00:00Can you hear me now? That used to be Verizon's slogan, and on Wednesday it became a very real question for millions of customers.
00:10A massive outage that began around noon Eastern left Verizon users staring at phones that read SOS, or no signal, where the bars should be.
00:19Calls would not go through. Data was down. For hours, phones were basically bricks.
00:24Major cities were hit, including New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
00:31Verizon later apologized on X, saying the outage has now been resolved.
00:35If your phone is still struggling this morning to reconnect, the company says restarting your device or toggling into airplane mode on and off should help.
00:45But the big question remains, what happened? Verizon hasn't said.
00:49But ABC News, citing law enforcement sources, reports the outage was caused by a server problem in New Jersey, not a cyber attack.
00:57Verizon says it plans to issue account credits to affected customers and will share details directly.
