00:00So I'm standing on the eastern beach of Garry, about a kilometre north of the landmark Mahino
00:09shipwreck.
00:10And it's on this beach, close to where I'm standing, where we believe the 19-year-old
00:16Canadian national lost her life in as yet undetermined circumstances yesterday morning.
00:25When we arrived on the scene, we saw local police and QPWS rangers combing the sand dunes,
00:32which you can see behind me.
00:33When we approached them to ask them what they were looking for, they said they were just
00:36doing a final sweep as part of the preliminary investigation.
00:42We saw police vehicles and QPWS vehicles drive up the sand track to my left, where there is
00:49some backpackers' accommodation.
00:52And it's there where we believe the 19-year-old woman was working and staying and where she
00:58had been working and living for around six weeks prior.
01:04We've contacted the owner of the campsite, the backpackers' hostel, but they declined to comment.
01:12So at this stage, in terms of the cause of death, that's as yet undetermined.
01:18The woman's body had been transported to the mainland and it was set to be transported to
01:24Brisbane today, where post-mortem was to take place, where police were hoping the two causes
01:33of death, which they're entertaining currently, whether the woman died due to a dingo attack.
01:40There was a pack of around 10 dingoes found around her body when her body was discovered.
01:46Or whether she died from drowning, which is another strong possibility that police are entertaining.
01:53And certainly the seas here, they look very rough and treacherous.
01:57And locals that we've spoken to said the rips along this coast can be quite dangerous and
02:04they themselves don't normally swim in this beach.
02:10So that's the state of the investigation and the facts, as we know it currently, around
02:17the sudden death of the 19-year-old Canadian National on this beach at Garry.
02:22I'm sorry.
02:23I'm sorry.
