00:29At 4.21 we received our first triple O call and the police boat behind me responded with
00:41two police officers on board to an incident reporting a young boy being taken by a shark.
00:47He is in for the fight of his life now and the actions of emergency services yesterday
00:52gave him that chance.
00:54It was a horrendous scene at the time when police attended.
00:58We believe it was something like a bull shark that attacked the lower limbs of that boy
01:03yesterday.
01:04We believe the combination of the brackish water, the fresh water, the actions of the splashing
01:10may have made that perfect storm environment for that shark attack yesterday.
01:16What we can confirm is one boy definitely entered the water to pull his mate out and the other
01:21boys assisted them up from the water onto the rock platform and that was just before the
01:26police occurred.
01:27So those actions of those young men are brave under those circumstances and very confronting
01:34injuries for those boys to see but I suppose that's mateship.
01:40Between the Eastern Suburbs Police and the MAC team here, they saved his life.
01:45They really applied immediate critical CPR at the time, the boy had lost his pulse, there
01:51was a large blood loss and the double tourniquet stemmed that flow of blood loss yesterday and
01:57has contributed to saving his life.
01:58There was one way to do this.
01:59There was one way to do this.
02:00Yeah.
02:01Yeah.
02:02It was a large blood loss, there was one way to do it, it was a large blood loss.
02:05There was only one way to do it, it was just a couple of years ago, a few years ago.
02:13That's a good idea.
