00:00Our first speaker is an actor who is currently frontlining the Greg Daniels, Michael Komen mockumentary series, The Paper.
00:10Thirteen years ago, he and Rachel starred together in the beautiful rom-com, About Time,
00:15and I love that their on-stream chemistry has carried over into a real-life friendship.
00:20I also love what that movie did for redhead representation.
00:23There's so many redheads in that movie, I love it.
00:26Last year, he was seen in the two top performing Apple features of the summer, Echo Valley and Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth.
00:32He seems like a really nice guy, but I just have to say, as the villainous General Hux in the Star Wars films,
00:38The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, and The Force Awakens, he has the distinction of having the greatest sneer I have ever seen on film.
00:47This is someone who the best directors in the business line up to work with.
00:51Other films include The Kitchen, The Little Stranger, Mother, My Personal Favourite Frank, and Many Many War.
00:59Please welcome Rachel's good friend, Donald Gleeson, to the stage.
01:03Thank you so much for having me, it is an absolute honour to be here.
01:19I'm pretty sure that anyone who has worked with Rachel McAdams, where they standing here today, would essentially be saying the same thing that I'm about to.
01:33Which is that Rachel, I don't think you deserve this.
01:37And let me tell you why.
01:41Life, and more importantly Hollywood, has taught me that you are not supposed to have it all.
01:47It is not fair to be everyone's favourite person on set, and the best actor in the room.
01:54It is selfish of you to be a devoted mother of two, putting family above all else, and a huge movie star, continually knocking it out of the park, commercially and artistically.
02:08It's not okay to be a Hollywood star and character actor, to be gifted at comedy and drama, to be unrestricted by genre or expectation, and to be the loveliest person I've ever met in my life.
02:22That's not how we do things.
02:24And so yeah, I just, I don't think you deserve it.
02:27Thank you, thank you, thank you.
02:31When I, when I look at the other names on the stars on these streets, I realise that like a lot of these people, like psychopaths is too strong a word, but a lot of these people were crazy.
02:52And you're not, you're amazing.
02:56So how have you made it work?
02:58You're a phenomenal actor.
03:01Every word you utter seems profoundly true and connected, and I have witnessed that up close.
03:07Thirteen years ago, on About Time, Rachel acted so convincingly at me, that for three full months I believed I could travel through time.
03:17You made me believe that we were happily married, in a small town in England, and that Bill Nighy was my father.
03:25That was irresponsible.
03:28It's your talent, I guess, but let me tell you, the comedown was brutal.
03:34So maybe you are a psychopath, I don't know.
03:38Welcome to Hollywood.
03:40No matter the role, I always believe the characters you create, I empathise with all of them, you make me understand all of them.
03:48And in this way, you make everything better.
03:51Every movie, every genre, every character, every co-star, every set, every crew, every room you walk into, you make them all better.
04:05And we are very lucky to have you.
04:08So, while joining the icons, immortalised in these streets, makes this a pretty cool day for Rachel McAdams.
04:18If you ask me, this is also a really cool day for the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
04:23Because as usual, Rachel McAdams is about to rock up and make it better.
