A 15-year-old student accused of murdering his schoolmate in Bandar Utama has been declared fit to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation.

00:00The 15-year-old male student accused of murdering his schoolmate in Banda Utama
00:05has been declared fit to stand trial, according to a psychiatric report.
00:10His lawyer, Kitson Fung, said he conveyed this to the magistrate's court during closed-door proceedings,
00:15which subsequently made the ruling on Friday.
00:18Fung added that the psychiatric report recommended the accused be placed at a correctional facility
00:23in Poonchak Alam, described as a prison for children,
00:27and ordered to attend monthly counseling and therapy sessions.

00:36The accused was charged on October 22, 2025,
00:41with murdering 16-year-old Yap Xing Xuan in a school toilet between 9.20 a.m. and 9.35 a.m. on October 14th.
00:49The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a death sentence or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years
00:56and 12 strokes of the rotan, if convicted.
00:59Earlier, the court had ordered the accused to undergo a psychiatric evaluation
