerated.
29:22They stop now, aren't they?
29:24Yeah.
29:25Well, so far, so good.
29:26But most of the point, I'm more pleased about the way Sarah and Dean
29:30are now acting together.
29:32They do look like a taint.
29:34They're both doing the same thing at the same time.
29:36That's so important.
29:37Now Gizmo understands mum and dad don't like him kicking off,
29:41Graham thinks he's ready for the next step.
29:44If you feel confident to do it, I think you could say hello to this dog now, you know?
29:47Yeah.
29:48Say hello.
29:48Say hello.
29:49Say hello nicely.
29:51Good boy, Giz.
29:54Boy.
29:54Good boy.
29:54I love the fact that he keeps looking at you as if to say, is this OK?
29:59Look at this, mum.
29:59It's great.
30:00I've got to say hello to a dog and everything.
30:02Yeah.
30:02Good boy.
30:04Oh, he's having a great time.
30:07I'm staying by his side, so it felt all right, to be fair.
30:12We just got our baby steps.
30:15And then I'll be...
30:16The more I do it, the more I get used to it.
30:19Proud of you.
30:20Now Graham wants them to attempt something impossible only hours ago.
30:27Settle down in the cafe without causing a public disturbance.
30:32Earlier Gizmo's screaming was so intense,
30:35it sent Dean packing and Sarah left hanging.
30:41Can he keep calm enough around other dogs
30:44for the couple to enjoy an alfresco afternoon tea together?
30:47There we go.
30:50Come on, Yorkshire afternoon tea.
30:56Thank you very much.
30:58We've done well, haven't we?
30:59Yeah, he's done fabulous.
31:02What a difference to lunchtime, eh?
31:04Yeah.
31:05What sort of things do you think you'll be able to do now that you couldn't?
31:08Go for a pint.
31:09Go for a pint?
31:10Yeah.
31:12Come here again.
31:13Not embarrassed, relaxed and happy.
31:17Put it there, well done.
31:18Thank you very much, sir.
31:19You've both done a great job.
31:21Thank you very much.
31:21Together, as a team, well done.
31:23Yeah.
31:23Well, we're together.
31:24Magic.
31:25Promise you.
31:26Yeah.
31:26This is going to keep bringing us all closer together and we're going to have more days out.
31:37From the moment they started to work together and sort of resolve to just get over that embarrassment, they looked like a couple again.
31:45That rubbed off on Gizmo.
31:46Well, the rest of it, as they said, it's history.
31:49It's magic.
31:50With harmony, hopefully restored, Graham's quest to keep the nation's dogs happy and healthy continues.
32:00Next on his list, Christine from Manchester and her seven-year-old beagle.
32:04Basil has started to develop lumps as he's getting a bit older and he's got one quite biggish one on his side and some smaller ones on his chest.
32:13I just wondered whether you can shed any light on lumps and whether or not they can become cancerous.
32:19I'm hoping that we can get Basil and Christine a little bit of reassurance.
32:27But first, he wants to meet them.
32:30Hi, nice to meet you.
32:31Owen, yes?
32:32Yeah.
32:33Oh, good morning, Graham.
32:34Nice to meet you.
32:34Hello.
32:35And Basil.
32:35Hello, Basil.
32:37Hello, you're lovely.
32:38How are you?
32:40Well, it's not often you get this, is it?
32:42Hey?
32:43So why do you call him Basil, then?
32:45Oh, Basil Brush.
32:46Is he definitely a brush?
32:47He is.
32:48Very much so.
32:49So, that lump at the side there, you're obviously concerned about that.
32:54We are, yeah.
32:55Okay.
32:56So, I'd like you to meet May.
32:58She's a really good vet.
32:59Perfect.
33:00Oh, and if you grab a seat here, because it's quite tight in there, and then we'll let you know how we get on.
33:04Okay.
33:05All right?
33:05Okay.
33:06Great.
33:07As well as being a vet, May shares her passion for dog health on social media.
33:13There are a few things that you can do at home.
33:15Where she provides tips and advice to millions of viewers.
33:19Ann knows when to be worried about lumps and bumps.
33:22This is the main lump that you're worried about.
33:25That's the main one.
33:26Check your neck, just to check for any swollen glands.
33:30So, none there.
33:31I can all have a body massage, isn't it, Pauza?
33:37It's got a few smaller ones.
33:39Yeah.
33:40So, one, two, and three small ones.
33:43And this is the big one.
33:45Mm-hmm.
33:45Okay.
33:46So, it does feel quite firm.
33:49The good news is there's a simple test a vet can do to highlight any areas of concern.
33:55Based on what I can feel, we can definitely do a sample today.
33:59I'll get the needles now.
34:01And it gives almost instant results.
34:04Give him lots of cuddles.
34:06Hello.
34:06You're a short name.
34:07Beautiful, aren't you?
34:08He's a good boy.
34:08Okay.
34:09By taking samples from the lump and adding various dyes, May can get a clearer picture of what's going on internally.
34:17It's nice to actually say something and not just be told.
34:20Yeah.
34:21She's looking to see if any of the dyes colour the cells.
34:25How are you feeling?
34:26Obviously, a bit worried.
34:27I mean, fingers crossed, you know, it's nothing to worry about.
34:31But you just never know with lumpsteins.
34:33Yeah.
34:33Well, we're hoping for the best out.
34:35Yeah, fingers crossed.
34:39So, would you like to have a look and see what's under the microscope?
34:42Oh, yeah.
34:43That'd be good.
34:43Yeah.
34:44So, these are your little fat droplets.
34:47Oh, I see.
34:48And they're colourless in the centre.
34:50Yes.
34:51Which is quite characteristic of a fatty lump.
34:54So, if they were coloured, that would suggest that some kind of more sinister cells were in there.
35:00Is that right?
35:01Yes.
35:01If they have, like, a nucleus that's stained purple, that means it could be other things.
35:08Oh, that's encouraging.
35:09So, based on how it looks and how it feels, you know, it's most likely a fatty lump.
35:14Okay.
35:14Which is good.
35:15That's good.
35:15That's good.
35:15And what they found is that the older the dog gets, the more likely that they can get
35:20a fatty lump, as well as if they are overweight.
35:23It's always good to keep your dog nice and lean.
35:26It makes sense to have a nice, good diet, not too rich in fats.
35:29But even if it's good news, it's important to keep an eye out for any changes, which is
35:35something you can do at home with a widely available tool.
35:38If we come to you and go, look, it was this number of centimetres last month and now it's
35:59this number of centimetres, that gives you some information to go on?
36:02Yeah.
36:03There'll be a good, you know, indication whether we should pursue testing sooner rather
36:07than later.
36:08So, the indications today are that it doesn't look like cancer.
36:12Well, that's good.
36:13We're all happy about that, obviously.
36:15We want you to have a long, happy, healthy life.
36:18Thank you for your help.
36:19It's been really appreciated.
36:20Brilliant.
36:21Magic.
36:22So, remember, lumps and bumps are all part of getting older.
36:25All good news, Owen.
36:26But you need to remain vigilant and see a vet if you're concerned.
36:30The more information you can give, the better.
36:36Still to come, Graham may have got this jealous pack.
36:41Good girl, Cash.
36:43On the right path at work.
36:45That's amazing.
36:46But if he can't stop them kicking off when they clock off, they could all be sent packing.
36:52Unless you can sort it out.
36:53I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
36:55Oh, oh, oh.
36:56Now they're all going.
37:00Before Graham can put his dog-whispering boots to bed for the weekend, he's headed back to Wiltshire.
37:12No.
37:13To help Marie, whose four little angels turn into devils at the very sight of others.
37:18You've got four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous.
37:21With jealousy driving their rage, Graham taught Marie how to exorcise their demons.
37:29Good girl, Cash.
37:30There we go.
37:31With positivity in the workplace.
37:33Good boy, Wizzle.
37:35Well done.
37:37This time, the stakes are even higher.
37:39Oi!
37:40Fuck it!
37:40Stopping them being terrors outside the office.
37:46They're just so explosive and I can't control them.
37:50And at the campsite, Marie calls home.
37:53Unless you can sort it out, then I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
37:56If she was evicted, what's going to happen to them all, you know?
37:59She'd be homeless again.
38:00So, I'm really feeling the weight on my shoulders.
38:06Morning!
38:07Hiya!
38:08Well, that's time we did well, didn't we?
38:09We did, yes.
38:10I think what we learnt in a salon was that they see other dogs as competition for your affections.
38:14Yes.
38:15So we've got to translate that to the outside.
38:18Right.
38:18Graham believes Marie's four think they're not to blame for mum getting shouty.
38:23It's the other dogs they meet.
38:25So, like last time, they need to learn that only they can keep mum happy.
38:30And only if they're good.
38:32I want to convince them that, yeah, if you see another dog, there's no point barking.
38:36Because barking isn't going to get you love and affection.
38:38So, if at any point they start to bark and kick off, we're just going to stop and do nothing.
38:44So you get love and affection if you're quiet.
38:46If you're kicking off, forget it.
38:47That makes sense.
38:49I think to make life a bit easier for you, initially, what's a, you have one, though.
38:53I'll look after three.
38:54OK.
38:55Pick a peek and ease.
38:56Anyone will do.
38:58Kish.
38:59Right.
39:00Come on, you lot.
39:01But we'll simply not reacting when they kick off.
39:04All right.
39:05We'll wait just here, look.
39:07OK.
39:08We're going to have to wait for this.
39:09And only praising.
39:13Right.
39:13We'll do nothing.
39:14When they pack it in.
39:16Oh, good girl.
39:18Good girl.
39:19Be reassurance enough.
39:21Good girl.
39:22Good boys.
39:24Right, you two are good.
39:25Well, good.
39:26Good girl.
39:27When that all starts happening, whether people admit it or not, often the first instinct is,
39:31you start barking as well, in effect.
39:34Yeah.
39:35And if you start yanking on the lead and everything, it's like, it's all mayhem.
39:38Yeah.
39:39So what we did there was we roared the storm.
39:42Marie's quietly taking control with Kish.
39:45But the job's not done until she can handle all four at once.
39:48I'm a false dog, Pee-wee.
39:50To really put her to the test, two more strangers are added to the mix.
39:55Oh, God.
39:56Oh, oh.
39:57And that's already a problem, right?
39:59All right.
39:59Marie must resist the urge to tell them off.
40:02Oh.
40:03Oh, hang on.
40:04Hang on.
40:06Now they're all going.
40:07Well, those dogs have just kicked off a big stop.
40:14My big worry is, I hope this hasn't blown Marie's confidence.
40:18So we'll wait for it.
40:22Graham knows if she can hold her nerve, they will begin to settle.
40:28Roscoe's being good.
40:28You can give him a little tickle.
40:30Good boy, Roscoe.
40:31There you go.
40:32Good boy.
40:33So we've only got one dog now.
40:35We've got to wait for her to stop.
40:37Oh, good boy.
40:40And by only praising the calm ones...
40:43Oh, good girl.
40:43Good girl.
40:44..the whole pack begin to clock on.
40:49Good girl.
40:50You see that moment there?
40:51She's like, hang on a minute, I'm barking, I'm missing out.
40:53You did good.
40:55You did really well.
40:56Just days ago, Marie giving any dog the slightest bit of attention...
41:01Good boy.
41:02..turned her Pekingese four-pack into green-eyed monsters,
41:05risking both her business and home.
41:10So Graham has one final test to see if their jealous ways could really become a thing of the past.
41:17Lots of people would say, with their dog, if they went to go and stroke somebody else's dog, right,
41:22that would be a reason for their dogs to kick off.
41:25Yeah.
41:25So I wonder what would happen, Eve, if I hold on to your four dogs and you go over to one of those dogs...
41:31Yeah.
41:32..and walk that dog.
41:33Yeah, I don't know.
41:35Then we'll know for sure.
41:36OK.
41:36They're really getting this.
41:38All right.
41:39There we go.
41:39Lovely.
41:40All right, let's see how we go.
41:41But could Marie turning her back on her pack be a step too far?
41:49Come on, Clemmie.
41:57Good girl.
42:01Good girl, Clemmie.
42:03Well, they're interested, but they're not kicking off.
42:07Very good.
42:08Well done.
42:11You're not jealous any more, are you?
42:12Eh?
42:14Hopefully now, Marie can be proud of her Pekingese in public and without the worry of eviction.
42:20I'm hoping this is going to make a big difference to you, innit?
42:23It's going to make a huge difference.
42:25If I can control them, I've kind of got my life back.
42:28Nice.
42:29Future's bright.
42:30Definitely.
42:31And we trained all four at once.
42:33I know.
42:34Which I, to be honest, I didn't think was possible.
42:36I'll let you into a secret.
42:37I wasn't sure it was either.
42:46In Doncaster, Gizmo's showing signs of improvement.
42:50Come on.
42:50But he's still a work in progress.
42:52Let's go.
42:52Victoria is using Kostin's tips to prepare truffle for his first full groom in Surrey.
42:59In Manchester, Basil's had confirmation his bumps are cancer-free.
43:04And in Wiltshire, the threat of eviction has been lifted for Marie.
43:07With her four-pack showing progress, both at home and at work.
43:13Huge improvements in the parlour.
43:14The customers are beginning to notice, which is fantastic.
43:18So, yeah.
43:19Thank you for your advice and help.
43:21If you think your badly behaved dog could do with Graham's help, then why not get in touch?
