00:00:00Oh, look at that!
00:00:02Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:04Rudy Alcott!
00:00:06Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Good evening.
00:00:50Just the five games to bring you on tonight's Match of the Day,
00:00:53but an important one perhaps in the early stages of the title race.
00:00:57And there's a decent front two in the studio to talk us through it all.
00:01:00Just the 468 Premier League goals between Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney.
00:01:06To Stamford Bridgeland, Chelsea who've lost their last two in the league
00:01:09against Liverpool, beaten at Crystal Palace last weekend
00:01:12before defeat at Galatasaray on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
00:01:16Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
00:01:20Near the Chelsea nor Liverpool would find defeat today very palatable.
00:01:24It's an outcome which would leave the Blues ten points behind the Reds,
00:01:28or it could be back-to-back league defeats for Liverpool
00:01:31for the first time under Arna Slott.
00:01:33Injuries haven't helped Chelsea, but they're neither of suspensions.
00:01:37And his red card against Brighton keeps Trevor Chalaba out today,
00:01:41one of three dismissals in their last four games.
00:01:44Three changes to the game against Benfica, James Atchampong,
00:01:48and João Pedro coming in.
00:01:50For Liverpool, Gheorghe Marmodash really makes his first Premier League start.
00:01:54In for the injured Alisson.
00:01:56The other changes to the Galatasaray defeat see Frimpong, Wirtz, Eketike and Jones on the bench.
00:02:02In come Bradley, McAllister, Salah and Isak.
00:02:07Well, that's not where Van Dijk wanted it.
00:02:28Gustav.
00:02:29Whoo-hoo!
00:02:36Kaisseto getting away from Alexis McAllister,
00:02:42and in behind that Liverpool back line, and what a goal that is!
00:02:46Oh, that's an absolute beauty from Kaisseto.
00:02:51Well, he has that in his locker.
00:02:54his locker. Well the minute he got away from Alexis McAllister here you thought it might be on
00:02:59and he took it on and how. Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0. A rocket from Caicedo. Now Marmadasz really
00:03:09got a little finger to it. But that is nigh on unsavable.
00:03:15Here's Gakpo after a misjudgment from Rhys James. He finds Isak.
00:03:32Gakpo and Somersly surely it's blocked. Well it's a great chance. Here's Gakpo, the offside flag's gone up though.
00:03:42That's a big opportunity for Liverpool to equalise very quickly having fallen behind.
00:03:49Pedro Neto got the better of Milos Kerkes now. Four forward for Chelsea. Five back for Liverpool.
00:04:02Pedro Neto running at Virgil van Dijk and getting round van Dijk. Canate covering Chelsea corner.
00:04:09corner.
00:04:24Gusto for Cucurella. And Garnaccio! Not far wide. Nicely worked corner kick. Well hit by Garnaccio.
00:04:33Garnaccio's got in behind. Sobosly! That could be a penalty. Anthony Taylor says no.
00:04:40Well big big appeals. Anthony Taylor has said no. Craig Pawson and the VAR team will be looking at this.
00:04:50Well Craig Pawson has looked at it and it will not be a penalty.
00:04:59And Anthony Taylor is coming over to the Chelsea bench here. Enzo Mareska has been shown a yellow card.
00:05:09Liverpool have brought on Florian Wetz and taken off Conor Bradley.
00:05:21Sobosly at right back as Wetz finds Gakpo. And back into Florian Wetz. And if that reaches Salah it's brilliant and he's put it wide.
00:05:30Well it's a contender for Liverpool's best attack of the game so far. And it comes in the first few seconds of the second period.
00:05:39And Florian Wetz. That's a great little flick into Salah.
00:05:44McAllister gets Salah running in behind. Badia Shield. Isak, Florian Wetz and Gakpo are getting forward.
00:05:56Salah cuts inside as he does. But misses the target.
00:06:00Chelsea with Badia Shield down at the moment.
00:06:07Now this is going to be interesting because Lavia is coming on. Badia Shield is unable to continue.
00:06:21Not a straight swap.
00:06:24So it looks like Malagusta goes to right back. Rhys James to central defender.
00:06:32Malagusta. Alongside Achenpong.
00:06:37And it looks like Liverpool's back four is going to be Sobosly, Gravenberg, Van Dijk and Robertson.
00:06:47Here's Salah.
00:06:53Took a little flick off Cucurella and Gakpo scores for Liverpool.
00:06:58Somewhat against the run of play over the last five or ten minutes or so.
00:07:02But Liverpool are level.
00:07:04Dominic Sobosly's cross here took a flick off Mark Cucurella.
00:07:08And it was just touched by Isak into the path of Gakpo.
00:07:15Who gleefully rattled it home.
00:07:18A delightfully deft touch from Alexander Isak.
00:07:22Fell beautifully for Gakpo and it's one each.
00:07:25Ryan Gravenberg for Liverpool. They've got four up here. Florian Verts plays it through to Salah.
00:07:39Gakpo's in the middle. Mohamed Salah.
00:07:42Well that is a very strange effort. Flag has gone up actually. It wouldn't have counted.
00:07:48Chelsea might have another defensive issue here.
00:07:52And Atchampong is going to be replaced here by Jarel Harto.
00:08:02Gusto James.
00:08:04Good ball by Rhys James. His Gittens for Chelsea.
00:08:12Cutting inside of. Sobosly pushed away by Marmadashvili. Collected by Esteval.
00:08:24Curling and tipped around.
00:08:26Well I'm not sure if it was heading in but Marmadashvili wasn't sure either.
00:08:32Super effort by Esteval.
00:08:36Could save that.
00:08:40And that wasn't too bad either.
00:08:42Caicedo.
00:08:48Esteval.
00:08:52Enzo Fernandes with a great run!
00:08:54Well that is a glorious opportunity.
00:09:00Everything but the finish here.
00:09:02Sobosly was napping.
00:09:04Enzo Fernandes gets loads of power on it.
00:09:08And it hits the post.
00:09:14Lavia Kukuro.
00:09:22Gittens.
00:09:24Enzo Fernandes.
00:09:26Oh, sneaked into Kukurela.
00:09:30Esteval!
00:09:32Surely wins the game for Chelsea.
00:09:38The teenage Brazilian comes of age at Stamford Bridge with a late, late winning goal.
00:09:46His first for the club.
00:09:50Onside, Mark Kukurela. No question about that.
00:09:54And Esteval scores.
00:09:58And I believe that Enzo Mureska has been dismissed.
00:10:06For this.
00:10:08Already had a yellow card.
00:10:10Liverpool lose in London again.
00:10:14Three defeats in a week for Arna Slotside.
00:10:16Chelsea 2.
00:10:18Liverpool 1.
00:10:20Willi, firstly, we just have to explain why we're speaking to you and not Enzo.
00:10:25That's because of the red card.
00:10:26Of course he can't do the TV.
00:10:28Yeah.
00:10:29Yeah.
00:10:30Unfortunately what happened.
00:10:31But we all understand the emotion of the game and the situation in the last second.
00:10:37How we score.
00:10:38And so lovely to see a teenage boy, a young Brazilian kid.
00:10:43Just so delighted with that winning goal.
00:10:46I mean, a massive moment for Esteval.
00:10:48Not just for him, it's for the whole squad.
00:10:51We've got a very young squad that has to learn through games.
00:10:56And for Esteval, this moment will be unforgettable for us also.
00:11:00It's a really good moment.
00:11:02Close margins like last season.
00:11:04And that's the same for the last two games we've played.
00:11:07I think in both games we've created more chances, goal scoring opportunities than the
00:11:13teams we faced with Palace and Chelsea.
00:11:17But the truth is that we've only scored in both games one time and our opponent scored
00:11:22in both games twice.
00:11:24Well, both these teams came into this one really needing a win.
00:11:28So how did Chelsea manage to exploit Liverpool down the flanks, Wayne?
00:11:31I think Liverpool, it's a clear problem they've got in the right back area.
00:11:36And I think if you look, Bradley's come off twice in the last two league games at half-time.
00:11:43They've tried Sobislai in there at times and it hasn't really worked for him.
00:11:49And Frimpong was on the bench today and didn't get on.
00:11:51They've tried three fullbacks in seven or eight games.
00:11:55So I think Chelsea have seen that and they've exploited it.
00:11:58So I think if you watch here, Cucurea and Garnaccio, they're in really good positions.
00:12:06And Bradley makes the wrong decision in going to Cucurea.
00:12:09And then you've got Murawski, you can see him telling Sanchez to put the ball in behind Bradley,
00:12:14which then it causes Liverpool a big problem.
00:12:17Canate gets dragged out of position.
00:12:19Conor Bradley's trying to recover and trying to recover inside,
00:12:22but it puts Chelsea in a real dangerous position.
00:12:25And now as they're trying to recover the positions,
00:12:28they're Liverpool back forward all over the place.
00:12:31And then you've got Van Dijk steps out and if that pass is a little bit better,
00:12:36there's a massive space for Pedro in the middle of the goal to have a tap in.
00:12:40So that was a warning sign.
00:12:41And then again here, now you've got Garnaccio, he faces Bradley up.
00:12:45Salah's no interest in tracking back to help him out.
00:12:48And Bradley, he's trying to do his best to get to the Chelsea players
00:12:52and ultimately it leads in him getting a yellow card,
00:12:55which I'm sure that was a big factor in why he got subbed off at half-time.
00:13:00And again here, different players, but the same again.
00:13:04Soberslay gets dragged out into Cucurea, now it's Gravenberg at centre-back.
00:13:09He gets isolated, now he's one-on-one with Garnaccio.
00:13:12And then a little bit of care, Chelsea maybe have a goal.
00:13:15And then this is Mo Salah, I think he's with Cucurea, he has to stay with him
00:13:20because this was a problem.
00:13:21Chelsea can see that, they've exploited it.
00:13:23He's no interest in really tracking back, it's a lazy jog.
00:13:27Then he stops, Cucurea keeps going.
00:13:30And now from being together, there's a big 20-yard gap
00:13:33and this was a problem all afternoon for Liverpool.
00:13:36And now the other side, it goes to Esteval.
00:13:44Salah again is in a position where he needs to get back
00:13:48and he needs to connect with his midfield players, but he doesn't.
00:13:51And Chelsea have got big overloads, Esteval sees that.
00:13:54Enzo makes a run in off the back of Soberslay now.
00:13:58Where Mo Salah, I think he's not even close enough to shout at else obviously.
00:14:01And then the goal, the winning goal.
00:14:03Again, Cucurea making four runs, Salah's no interest in getting back.
00:14:07Van Dijk is with his man.
00:14:09Robertson's got his hands on his knees, I don't know if he's got a knock or he's tired.
00:14:13Esteval's in a good position at the back.
00:14:15Van Dijk leaves his man, tries to play offside and Robertson is unaware of what's behind him.
00:14:21And Esteval gets the winning goal.
00:14:23So I think it was a big problem for Liverpool, not just tonight but throughout the season.
00:14:28You know you mentioned Salah there.
00:14:29I know you can basically get away with what you want when you're scoring 25 or 30 goals.
00:14:33But Salah has no interest in tracking back anyway.
00:14:36So what's the difference from him last season to this season,
00:14:39that they're not getting away with it this season?
00:14:41I think last season they were consistent in the team, they were consistent in the midfield.
00:14:45They had the three in midfield and they were very difficult to play against.
00:14:49And that helped, that midfield shuffled across and helped Salah out a lot.
00:14:52Where this season they've played the two in midfield, they have worked in front of that.
00:14:56And today was the first time they've gone back to a three.
00:14:58So maybe it was a bit unfamiliar for the midfield this season.
00:15:01And it's took them a bit more time than they thought to fix that.
00:15:04It was a really good game and it got better and better as the game went on.
00:15:07And Chelsea were very impressive.
00:15:09Moises Caicedo particularly so.
00:15:11It was a gigantic midfield performance, it really was.
00:15:15It had absolutely everything.
00:15:17It had a bit of Frank Lampard, it had a bit of N'Golo Kante.
00:15:20He was just absolutely sensational.
00:15:22He covered every bit of grass that he could.
00:15:25And of course the goal topped it off.
00:15:28I mean there's no goalkeeper in the world that's going to save this.
00:15:32But the way he makes and creates space for himself.
00:15:35They did this most of the afternoon.
00:15:37It actually made it difficult for Liverpool's midfield to get near him.
00:15:41But that touch to get away from McAllister.
00:15:44And then the technique there, as I said.
00:15:47There's no one stopping that.
00:15:48The power behind that is incredible.
00:15:50And the direction of it is perfect.
00:15:53I said it just had everything this performance from him.
00:15:56It had the goal.
00:15:57It had protection in front of his back four.
00:16:00Don't forget the injuries and suspensions that they've got Chelsea.
00:16:04So they needed him in that midfield to stand up.
00:16:06The composure.
00:16:08Not under pressure at all.
00:16:10To play the passes like that.
00:16:11Then to set Chelsea on the way in the final third again.
00:16:15And then same again.
00:16:16Protection.
00:16:17Timing of the tackle was absolutely superb.
00:16:20And spot on most of the afternoon.
00:16:23And then very nearly again.
00:16:25He had the shot again.
00:16:26It's a decent save all.
00:16:27But he's having the pop.
00:16:29And this is in the last minute of the game basically.
00:16:32Protecting that goal again.
00:16:34That win again.
00:16:35And he was just.
00:16:36It had everything.
00:16:37It had everything.
00:16:38The midfield performance had everything from him.
00:16:40And that's not just today.
00:16:42That's all season by the way.
00:16:43In midfielders.
00:16:44So it was almost near on perfect performance from a midfielder.
00:16:48Mariska got two yellows.
00:16:50Got sent off eventually for celebrating his second yellow.
00:16:53But you can't blame him.
00:16:54A week ago he was allegedly under a lot of pressure.
00:16:57And might have lost his job.
00:16:58Had he not had a win in the Champions League midweek.
00:17:00I know the laws and the rules.
00:17:02But come on.
00:17:03You've just scored a brilliant late goal.
00:17:05Your team has been superb for you.
00:17:07Under huge pressure.
00:17:08And he gets a yellow card for showing that emotion.
00:17:11I don't get it.
00:17:13Okay.
00:17:14Leeds haven't lost a league game at El Road in over a year.
00:17:17Visitors Tottenham have come from behind to draw their last two in the Premier League.
00:17:21And did the same in the Champions League in Norway on Tuesday.
00:17:24Your commentator is Guy Mowbray.
00:17:27Will this be the day of Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first home goal for Leeds?
00:17:32He put three fast birds in his Everton days.
00:17:35Including one in January that was his final goal for them.
00:17:38He plays in a Leeds team unchanged for the fourth Premier League match in a row.
00:17:42Whilst the visitors side shows six changes from Tuesday at Bodo Glimpt.
00:17:46With Xavi Simons amongst those back in.
00:17:48It surely won't be long before he's on the score sheet for Thomas Franks Tottenham.
00:17:52Okafor.
00:17:57Stopped in his tracks by Pedro Poro. Leeds free kick.
00:18:04It's been a really bright lead start.
00:18:06They've been on top.
00:18:13He's on the move here.
00:18:15Oh, it's Rodan at the back and he's in the post.
00:18:17Vicario's struggling to get anywhere near it.
00:18:21Scored against Bournemouth and look how close he is to scoring against Spurs.
00:18:26His old club.
00:18:30Mark has forgotten what it's like to lose a league game at Elland Road.
00:18:33It was 14th of September last year when Burnley won 1-0 here.
00:18:38Darlow.
00:18:39Goodman's been advancing just hoping for an error of judgement from Pedro Poro but it didn't come.
00:18:47And that might mean there's a big gap where the left back used to be.
00:18:51That's Mattis Tell.
00:18:52That's Mattis Tell.
00:18:53Oh, there was a gap.
00:18:54And he found it.
00:18:56That's a brilliant finish from Mattis Tell.
00:19:01Takes a big deflection, I'm sure of it.
00:19:04Was that the crucial factor in Tell putting Spurs in front?
00:19:08His first goal of the Premier League season.
00:19:13He's onside, there's no problem with that.
00:19:17Strouck is back to bar his way.
00:19:20And then it comes off.
00:19:22The lead's number five.
00:19:24And it goes looping over a helpless Carl Darlow.
00:19:28It's one for Thomas Frank to celebrate happily.
00:19:31Leeds nil, Spurs one.
00:19:41Oh, given away.
00:19:42Calvert-Lewin's got a big chance here.
00:19:44But he can't take it.
00:19:47Let off for Spurs.
00:19:49Big warning for them.
00:19:50Calvert-Lewin made to hurry his finish ultimately.
00:19:53There's two things at fault there.
00:19:55Spurs for allowing it to happen in the first place when one nil up.
00:19:59Leeds for letting them off the hook.
00:20:01Now here comes Spurs on the break.
00:20:03And look at the numbers they've got over.
00:20:04It's Kudus!
00:20:06And he has really made a mess of that.
00:20:09Udogi leading the charge here.
00:20:11Playing the ball across to an unmarked Mohamed Kudus.
00:20:14Never mind Kudus could have, he should have.
00:20:16Bogle.
00:20:17That's a good ball.
00:20:18It was just behind Calvert-Lewin.
00:20:19It's a good strike from Aronson.
00:20:20And it's a tap-in for Okafor.
00:20:21Spurs players look across to the assistant referee, Ian Hutton.
00:20:22The man in the middle, Tom Bramall, looked across to Ian Hutton as well.
00:20:27Okafor is minded to celebrate the goal fully.
00:20:31It's a good strike from Aronson.
00:20:33It's actually the second touch by Vicario that's really unlucky.
00:20:51There, that one.
00:20:52And we have a foreign object on the field.
00:20:56It's Sunder Liverpool from all those years ago, all over again.
00:20:59all those years ago all over again, although this time that definitely didn't play a part.
00:21:04It's 1-1 at Elland Road.
00:21:11Doggy.
00:21:15Siemens, and Holt from Bogle lifts it forward, and off the bar from Matties Tell.
00:21:22Tell so close to two goals.
00:21:25Another bear with the lift into the box.
00:21:29Get a firm head to the ball.
00:21:33Stack.
00:21:36Okafor.
00:21:38And a take on Pedro Poro, and play it across to Kelvin Lewin.
00:21:42That's a good save.
00:21:45Stack.
00:21:48Long stack.
00:21:53Stack sets himself to cross, Bogle didn't get the flick,
00:21:56and it beat Calvin Lewin in the middle, and it beat Okafor at the back post too.
00:22:00Anton Stack just pleading for anybody to get something on the end of that.
00:22:07Spurs' Italian goalkeeper will be 29 on Tuesday. He's approaching peak years.
00:22:13Demonstrating it again here.
00:22:14Not a bear.
00:22:19Pedro Poro.
00:22:20Could have advanced if he'd wanted to. He's got it again now.
00:22:24Stroke a good luck there, and he's caught late.
00:22:26It will be a free kick for Spurs.
00:22:30And Perdue the offender.
00:22:31He's got caution for it.
00:22:37This is being looked at with a view to a possible upgrade from yellow to red.
00:22:42I don't think it'll happen.
00:22:44And in fact, it has now been described as, yes, confirmation, a reckless tackle.
00:22:48So that's yellow.
00:22:50Will Spurs go low or high? Will they score?
00:22:53It's all about to be answered.
00:22:56Javi Siemens leaves it for Kudos.
00:23:00In the end, they did nothing.
00:23:03And the rain now is probably at the heaviest it's been all afternoon.
00:23:07Toro.
00:23:14Comes off Goodmanson and Kudos is on to it.
00:23:17Mohamed Kudos has the chance now, and it's in!
00:23:21It's his first Spurs goal.
00:23:27He's taken centre stage, but so has Pascal Stroke.
00:23:30Because for the second time this afternoon, the ball's deflected into the Leeds net off the Leeds defender.
00:23:37Goodmanson was the player caught cold by Kudos.
00:23:40Stroke's just trying to do what he tried to do before, blocked the shot.
00:23:45And for the second time today, it didn't make any difference.
00:23:48Leeds one, Tottenham two.
00:23:50Odderberg, Javi Siemens.
00:24:00This could be brilliant from back to front for Spurs.
00:24:03Siemens across to Kudos.
00:24:04Javi Siemens.
00:24:08Now Pedro Poro arrives.
00:24:11Well, every touch was nice until the crucial one at the end.
00:24:13And Javi Siemens is today adding that little bit of creativity that's maybe been missing for Spurs too often this season.
00:24:20And without James Madison, without Dejan Kulicewski.
00:24:24I wonder if we're starting to see signs of Spurs just, maybe of their own volition, sitting back a little.
00:24:32Tanaka.
00:24:33Longstaff!
00:24:37Well, that sizzled wide.
00:24:39The ball went the direction you maybe might expect it to, just following the trajectory of his turn.
00:24:45Turn and fire, but fire wide.
00:24:49When it comes, if it comes, Leeds absolutely must make the next chance count.
00:24:54Carlo able to come a long way with that.
00:24:55Calvert-Lewin.
00:24:59That's Pirou!
00:25:01Saved by Vicario, and it might be a match-winning save.
00:25:06Super leap from Calvert-Lewin.
00:25:08Pirou did really well with it, because he didn't have much time at all to react.
00:25:12Nor did Vicario.
00:25:14Top stop.
00:25:16We needed a win, I think, the last three games, definitely a draw.
00:25:19So that feeling to get over the line, to get three points, I thought was big.
00:25:24But also, in respect for Leeds and Ellen Road, we haven't lost here more than a year.
00:25:32So I'm very aware, we are very aware of the task ahead of us, and that we overcome that in a very good way.
00:25:39Matisse, the first goal in the Premier League this season. How does it feel to be on the winning side here?
00:25:43For sure, I'm very happy about my first goal, and I will say that with the team we work a lot this week,
00:25:51and I deserve this goal, and I'm very happy about it.
00:25:56What does that goal mean for Mohamed Kouda? He's had to wait for it, he's had to work for it.
00:26:00Yeah, I think I was so happy for him, scoring that goal, because of course, obviously, he wanted it.
00:26:05And then, not only scoring a goal, he's scoring the winner in a tight away win, and a good goal.
00:26:11So I'm really pleased with that.
00:26:13Today, we are disappointed, but of course, that we are capable to be in all aspects,
00:26:17really, the better side against such a top-class side, and the side who can bring so much quality in.
00:26:21So it says a lot about my team, and that we are on the right path.
00:26:25It was another top performance of my lads, and so we could go in exactly in this way.
00:26:30Alan, you were impressed with Spurs' quick, slick attacking play today.
00:26:35Yeah, I was, because they were under pressure at times from Leeds,
00:26:39and it was always going to be a really tough game there.
00:26:41But I thought, particularly on the turnover transition, once they won that ball,
00:26:46their attitude to get the ball forward as quick as possible has ultimately helped them win the game.
00:26:52And that's the reason why they won the game.
00:26:54Their forward positions, their forward players, I should say, I thought were very good.
00:26:58And this is a great example of winning the ball back, and straight away, forward pass into the final third,
00:27:03and saying to the forward players, go and do your stuff,
00:27:06tells us exactly that.
00:27:07What a great attitude after he'd been left out of the Champions League squad to prove a point to today,
00:27:12that his attitude is absolutely right.
00:27:14Same thing again, from defensive, Udogio I thought was fantastic as well,
00:27:19defensive area, straight in to forward positions, and that should be hitting the target at least anyway.
00:27:25Again, forward pass, look at the energy, look at the application for forward to get into those forward positions.
00:27:31I mean, I don't know what Javi Simons is trying to do here.
00:27:34It's a simple pass with the left foot rather than the back flick, but I suppose the confidence was high.
00:27:39Porro in behind, but again, and Kudos gets his goal.
00:27:42He's made a great start to his Spurs career, and he deserved this goal, because he's been Spurs' best player this season.
00:27:48Again, a little bit of deflection, but look from the goalkeeper, within three or four seconds,
00:27:53you've gone from the keeper into the final third.
00:27:56They're all running forward, they're all having the energy to do it, and the run from Porro,
00:28:01as we saw from Udogio, he wasn't shy in doing that also, and again, that should be better.
00:28:06But it was their attitude, and with playing in the Champions League away from home,
00:28:11and going to Leeds at lunchtime on Saturday morning, you know you're in for a tough game.
00:28:15So, as well as getting forward quickly, I was so impressed with the attitude from Spurs players as well.
00:28:21There's a grittiness, there's a resilience that we're seeing.
00:28:23Absolutely, and that's what would have pleased Thomas Frank.
00:28:25Yeah, and that was lovely there, wasn't it, Frank with Kudos, because when you signed for £55 million,
00:28:30and you might be doing lots of amazing things, and as Alan said, you know, arguably Spurs' best player,
00:28:34getting that goal will just feel fantastic to him tonight.
00:28:37I think he's been a breath of fresh air, I think, you look at the stats from today's game,
00:28:43he's first in duels, won successful dribbles, shots, touches in opposition to box, sprints,
00:28:48and he's had a real impact for Tottenham this season, and he's got four assists this season,
00:28:55joined first in the Premier League, he's by far had the most successful dribbles in the league,
00:29:01so all of what was missing was the goal, and I think that goal today will push him on that next step now,
00:29:06and he's been a real top signing.
00:29:09This was another really great entertaining match, wasn't it, and Leeds played their part in that,
00:29:12and as Daniel Farker said, they were ahead on things like possession, expected goals,
00:29:16but it's that final product, isn't it, that they're just missing that goal scorer?
00:29:21It is, and I think Leeds were very unlucky today to come away with no points,
00:29:25I thought they created some really good chances, and they just weren't clinical enough, and if we...
00:29:30If we see here, early on, Rodon come round the back, it's a good ball, and it's a good header actually,
00:29:38he's unlucky not to score, really good pressure on the ball, when the ball back hides on Calvert-Lewin,
00:29:44Calvert-Lewin just can't get the ball out of his feet, and it's not a great shot, he should do better.
00:29:51Again here, I like this Calvert-Lewin, always occupying the back line, the first pass doesn't come when maybe it should have,
00:29:56but he carries on, he continues to be a threat in the box, really good first touch, and unlucky with the shot,
00:30:02a good save from the keeper, and this is what we know Calvert-Lewin can do, he's good in the air, he's a presence,
00:30:07and then a real good chance and an excellent save, so I think he'll be really happy with the performance today,
00:30:13Daniel Fargo, I think they played well, they created chances, but just weren't clinical enough.
00:30:18Do you think it's just going to come, it's just a matter of time for Calvert-Lewin?
00:30:22Yeah, well I think we all know Don Calvert-Lewin is a very good player, and the biggest issue was
00:30:27being keeping fit, and he started his career at Leeds well, he's getting chances, and if he stays fit,
00:30:35he's a handful for any defender. Okay, thank you for the moment, at next Arsenal,
00:30:39last gasp winners at Newcastle last weekend against West Ham, who've won on each of their
00:30:45last two visits to the Emirates. Robin Cowan is your commentator.
00:30:50A significant milestone marked today for Mikel Arteta, as he takes charge of his 300th game as
00:30:55Arsenal manager. The club is in a much better place since his appointment in 2019, but converting
00:31:01consistent form into major silverware will secure his place as a true Gunners great.
00:31:07Vakayo Saka makes his 200th Premier League appearance, no one has played more times under
00:31:12Mikel Arteta than him. Saliba and Odegaard return to the lineup from the Newcastle victory.
00:31:17West Ham picked up their first points since August with a draw at Everton.
00:31:20Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Vakayo Walker-Peters is the only change from Monday night.
00:31:24Here we go then underway at Emirates Stadium, while Mikel Arteta racks up his 300th game as Arsenal
00:31:33coach. It's game number two for Nuno. The Gunners have faced a different West Ham manager in each of
00:31:39their last four meetings. Lucas Haketa, a dangerous one, and a real chance for Niklas Fulcrouk.
00:31:54David Riot was nowhere near that. Saliba though, was very near to Fulcrouk.
00:31:59Right, to Odegaard.
00:32:05For Jokeres. Falls nicely for Odegaard. And Timber!
00:32:14Had a couple of cracks at it. First one well saved by Areola. A little bit too close to the goalkeeper.
00:32:21He did really well to get himself into that position in the first place.
00:32:24Fulcrouk.
00:32:29In behind for Saka.
00:32:32Gabbard. Or is it? Over the top from Eza.
00:32:37But it looked like Alphonse Areola had extinguished that situation.
00:32:42Beautiful approach play from Arsenal. On the deck, Jokeres couldn't get clean contact.
00:32:48Eza certainly did. Way too clean. That is some miss.
00:32:51Saka.
00:32:57Somerville dispossesses him.
00:32:59Odegaard.
00:33:02In turn tries to win it back. Somerville scurries away.
00:33:06Finds Paqueta.
00:33:11Odegaard looking in a bit of discomfort.
00:33:14A clash of knees.
00:33:15Odegaard wants to try to continue.
00:33:28Rice.
00:33:31Saka nips in!
00:33:32Puts the ball in the net, but the flag is up.
00:33:40Great vision from Rice.
00:33:42Did Saka go a little early? Yes.
00:33:44Just a stride ahead of Juve.
00:33:47It's like this is the end of the afternoon for Martin Odegaard.
00:33:53See the frustration.
00:33:57I just hope that it's not a lengthy layoff for the Arsenal skipper.
00:34:11Juve's header.
00:34:11Saka.
00:34:21Finds Zubamendi.
00:34:23Eza!
00:34:25Terrific save!
00:34:26It's put away by Declan Rice!
00:34:28Half-hearted celebrations from the former Hammer.
00:34:36That was emphatic.
00:34:39The West Ham just couldn't quite get back into their shape quickly enough.
00:34:44Saka showed a lot of strength and awareness to get away from Paqueta.
00:34:50A gorgeous slide-roll pass for Eza.
00:34:52And although Arreola did well to repel Eza's effort, Declan Rice kept his head over it to guide it in.
00:35:00His first of the season.
00:35:01West Ham just couldn't quite hold out.
00:35:06Final minutes of stoppage time.
00:35:09Saka.
00:35:09Top of the shoulder to evade Juve.
00:35:15Timba.
00:35:17Somerville scrambling.
00:35:19Calafiore!
00:35:21Off the post, off the goalkeeper, but off the line.
00:35:25It's pretty desperate from West Ham.
00:35:28Arreola relieved.
00:35:29But although it hit him in the back, he didn't quite have enough legs on it to go over the line.
00:35:35Mavropanos following up.
00:35:45That's a lovely ball over the top from Trossard to find Rice.
00:35:49Missed by Okerez.
00:35:59It's a lovely play.
00:36:02Inches away, Jokerez.
00:36:06Gabrielle Heinzer, new assistant, coming in this season with Mikel Arteta.
00:36:10A conversation together.
00:36:20Supermendy.
00:36:21Picks out Timba.
00:36:24Penalty.
00:36:29Really good ball, and the take from Timba.
00:36:35Went right on the edge.
00:36:38Where was the foul committed?
00:36:40Well, it's been checked and confirmed.
00:36:42And even though the contact started outside, it continued into the penalty area.
00:36:48And so a chance for Arsenal to surely seal the points here.
00:36:52Makao Saka on his 200th Premier League appearance for his boyhood club.
00:36:59Saka.
00:37:03It's 2-0.
00:37:06Beautifully taken.
00:37:08Saka marks a special milestone with another goal.
00:37:12The only other player to score on his 200th Arsenal appearance, Thierry Aubry.
00:37:20I don't know Espirito Santo will try and pick some positives out of this.
00:37:25Clearly, West Ham, still very much a work in progress.
00:37:28Oh, Declan Rice in discomfort.
00:37:34And they've already lost Martin Erdegaard to injury.
00:37:36In this hall.
00:37:44The operas showing good acceleration and strength, but eventually the foul is given.
00:37:49And Walker Peters just got the wrong side.
00:37:58Martinelli.
00:38:00Clipped over the top.
00:38:01Mourinho.
00:38:03Difficult chance that.
00:38:05As routine a win as you're going to get.
00:38:07Arsenal 2, West Ham United 0.
00:38:11I think we dominated before the system to win it.
00:38:14We had periods of a lot of dominance, some big, big chances that we didn't put away.
00:38:19And I was worried because the longer the game went with the three games that we played this week,
00:38:24we could lack some energy.
00:38:25But to be fair, the players that came on contributed to to maintain the standards,
00:38:29another clean sheet, another win.
00:38:30I think we are starting working on things that we consider that are the basics,
00:38:35our organisation, the way we press, being aggressive.
00:38:39Those were things that we've seen, not all the game, but good on that aspect.
00:38:45On the other hand, I think we needed a little bit more
00:38:48of going out to the ball, have a breather.
00:38:50Now is the moment to analyse, but with all the changes that have been going,
00:38:54I think the players are responding, are trying, and this is what pleases me the most.
00:38:58The injury to your captain, can you tell us any more what his state is?
00:39:01Oh, so unlucky again.
00:39:03I think he went to a clash, and I think he went knee to knee,
00:39:07and he felt straight away that something wasn't right.
00:39:09So he looked a bit worried, to be fair.
00:39:12Let's assess him, let's see how bad the injury is,
00:39:15because we had a few already this season.
00:39:18And especially him, that he's been very, very unlucky.
00:39:20Mikel Arteta, I don't know if you know, you've played more games than anyone else
00:39:24under him while he's been head coach, he's used you the most.
00:39:27And I could see even today, he's very demanding of you, isn't he?
00:39:30Just, can you explain your relationship and how you've developed under him?
00:39:34Yeah, Mikel has very much improved my game a lot.
00:39:37I'm very grateful to have him as a coach, and yeah, he's going to keep pushing me,
00:39:42I know that, and yeah, he's going to bring this club some success for sure.
00:39:46So yeah, just looking forward to the day that comes.
00:39:50Well, on Bukayasaka, a little bit of match of the day history here, Wayne,
00:39:53because we're going to show you now a graphic which involves a goal-scoring statistic
00:39:58that doesn't involve Alan Shearer in the Premier League.
00:40:01Don't show her then.
00:40:02Don't worry, it involves you, Wayne.
00:40:05You're just behind Michael Owen, he's top of the pops there,
00:40:08for players with 100 Premier League goal involvements,
00:40:12and how quickly they've got there, how few games they've got there.
00:40:141-5-3 for Michael, 1-8-7 for you, 2-12 for Bukaya.
00:40:19Yeah, I think that clearly shows that Michael was a better player than I was at that age.
00:40:26But no, I think for Saka, he's such an important player for Arsenal,
00:40:29and for England, I think over the last three or four years,
00:40:33he's probably been Arsenal's most important player.
00:40:35He's had a few injuries which has affected them numbers.
00:40:40It would have been even better if that weren't the case, I believe.
00:40:42But yeah, he's such an incredible player.
00:40:44And to him saying there, Bukaya, what it seems to be echoed with a lot of the players,
00:40:48there's a real belief in them this season,
00:40:49and that ended up being quite a straightforward win for them today.
00:40:52But what's interesting, Alan, is the bench and just how much stronger that is.
00:40:56When you have a look at the bench that Arsenal had in their last game against West Ham,
00:41:00which of course was a defeat in February, which was arguably the time
00:41:03when their campaign to win the title got derailed,
00:41:07there's only two players left from that bench in the club.
00:41:10Everybody else has moved on and the replacements or the players who've come in
00:41:13and the strength of that bench today, well, it's night and day.
00:41:16Well, that sums everything up for me,
00:41:18and that's certainly what helped win them the game today.
00:41:21But you're right, I mean, two from the nine, what was it, six or seven months ago,
00:41:24that are just there now.
00:41:26And that is the difference, is that if someone goes off injured,
00:41:29someone of quality comes on, and perhaps that wasn't the case last season.
00:41:34It was certainly the case today when Erdogan had to go off and Zubamendi came on.
00:41:39It was a little bit of a tweak in the midfield.
00:41:41This is how they started off with Eze and Erdogan a little bit further forward,
00:41:46as you'd expect with Declan Rice perhaps just being that little sitter in midfield.
00:41:51And there's nothing wrong with that. He's very, very good at it.
00:41:53And Arsenal were still creating the chances and getting into reasonable forward positions.
00:42:00There was no doubt it was an easy afternoon for them.
00:42:03They made it look easy at times.
00:42:05But just two or three occasions where you can see Declan Rice is just about to become
00:42:10the deeper midfielder there. He doesn't get forward.
00:42:13And Eze gets into that forward position, and he knows he should score,
00:42:17because it's a wonderful opportunity for him.
00:42:19But you can see where Declan Rice is.
00:42:21And I'm just saying that for not the next graphic, but the one after this one.
00:42:25Similar thing again.
00:42:26Look, he's still the one that's trying to pull the strings.
00:42:29He's still the deepest one, and this is eventually a brilliant pass in to Saka.
00:42:34So they were still creating the chances, and he was just offside Saka there.
00:42:39But Odegaard goes off.
00:42:41Zubamendi comes on, and all of a sudden Zubamendi's the one that's sitting.
00:42:46Declan Rice is 15 or 20 yards further forward, and look what happens.
00:42:50He's in the exact same position that Eze was in a few minutes earlier.
00:42:54As he misses, Declan Rice didn't. And he put it in the back of the net, and he gets his goal.
00:42:59Similar thing again, second half. Off he goes. He's brilliant at doing that.
00:43:04I think he's a better player doing that in that position than he is sitting,
00:43:07albeit he can do both jobs equally well. And that is a fantastic ball as well.
00:43:11And when you've got Zubamendi on the ball, and the quality that he brings,
00:43:15he can then place passes into timber just like that.
00:43:20And you can see where Declan Rice and Eze is.
00:43:22Then they get the penalty. So it's just that subtle little change that you're bringing
00:43:27the quality on this season that perhaps you weren't able to do that last season.
00:43:31And that's the difference.
00:43:32And we saw that pass there from Zubamendi, a more orthodox angle.
00:43:35But we've got some new technology, and this allows you to show us what it looks like to the player.
00:43:40Yeah, it's a great new tool, this is, because what it's shown you is the split second.
00:43:45You've got 1.67 seconds, I should say. Zubamendi's got to make up his mind.
00:43:50But what I want to show you there is that little movement to the right-hand side,
00:43:54the step, and he just wants the defender to come with him. And he does there.
00:43:58And then you've got that split second to find that pass, to find the way to pass.
00:44:03And from the player's point of view, yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing,
00:44:06that'll be the last time we see that technology this season.
00:44:08Because it just gives you that idea of how quick, as a player, you've got to think.
00:44:13And then you've got to find the pass.
00:44:15On West Ham, obviously Nuno has now got the international break,
00:44:18to really get stuck into this team. And the next five games, we have a look,
00:44:22this is where we will see his impact, hopefully for us.
00:44:25Yeah, I think we all know what a Nuno team looks like.
00:44:27And I think he'll be happy now for the international break,
00:44:30where he can work with the players who are still left there.
00:44:32I'm sure over the next few weeks, then we'll see West Ham look a little bit different.
00:44:36OK, it's a busy Sunday of Premier League action on tomorrow's March of the Day.
00:44:43What a run this guy is on!
00:44:46The flick on, he's in from Keane!
00:44:49Tandemonium at Palace!
00:44:52Walter Manners header, blasted home by Williams!
00:44:57Oh, what a goal!
00:45:00Zigociago, it's in!
00:45:04Hollands!
00:45:10There's live commentary of all five of those games on BBC Sounds tomorrow.
00:45:14Premier League Sunday starts at midday.
00:45:16Also on Sounds, look out for the Wayne Rooney show.
00:45:19That's available on iPlayer as well.
00:45:20Hugo Echitike is Kelly Summer's latest guest in the football interview.
00:45:25That's next here on BBC One and on iPlayer,
00:45:28where you can also find individual highlights of every Premier League game,
00:45:32along with both Match of the Days, so you can catch up or watch from the start any time.
00:45:37Manchester United were looking to bounce back from last week's defeat at Brentford.
00:45:41Visitors Sunderland have enjoyed the best start for a newly promoted club in 13 years.
00:45:46Conor McNamara was at Old Trafford.
00:45:48Ruben Auro makes five changes from last weekend's defeat at Brentford.
00:45:54The headline news is that Celie Lomens gets his debut.
00:45:57Casemiro is back from suspension.
00:45:59Amand returns after a family bereavement.
00:46:02And with Mateus Cunha on the bench,
00:46:04Mason Mount makes his first start since August.
00:46:07Regis Labris makes two changes from Sunderland's winner for Nottingham Forest.
00:46:11Simona Dindra and Bertrand Traore come in for Dalby and Reg.
00:46:16It's Traore's first start in the Premier League for the club.
00:46:20Now ahead of kickoff, a pause for all those affected by the tragic events in North Manchester
00:46:26on Thursday morning.
00:46:28Both Manchester United and Manchester City in their game tomorrow
00:46:31are wearing identical armbands announcing a City United.
00:46:49in the Premier League for Southampton's total tally by the end of last season.
00:47:12It's a wonderful trickery by Wilson Isidore.
00:47:15Maybe a little space here for Simona Dindra.
00:47:19Early delivery was well anticipated by Bertrand Traore.
00:47:23Three minutes in.
00:47:25What a chance this is on his first Premier League start for the club
00:47:30to get his first Sunderland goal.
00:47:32It should be 1-0.
00:47:35Manchester United have won their last two Premier League home games.
00:47:38Victory today would be the first time in well over two years
00:47:41for them to win three home league games in a row here in Old Trafford.
00:47:48And Boomer.
00:47:52This is Mount and he's controlled it well and he finishes even better.
00:47:57It's only his third Premier League goal ever for Manchester United.
00:48:05Feel the relief for Ruben Amaro.
00:48:08This is just the kind of start he was hoping for today.
00:48:14Mason Mount, one of the five changes in the team today.
00:48:18Took that ever so well.
00:48:19Didn't blast it.
00:48:21Picked his spot.
00:48:22Such a calm finish for Mason Mount.
00:48:25That goal is Mason Mount's first home Premier League goal for Manchester United here.
00:48:34Shishko.
00:48:36Good ball.
00:48:36Ahmad.
00:48:38Red shirts beginning to stream forward in support of Ahmad Diallo here.
00:48:43Good save.
00:48:45Robin Roofs who's been making miraculous saves for Sunderland all season.
00:48:50Stretching there to deny Ahmad his first goal of this campaign.
00:48:56Days like this you do wonder what a difficult job it is on the Manchester Tourism Board.
00:49:01You don't come here for the weather.
00:49:05Boomer spins away from Siddiqui.
00:49:08That was a nice little manoeuvre.
00:49:10Ahmad as the rain begins to fall heavy again at Old Trafford.
00:49:14And Boomer just a steady himself denied by Roofs again.
00:49:20It's quite a long way out but there was spin and bend on that.
00:49:24Good save from Robin Roofs.
00:49:27And Boomer.
00:49:30A little bit of a spin away from Siddiqui.
00:49:32It's not a bad ball in.
00:49:33Just too high for Shishko.
00:49:35Dallas should have controlled better.
00:49:37Here's Mount.
00:49:39Bruno Fernandes.
00:49:40And he goes for the top corner.
00:49:42What a save from Roofs.
00:49:43And Ahmad unable to follow up.
00:49:45But Mason Mount couldn't get a touch either.
00:49:48That is agonizingly close for Bruno Fernandes.
00:49:52But what an extension of his arm from Robin Roofs to push this onto the frame of the goal.
00:49:59This is a really good save.
00:50:03Semiro here releasing Ahmad.
00:50:04Yoro's made a good run inside of him.
00:50:06This is Leni Yoro.
00:50:08Shaka did well to get back into the position to block.
00:50:15Worked really hard there Kralitshaka.
00:50:18Diego Delo who is playing left wing back today has gone over to the right hand side for this throw.
00:50:23Distance and it's Shishko and it's in for Manchester United.
00:50:31And the long throw from Diogo Delo reaps the dividends as Benjamin Shishko scores his first goal for Manchester United here at Old Trafford.
00:50:44Long throws which have been so in vogue in the Premier League since the start of the campaign.
00:50:50And Ruth Wan makes it 2-0.
00:50:53Good anticipation by Shishko.
00:50:56Manchester United to Sunderland 0.
00:51:03Could Sunderland get one back ahead of half time?
00:51:06A chance to look up for Kralitshaka.
00:51:10And that is the first save from Manchester United from Salah Lemons.
00:51:15He's caught that well Kralitshaka.
00:51:17The gun by Hume.
00:51:22No chances taken by De Ligt.
00:51:27The driving rain thunders down on top of the Old Trafford pitch again.
00:51:32Lord Mukiel to take the throw.
00:51:35Oh Shishko with a high leg.
00:51:39And it's Hume who went down.
00:51:40Sunderland fans are screaming for a penalty here.
00:51:43And the video assistant referee is going to take a look at this.
00:51:48High leg but I don't think there's a connection with the head of Trahume is there?
00:51:55So the referee having consulted with the assistant referee has now given the penalty.
00:52:02Now this has not yet been approved by V.A. Or.
00:52:06But video assistant referee will still be looking at the replays here to see if that is the correct on-field decision.
00:52:14And it is no surprise to hear that V.A. Or Neil Davis is going to ask Stuart Atwell to come across and have a look at this for himself.
00:52:22The line of sight for the assistant.
00:52:24You could see why he would think that boot might have connected with the head.
00:52:28But that angle we can see shows it doesn't.
00:52:32To some deliberation.
00:52:34Here is the views of Stuart Atwell.
00:52:38There is no foul by the Manchester United player.
00:52:41He does not make contact.
00:52:42No foul by the Manchester United player.
00:52:45No penalty to Sunderland.
00:52:48That could have been a way back into the match for the visitors.
00:52:53So Alex Ferguson enjoying his cup of tea for the second half.
00:52:57Feels rare for Manchester United to have such comfort here leading the game.
00:53:02Long clearance from Roof.
00:53:04Traore a pursuit.
00:53:07Keeper came out and didn't get there.
00:53:09And Traore is down.
00:53:10Now any collision was outside the penalty area I think.
00:53:14The referee says that it was simulation.
00:53:17It's a yellow card for Bertrand Traore for diving.
00:53:22Goalkeeper is nowhere near it.
00:53:24Does look like there's a touch from Bruno Fernandes.
00:53:28Bertrand Traore feels he's been very hard done by there.
00:53:31Siddiqui.
00:53:40Mayenda gets away from Luke Shaw.
00:53:44Mayenda unselfish.
00:53:45Charlton straight at the keeper.
00:53:47Charlene Evans with a big moment towards a clean sheet on his debut here.
00:53:57Hopefully better tonight than he did last weekend going into the international break.
00:54:02This will be of big comfort for Ruben Amrit.
00:54:06Today was not a perfect performance.
00:54:08We had our moments but we were competitive and really focused during the game.
00:54:13I think Senné did really well also.
00:54:17So we were a competitive and an adult team today.
00:54:22And we need to win these kind of games with clean sheets.
00:54:25It was good for us.
00:54:26We didn't start well and we get punished quickly.
00:54:31Yeah, a bit disappointing because I think we had a good ambition here.
00:54:36And we are still a young team with not much experience together.
00:54:41So we need the ups and downs.
00:54:44And obviously we don't want to be too negative when we lose.
00:54:51But it's a strong reminder because this league is really demanding.
00:54:55And it's a good lesson today.
00:54:57Three home Premier League wins in a row.
00:54:59It's the first time in over two years that that's happened at the club.
00:55:01That feels a good base now to build on.
00:55:04Yeah, it's really important.
00:55:06But at the same time it's frustrating not to have this kind of performance again.
00:55:11It's nothing to do with playing well.
00:55:13It's this kind of performance at home.
00:55:15We need to do that away also because it's our responsibility to play like this.
00:55:20Wayne, a couple of tactical tweaks today from Ruben Ameren that really paid dividends.
00:55:25Yeah, I thought it was a really good, important win.
00:55:28But what I really liked was he simplified the game for the players.
00:55:33And Bueno was getting a lot closer to Sesco, which I think really helped Manchester United.
00:55:39Especially in the first 30 minutes, someone struggled to deal with it.
00:55:42So if we watch here, Manchester United are in good shape.
00:55:46And Bueno and Sesco were never really too far away from each other when Manchester United were attacking.
00:55:51And then what this means is because they're close to each other, the three Sunderland defenders here closest to him have to stay with them.
00:56:00And then that frees up the space for Ahmed to get at the Sunderland fullback in a 1v1 situation.
00:56:08And now they're both in the box, both ready to try and get a sniffer of a goal.
00:56:13And it doesn't pay off this time, but the intentions were there right from the start.
00:56:17Not on special, long ball up to Sesco, who I think does this really well.
00:56:21And Bruno making the run in behind, as we've seen against Chelsea when Sanchez got sent off.
00:56:26And I think this caused some problems all afternoon.
00:56:30Again here, but now it's a little bit different.
00:56:32Mason Mount getting around Sesco.
00:56:34It's a little bit scruffy, and it looks a little bit scruffy, but it's causing Tulland problems.
00:56:39Sesco gets the ball, gets the ball in a good area to En Bruno, and he should do better with the finish.
00:56:44And then Cunha comes on, and nothing changes.
00:56:46Ball up to Sesco. Cunha running in behind.
00:56:49Sesco doesn't even touch the ball.
00:56:51He gets a 1v1 and an opportunity to score a goal.
00:56:53So I think it's a subtle change, which Amarone made today, but I think it was the right one.
00:56:59It was clever, and Tulland really struggled to cope with it, especially the first 30 minutes.
00:57:03This game had everything that you'd think, do you throw a new goalkeeper into it?
00:57:08Because from a drama point of view, it could have all gone horribly wrong, couldn't it?
00:57:11They're under enormous pressure, Manchester United.
00:57:13Sunderland coming on the back of a really good start to the season.
00:57:16You throw a 23-year-old in for his debut.
00:57:19And obviously, he's come with a great reputation from Antwerp, the Belgian goalkeeper.
00:57:23But he stood up to that challenge today.
00:57:25Yeah, it was a big decision, and I think it's difficult to be the goalkeeper of Manchester United.
00:57:30But I thought it's done really well for the majority of the game.
00:57:33And I think you see early on here, not on crazy, getting rid of the ball and it puts Manchester United on the attack.
00:57:42And when you want your goalkeeper to make a save, he's in a good position.
00:57:45He sees the ball and makes a save he probably should make.
00:57:49And this was the one hiccup he had in the game where he makes the wrong decision.
00:57:54He comes out, and on another day, it could cost him and Manchester United.
00:57:59But I thought, in the main, he's done a lot of good things.
00:58:01He had five minutes to go.
00:58:02He makes a good save, which stopped him from being a nervous five minutes.
00:58:06And then what everyone wants, when the ball goes in your box, you want a keeper who can come and command, catch the ball.
00:58:12And I thought it was a good, solid day before him.
00:58:14And, of course, pockets of the crowd shouting, are you Schmeichel in disguise, won't have harmed his confidence, will it, today?
00:58:20Yeah, I think we all hope he can be the next Peter Schmeichel.
00:58:24And just briefly, Amarim saying that this was an adult performance today.
00:58:28Probably mature, I think he means.
00:58:29Certainly in the first 30 minutes.
00:58:31It was a more even game when Sunderland matched them up and changed their system.
00:58:34Sunderland were a much better team and were more competitive then.
00:58:38But it was a huge win for Man United.
00:58:40OK, so last night now, and Bournemouth took on Fulham.
00:58:43Jonathan Pearce was at the Vitality.
00:58:47On a wild, wet, windy night, Bournemouth make three changes from the draw at Leeds.
00:58:52James Hill, Alex Scott and David Brits come in.
00:58:55Alex Jimenez, Ryan Christie and Amin Adley go to the bench as they look to protect their five-league match unbeaten run.
00:59:01Willem have no recognised centre-forwards in the side, with Raul Jimenez failing to recover from injury and defeat at Villa.
00:59:07And Rodrigo Munoz still sidelined.
00:59:09Issa Diop adds to their defensive strength, they're only changed.
00:59:12They've only had one day, really, to work out a new system.
00:59:18A filthy night.
00:59:20The rain is cascading down.
00:59:22It's being blown all around the ground by a howling wind.
00:59:25Bournemouth is all the early possession.
00:59:30Tavenier, here's Semenho.
00:59:33Really is all Bournemouth.
00:59:35They haven't got out of the traps at the moment.
00:59:39They're back to Wilson, in trouble.
00:59:42Adams with the shots!
00:59:43And the keeper needed to save it.
00:59:47Ten minutes gone.
00:59:48And that's the closest we've come to a goal.
00:59:51They don't have to stretch to save.
00:59:53Listen to that win.
00:59:58That's the elements.
00:59:59Not me.
01:00:03They might have a better spell, but they haven't really looked like scoring, neither is the home side.
01:00:08Here's Truffert.
01:00:11Anderson away to Semenho.
01:00:12Oh, he tested a goalkeeper.
01:00:15He spilt it.
01:00:17There's an appeal for a penalty.
01:00:19And there's an offside flag raised against Evan Nilsson.
01:00:27Really is an awkward night for goalkeepers.
01:00:29Semenho's got a lot of power behind the shot.
01:00:31Good effort here.
01:00:34We're on to on Semenho.
01:00:36No question of it being a penalty, by the way.
01:00:44Here's Brooks.
01:00:45Take on Sessegnor.
01:00:47And did well.
01:00:48Gets the cross in.
01:00:48Fine defending by Castagne.
01:00:51Sessegnor's just got his body shape wrong there.
01:00:53So Brooks could take him on on the outside.
01:00:56Deft cross.
01:00:57Hitted away.
01:01:01Sessegnor comes into the far post.
01:01:03It's aimed in that area.
01:01:04And Laino really had to stretch.
01:01:06Wynick goes from Evan Nilsson.
01:01:08That was arcing wickedly goalwards.
01:01:11Laino just got there.
01:01:12Whatever cover you can get, use it.
01:01:17That doesn't look the safest, does it?
01:01:19Tight.
01:01:21Competitive.
01:01:22Far from a classic.
01:01:24Here's Iwobi.
01:01:26Right ahead of him from Wilson.
01:01:27He's crept in here.
01:01:28Gets a shot away.
01:01:29Good save.
01:01:30That's the best we've seen from Fulham.
01:01:33Good movement from Harry Wilson.
01:01:36Found well by Iwobi.
01:01:37Had a look round the corner.
01:01:38And then tested Petrovic.
01:01:42Sessegnor.
01:01:47Chance for Cukwesi.
01:01:49There's an opportunity for Sessegnor.
01:01:51And Fulham were ahead.
01:01:52And they worked out really well.
01:01:551-0 to Fulham.
01:01:5869 minutes into the game.
01:02:01Took it brilliantly.
01:02:02Beyond Petrovic.
01:02:05It's a purposeful run by him.
01:02:07Carried on the run.
01:02:08It's a lovely weighted pass back to him.
01:02:10And a super finish.
01:02:11And it's Bournemouth 0 and Fulham 1.
01:02:15And then will this be Bournemouth's first home defeat in four league games.
01:02:21Unbeaten here this season.
01:02:22His home will be.
01:02:24Fulham can't hold a lead again.
01:02:26The Cottings have lost four of their last seven league games when scoring the opener.
01:02:30Sessegnor.
01:02:33Sessegnor.
01:02:35Two in the middle to hit.
01:02:37Takes the extra stride.
01:02:38He's a brilliant goal!
01:02:39What a goal!
01:02:42What a fantastic equaliser.
01:02:45For the man of the moment.
01:02:48In the rare for nine minutes.
01:02:51He just wouldn't give it up, would he?
01:02:52Picked it up wide.
01:02:56Drove at Castagna.
01:02:57Took the extra stride and beat him.
01:03:00Oh, through the goalkeeper's legs.
01:03:04No wonder Bert Laino looks horrified.
01:03:06Delight for Antoine Semenya.
01:03:08Semenya switching away to Ben Doak.
01:03:15Still available.
01:03:17Klaibert.
01:03:18For them drawing them behind the ball.
01:03:20Klaibert will go for a spectacular winner!
01:03:23What a turnaround!
01:03:26From 1-0 down after 69 minutes.
01:03:29All of a sudden, it's 2-1 to Bournemouth.
01:03:32Two goals in the last five for them.
01:03:36There's a thunderous stride.
01:03:39Feared one way and the other.
01:03:40There was the gap.
01:03:41He saw it.
01:03:43And thundered home.
01:03:44Bournemouth two.
01:03:45Full and one.
01:03:47And a goal worthy of winning any football match.
01:03:57Chikwesey with the wriggle.
01:04:00Turned by Sessegnon.
01:04:01Helped on.
01:04:03And Kearney was in there and the effort was blocked.
01:04:06As they forage for an equaliser.
01:04:09Get something out of the game.
01:04:13In comes the corner kick.
01:04:15Nisifenn in the goalkeeper.
01:04:16Got it wrong.
01:04:17Punched it down.
01:04:17Petrovic.
01:04:18You know, here's a break on Kluivert all the way through.
01:04:22Can they wrap it up here?
01:04:24Here's a chance for Dirk.
01:04:26Looks up players to his left-hand side.
01:04:28To Menno.
01:04:29Coming in!
01:04:29There's a wonderful spell.
01:04:33And Bournemouth has scored three goals in 26 minutes to seal the deal.
01:04:44One of the Premier League's best players this season so far.
01:04:49Precise pass.
01:04:50And tucked out.
01:04:52With such confidence by Antoine Semenya.
01:04:56He has two.
01:04:57Bournemouth have three.
01:04:58And it's three points for the Cherries.
01:05:00A strange game because, especially in the first half, not a lot of things have happened.
01:05:09It was quite tactical.
01:05:10They were quite well set defensively.
01:05:13And we were having a little bit more of the ball, but not arriving clearly.
01:05:16And when the game goes like this, you think, if you can set earlier, the first goal is going
01:05:22to be difficult.
01:05:23But luckily for us, we had obviously to risk.
01:05:27But I would give merit to the players, because we've scored really nice goals.
01:05:32And what I can say is that after in two individual moments, I decided the game.
01:05:36That is the reality, of course, looking for the first one.
01:05:40When you have two against one on the side, you should be much stronger in that moment.
01:05:44And after a goal from 25 yards from Justin, decided the game when I believe that second
01:05:50half was completely much more for ourselves.
01:05:52What drama.
01:05:53Yeah, it was a bit of a dull first half.
01:05:55But I think going in at a half, the managers have said, take as many shots as we can, expose
01:06:00them on the transition.
01:06:02And, yeah, obviously we conceded, which was frustrating.
01:06:04But we knew we'll get some chances again.
01:06:06So it's just building up, building up.
01:06:08And then the space opened up on the byline for me.
01:06:10And I looked up and I seen there was no options there.
01:06:13So my next thought process was, yeah, for the keeper's legs, it was executed perfectly.
01:06:17The win came from that point onwards.
01:06:20Well, for a team that was supposed to struggle, because they'd lost so many,
01:06:22big players, hadn't they, in the transfer window.
01:06:25It is their best start ever to a Premier League season, Bournemouth.
01:06:27And Semenya just keeps on impressing.
01:06:29Not for the first, and it won't be the last time we talk about him, because he's having
01:06:33a brilliant time.
01:06:35And we saw him first day of the season, didn't we, getting to it.
01:06:37Anfield against Liverpool, and his stats are off the charts, really.
01:06:41And every time the ball gets to him, you can just feel and hear the excitement, because
01:06:46people are expecting something special.
01:06:49And they got it last night again.
01:06:51The way he goes past players, he finds himself in that position.
01:06:56And the way he runs at defenders, an absolute nightmare.
01:06:59Defenders hate that when wingers, with a bit of trickery, do that and can finish it off.
01:07:04I mean, some of the positions he got himself into, you're about to see an incredible piece
01:07:10of skill here.
01:07:10I mean, he's spreading and making the pitch big there, but the way he goes past Castagne
01:07:16here, I mean, he leaves him for dead, doesn't he, just there.
01:07:19And there's nothing on for him.
01:07:21Or so the defenders think.
01:07:23And then he just, he sticks it through the goalkeeper's legs.
01:07:25It's an incredible piece of skill and a fantastic goal.
01:07:28And he's got six goals this season.
01:07:30He's going to get more.
01:07:31He's full of confidence.
01:07:32And he starts, this is the last minute, he starts in his own box.
01:07:35Look at the hunger to get on the end of this.
01:07:38And he gets his reward.
01:07:39I mean, I know he's signed a new contract in the summer, but unfortunately for Bournemouth
01:07:43fans, there's going to be bigger clubs coming in as they have been for some of their top
01:07:48players, as we've seen this season.
01:07:50And I mean, this, this we have to make the point.
01:07:52This is not just Bournemouth.
01:07:54This is the whole of the league.
01:07:56Since last August.
01:07:57Since last August.
01:07:58I mean, that tells you how impressive he is and has been.
01:08:03And I think he's only going to get better and been magnificent.
01:08:06He has indeed.
01:08:07Now, before we go, let's take a little look at the Premier League table.
01:08:11And, well, Arsenal are the new leaders, with Liverpool dropping to second, a point behind
01:08:15the Gunners.
01:08:15Tottenham and Bournemouth complete the top four.
01:08:17Chelsea rise to six.
01:08:18Manchester United move into the top half.
01:08:20West Ham stay second bottom with four points, which is their joint lowest total at the stage
01:08:24of a season.
01:08:25Elsewhere, Leeds fall one place to 13th.
01:08:27A big thank you to Alan and to Wayne.
01:08:30It's early days, but Arsenal have the edge and Liverpool for now have been knocked off their
01:08:33perch.
01:08:34Esther, wow.
01:08:35Good night.
