00:37to have the councilman here today to pass and present a resolution from the city
00:43of Los Angeles to Miley thank you so much Ron thanks Jerry Newman Anna Martinez an
00:55entire Hollywood Chamber staff for putting this together thank you Ellen Kay
00:58Anya Taylor-Joy Donna Tyler Versace and of course our guest of honor today Miley
01:04Cyrus my name is Hugo Soto Martinez and I am the
01:12councilmember for the 13th district of those Los Angeles where we are here
01:15today and it's such an honor to be here today to recognize such an icon and
01:21artists someone that has given us so many memories I have to admit that this is a
01:26very special day for me because my sister was here today always had your show on
01:32television and as you've she's grown up and you've grown up it feels like you've
01:37been part of our family growing up with your music and I have to say it's been
01:41infectious and I want I listen to music all the time you have continually
01:50evolved as an artist showing incredible talent and authenticity that connects
01:53with millions of fans around the globe and it is my honor today to present to
01:59you a proclamation on behalf of the city of Los Angeles for all the incredible
02:04work that you've done throughout your career please give it up for Miley Cyrus

03:43here today thank you for being here on my latest album there's a song titled walk of
03:55fame which I wrote way before this precious moment but my co-writer and my dear friend
04:02Brittany Howard she closes the track with a poem and it ends with this mantra you'll live forever and she
04:14she sings it as if this star somehow represents immortality and although I love the
04:22lyric the fact that I won't is what creates the urgency that sets my heart on fire my
04:30life and my art and my desire to break down the walls of any boxes that we've been
04:36tricked to believe that exist my dad used to say that a skyscraper starts with the
04:46jackhammer so does a star on the walk of fame by the way and it's not about the
04:53force but it's about the repetition what feels so special to me about this star is
05:00that it's an accumulation of devotion the star isn't something that you win like a seasonal game
05:09it's not something that you can chase or collect it's not something you make the next record for
05:16and then tote it around like a trophy my name is laid in gold and pink terrazzo and it's fierce

05:28it's fun and it's fabulous and I'm in Versace handpicked from the atelier archives by Donatella
05:35herself which makes it even more fun and even more fierce and even more fabulous and me and
05:42Donatella and Annie are all blonde and it's hot I'm bringing it back yeah it's sickening I know it's
05:53really sickening but you know at one o'clock this moment will be over and it'll go back to being

06:02busy street full of unique people and people that are here exploring for the first time our city that
06:11we all share and that we love so much and after today I commit to continuing the cycle of creation
06:24because that is what I truly live for and it's getting really good my hope is what I leave behind

06:43hope it awakens something raw and imperfect and sexy and glamorous and joyful in times that need it and
