00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:01:00Joe Hart and Theo Walcott are the gifts that keep on giving, or at least they better be this evening.
00:01:05Off the back of an important midweek Champions League win against Real Madrid,
00:01:09Manchester City travelled to fifth place Crystal Palace, having won five of their last six in the Premier League.
00:01:15Steve Wilson was there.
00:01:19Palace may have beaten City at Wembley 211 days ago, but they haven't beaten City here in 10 years.
00:01:26Given their current form, they just might be backing themselves today, especially with some good news from the treatment room.
00:01:33Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta both start.
00:01:37Sarr having recovered from an ankle injury, Mateta's been past fit after a knee issue.
00:01:42Eddie Enquetia sits out.
00:01:44City's Jeremy Dock, who is missing with a leg injury, Reinders comes in.
00:01:48That's the only change from the win in Madrid and the victory over Sunderland.
00:01:58Adam Wharton.
00:02:01Clipped over the top beautifully.
00:02:03This is a big chance and it's hit the bar.
00:02:06Pino against the woodwork.
00:02:07A huge opportunity.
00:02:11Well, he may just, had it gone in the back of the net, have found himself having it ruled out for offside.
00:02:18It would have been very, very tight.
00:02:21Big opportunity.
00:02:24Well, it's been an exceptional season to this point.
00:02:27They've made so few changes.
00:02:31Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner.
00:02:33Working with a very, very tight squad, but doing it superbly well.
00:02:40Kamada has done really well.
00:02:42Threads a lovely ball into Ismaila Sarr here.
00:02:45Sarr!
00:02:47Well, flashing across the face of Donnarumma before Jean-Philippe Mateta could arrive.
00:02:54Just unable to combine with Mateta.
00:02:57But promising again for Oliver Glasner's side.
00:03:03Guardiola.
00:03:08Nico Gonzalez.
00:03:13Well, actually he's given it.
00:03:19Well, I think you could argue that Richards was really just holding his ground there, which you are entitled to do.
00:03:25Cherky looks keen here.
00:03:27Oh, it's Foden.
00:03:29Oh, it's pushed around by Henderson.
00:03:31It's still in play.
00:03:32Reinders.
00:03:32And the flag has gone up.
00:03:35Well, trying to catch Henderson out at his near post.
00:03:39Reinders was offside when the ball came back to him.
00:03:41That's why the flag went up.
00:03:43Had this gone in, it would have counted.
00:03:45I don't actually think it was on target from Phil Foden.
00:03:48The England manager tucking into a nice little bag of Sunday afternoon sweets.
00:03:55doesn't like licorice ones by the look of it.
00:03:58That's why the flag is on target.
00:04:00Mattias Nunez for Manchester City.
00:04:04everyone in that final third of the field apart from Donnarumma as Nico Gonzalez
00:04:10finds Matthias Nunez and Bernardo Silva Nunez to the delivery Haaland with a header brilliant
00:04:23well it's a really good delivery and before it was even on the head of Erling Haaland
00:04:29you knew what was going to happen Erling Haaland gives Manchester City the lead
00:04:35well it's half in which he hasn't featured a lot but that doesn't matter because when he
00:04:42needs to feature no one does it better it's a fantastic header from Erling Haaland absolutely
00:04:49textbook Pino here oh he's found a little gap Pino Mateta
00:04:55Donnarumma came out made contact
00:05:01well VAL Matt Donoghue's had a look and no penalty there
00:05:04Clipped by Richards tidily and well watched Ruben Diaz O'Reilly can find Foden
00:05:24Nico Gonzalez not sure that was a good decision he's lost it and Wharton and that's twice they've hit the woodwork
00:05:32well Nico Gonzalez will be a very relieved man here that was a poor decision
00:05:39was always going to be put under pressure it's a good strike by Wharton in the end
00:05:44but hit the woodwork not the net more frustration for the home side
00:05:48looks like they're on the brink of agreeing about whatever it is they're discussing
00:06:02Foden nicely done and here goes Tiziani Reinders that's a good save by Henderson
00:06:10well Reinders here ignored the onrushing Haaland to his left-hand side that's a good save by Henderson
00:06:32oh
00:06:36Cherky that's a really good break
00:06:39Wharton just caught him but he went on and Phil Foden scores brilliantly
00:06:43oh boy he's hit a rich vein of form six in his last four now
00:06:53Cherky does ever so well
00:06:57and Foden
00:06:58checks his angles
00:07:02checks his rangefinder
00:07:04and sweeps it beyond Henderson
00:07:07two absolutely clinical goals
00:07:11from two fantastic footballers
00:07:14but you've got to feel for him really Crystal Palace have done so much so well today and yet they have not tested Donnarumma
00:07:21Ismail Assar
00:07:24Pino, Hughes, Wharton
00:07:32Cross
00:07:33and a great header from Guardiol but it's Sarr
00:07:36onto O'Reilly
00:07:38not sure who Will Hughes shot hit
00:07:43Ismail Assar blocked by Guardiol
00:07:45well this was threatening again
00:07:50Will Hughes shot
00:07:52it's a good block this
00:07:58Richards
00:08:03and Ketya
00:08:05Eddie and Ketya that's a good hit
00:08:08well finally someone has stung the palms of Joan Luigi Donnarumma
00:08:13and it's Eddie and Ketya
00:08:16Will Hughes
00:08:17nice
00:08:18Hughes ball in and Ketya climbing
00:08:20beaten in the air
00:08:22by O'Reilly and a slip from Tyreek Mitchell
00:08:25and here goes Savinho
00:08:27Henderson backpedaling
00:08:29Savinho
00:08:31and that's a penalty
00:08:33well you don't even need the referee to give that
00:08:36Henderson is
00:08:37contesting the decision
00:08:39well the
00:08:42slip
00:08:43from
00:08:44Palace was really unfortunate
00:08:46and Savinho
00:08:47accelerated away
00:08:49Dean Henderson is claiming that's not a penalty
00:08:52but I don't think
00:08:53he has a leg to stand on
00:08:55and once he got hold of Savinho
00:08:57neither did the Brazilian
00:08:59Haaland
00:09:07missed his only Premier League penalty this season
00:09:10but scores that one
00:09:12Crystal Palace 0
00:09:13Manchester City 3
00:09:14and Haaland has two of them
00:09:22not even a hint of doubt
00:09:28well perfection is hard to achieve
00:09:30but he won't stop aspiring for it for his team
00:09:36I just want to ask you about Phil Foden
00:09:38he's in a terrific vein of form at the moment
00:09:40I mean scoring goals
00:09:41assists everything is there
00:09:42yeah it is
00:09:43today he didn't do a good game
00:09:45today he didn't play good
00:09:47he lost a lot of balls
00:09:48he was so in a rush in every action
00:09:51and Phil has to be with the one tempo
00:09:52had to play more calm
00:09:54keep the ball
00:09:54pass the ball
00:09:55and in the right moment
00:09:56make a change the gear
00:09:58but at the end
00:09:59we said many times
00:10:00he's so young
00:10:01so at the end had Margie to improve
00:10:02he listened
00:10:04and I think
00:10:05yeah
00:10:06saying that
00:10:07he's been doing an incredible terrific season
00:10:10yeah it's a good thing that he said that
00:10:12because I agree with him myself
00:10:14I knew I could have done a lot better today
00:10:15but
00:10:17yeah that's the standard I set myself
00:10:19and so does he
00:10:20so yeah he knows there's more to come from me
00:10:22and hopefully I can get to there
00:10:23it feels
00:10:24a little bit wrong
00:10:26but we have to accept it
00:10:27this is how big games are decided
00:10:29there was small margins
00:10:30and I think City was better inside the boxes
00:10:34yeah
00:10:34and we're having 16 to 7 shots at the end
00:10:38but losing 3-0
00:10:39yeah it's a tough moment
00:10:40but I think the performance today to be honest
00:10:42was better than in the cup final
00:10:45and we will come to that Palace performance
00:10:48because there was a lot to like about it from from their point of view
00:10:51Manchester City had to show real resilience
00:10:53that's what Pep Guardiola talked about after the game
00:10:56in order to to get the win
00:10:57yeah 3-0 on paper
00:10:58but that certainly doesn't tell the full story
00:11:01Man City really had to earn it today
00:11:02Sellers Park is such a tough place to go
00:11:05and they had to really stick there to get
00:11:06they went toe-to-toe Palace from the off
00:11:08you'll see the press here
00:11:10Pino getting their head down
00:11:11sending them back
00:11:12Mateto following it up
00:11:14City didn't really have anywhere to go
00:11:15and once they do they turn it over quite easily
00:11:18and then you've got that battle
00:11:19you've got Mateto
00:11:20he's occupying Diaz
00:11:22Saar's going to come in with Guardiola
00:11:25ball bobbling around
00:11:26but that's fine
00:11:27in the Premier League
00:11:27Palace are a good team
00:11:28you've got to get bodies around
00:11:29you've got to get people putting their bodies on the line
00:11:31making it as difficult as they possibly can
00:11:34now Palace had a lot of half chances in the first half
00:11:36here high line from City
00:11:38Nunes starting to learn how to play that right back position
00:11:40you can rely on him
00:11:42I think when we watched the game live
00:11:43we thought this was a really good chance
00:11:45but probably would have been ruled out
00:11:47cut for offside
00:11:48so Palace's best chance would have been offside
00:11:51so that's not a problem
00:11:52but the point is they kept getting chances through the lines
00:11:54looks up
00:11:55Palace are a quality team
00:11:56picks out Saar
00:11:57Gavalliol doesn't panic
00:11:59O'Reilly gets himself back in
00:12:01Saar ends up running out of space
00:12:02it's almost a shot cross
00:12:03doesn't really come to anything
00:12:06see it again
00:12:06Wharton getting his head up
00:12:08great line from Manchester City
00:12:10again good confidence in it
00:12:11they know they can play that line
00:12:12like I say people like Nunes who's not necessarily a defender
00:12:15he's learning how to play in that role
00:12:17and that's the thing when you get these chances
00:12:19but up the other end
00:12:20that's why they dig in
00:12:21that's why they do these defensive duties
00:12:23because they know they've got quality to hurt
00:12:26look at that
00:12:26Harland has barely touched the ball
00:12:28it's not a story anymore
00:12:29back peddling
00:12:30back across goal
00:12:31unbelievable finish
00:12:33so important for his team
00:12:34and even Tiki Taki loves a bullet header every now and again
00:12:38and then Nunes like I say defensively good
00:12:40nicking it getting on that front foot
00:12:42the game wasn't really going anywhere
00:12:44it was very much in the balance
00:12:46and we just heard him talking about Phil Foden
00:12:48wasn't necessarily as involved as he'd like to be
00:12:50but my goodness me
00:12:51the vein of form he's in at the moment
00:12:53the way he's able to shoot from 22 yards is a killer
00:12:57late on in the game like I say 2-0 Palace pushing
00:13:00that is what you want coming off your bench
00:13:02Savino definitely warmed up didn't he
00:13:0480 yard run
00:13:05has the presence of mind to go around Dean Henderson
00:13:08earn his team a penalty
00:13:10the rest we don't have to talk about do we
00:13:12look see his celebration
00:13:13he's bored of scoring now
00:13:14scoring's boring
00:13:15scoring is boring for Harland
00:13:18look on Phil Foden
00:13:20his numbers have been fantastic over the last few games Theo
00:13:23but Pep Guardiola was critical of his overall performance
00:13:26and said he was rushing a bit
00:13:27Foden agreed with him
00:13:28this wasn't a wake-up call comment that he was making in the media
00:13:32this is clearly something that they've
00:13:34they've talked about and we saw them at the at the end of the game together
00:13:36yeah it was constructive criticism I felt and
00:13:39he recognizes the standard that
00:13:41Phil Foden brought to the Premier last year
00:13:43winning obviously the PFA Player of the Year
00:13:45that's what he expects and
00:13:47you know we're not savvy to it on a day-to-day basis
00:13:49but he sees what he does
00:13:50but on the match day it's where he really wants to perform
00:13:52and look for us he's playing fantastically well
00:13:54but for Pep right now it's not quite the standard what he wants
00:13:56but look if you're still scoring performing well and scoring goals
00:13:59look there's a lot more to come from Foden if that's the case
00:14:02because that's gonna be scary for Arsenal as well
00:14:03Palace don't have a good record against Manchester City
00:14:07but on the evidence of of this game
00:14:09there's a lot to back up Oliver Glasner's claim
00:14:11that this was even better than the the performance in the FA Cup final
00:14:15which Crystal Palace won because they did manage to get through
00:14:19and they did manage to create those those big chances
00:14:21they were excellent like I say and that's that's credit to Manchester City's performance today
00:14:26having to go that extra that extra note defending really well
00:14:30Palace look really good they look really organized this season
00:14:33they're a real threat especially in the first half of games
00:14:36City weathered that storm and then as we talked about that quality
00:14:39Harland and Foden deadly
00:14:42yeah makes that win all the more impressive from Manchester City
00:14:45now Aston Villa are now firmly in the mix for the title
00:14:48after winning nine of their last 10 Premier League games
00:14:51they made the journey to London to face a West Ham side
00:14:54who've gone four without a win commentary comes from John Rhoda
00:15:00Sir Trevor Brookings and Alvin Martin accompanied by Billy Bond's daughters Claire and Katie
00:15:06lead today's tributes to the legendary former player and manager
00:15:09who is remembered by the West Ham faithful ahead of kickoff
00:15:18Alphonse Areola hasn't kept a clean sheet in the Premier League this season
00:15:25Freddy Potts and Sanguta Magasa come in as Nuno Espirito Santo makes two changes
00:15:30Marco Bizot starts in goal for Villa with Emi Martinez ruled out because of a back problem
00:15:36Victor Lindelof makes his first Premier League start for Villa with Pau Torres also not involved
00:15:41Villa won 2-1 here on the opening day of last season
00:15:48West Ham with 13 points from their 15 matches so far
00:15:52get us underway against an in-form Aston Villa team 30 points from their 15 games
00:15:59Villa in their change colours this afternoon of the white shirts picked up by camera
00:16:11Konza, camera again, West Ham really pressing in the opening exchanges and they might be in here
00:16:19and they've scored inside the opening minute West Ham are in front what a start for the Hammers
00:16:29Esri Konza caught in possession Marco Bezos beaten and West Ham are in front through Matthias Fernandes
00:16:41Konza trying to play it out of defence here dispossessed by Fernandes and what a perfectly
00:16:49placed shot around Bizot into the back of the net and an outstanding start for West Ham dreadful for
00:16:56Aston Villa West Ham one Aston Villa nil cash
00:17:02towards Watkins
00:17:08Villa are level might that go down though as an own goal
00:17:17McGinn's ball in Watkins going for the ball
00:17:21and Mavro Panas is the unfortunate defender who turns it past Areola
00:17:25what a start West Ham one Aston Villa one
00:17:32Fernandes the goal scorer
00:17:39look at that looking for Juve terrific run in behind appeals for a penalty as it strikes cash
00:17:46Anthony Taylor was in a good position
00:17:49it's away by Konza not too far and the shot is deflected in
00:17:55final touch from Bowen West Ham in front for a second time
00:18:02they are are checking to see whether there may be a possible offside here against Juve
00:18:08you see Anthony Taylor's position there he says play on
00:18:15Ponza's half clearance Bowen diverting it past Bizot
00:18:21the check has been completed and the goal stands and the West Ham captain gets his fifth goal of the
00:18:28season West Ham two Aston Villa one here's cash
00:18:33a bit of space here for Morgan Rogers
00:18:39looking to curl it into the top corner and he wasn't too far away
00:18:42soon as Rogers picks up the ball here you can see his intentions and Aston Villa still behind
00:18:52Juve
00:18:54McGinn
00:18:55camera finds Tielemans Watkins and Rogers in the middle it's towards Morgan Rogers it's 2-2
00:19:06Aston Villa equalized for the second time this afternoon at the London stadium and this time it is Morgan Rogers
00:19:18space here for Tielemans Watkins can't get on the end of it Rogers most certainly can
00:19:25his fourth goal of the season and all four have come in wins away from Villa Park
00:19:31is that an omen for today
00:19:41Mattson comes away with it
00:19:45Watkins with the touch
00:19:46McKinn was the target for that pass couldn't be found
00:19:52Marlon his first involvement
00:19:56Marlon punched away by Areola
00:20:02and West Ham might break it
00:20:04it's a free kick to Aston Villa and you can hear the reaction from the West Ham supporters
00:20:11areola perhaps the touch fortunate that it fell there too to Debo
00:20:25to Debo
00:20:25Fernandes
00:20:33back at that Bowen
00:20:36it's a third goal for West Ham but the flag is up on the far side
00:20:41the assistance flag raised very quickly on the far side
00:20:48it is a close one
00:20:50as the ball is played through
00:20:52but the check has been made and it has been ruled out
00:20:56his despair would soon change so it remains 2-2
00:21:04Fernandes
00:21:06Somerville
00:21:08Bowen
00:21:09couldn't quite turn
00:21:10Somerville
00:21:12able to get the shot away
00:21:14unable to find the target for West Ham
00:21:16quite kindly there for Crescensio Somerville
00:21:26McGinn
00:21:32Rogers
00:21:46Lindelof
00:21:48bit of space here for Morgan Rogers
00:21:50might have a go at goal
00:21:51and it's a brilliant strike as well
00:21:54Aston Villa in front for the first time this afternoon
00:21:58and it's the second goal for Morgan Rogers
00:22:011-0 down
00:22:022-1 down
00:22:04now 3-2 up
00:22:09Lindelof's pass
00:22:11finding Rogers in a lot of space
00:22:13and how about that for a finish
00:22:15curling
00:22:16looping
00:22:17beyond Areola
00:22:20West Ham 2
00:22:21Aston Villa 3
00:22:30camera
00:22:32Dinia
00:22:35camera
00:22:36Marlin with the touch
00:22:38Marlin with the touch
00:22:39Dinia
00:22:41pushed away by Areola
00:22:42and cleared by Potts
00:22:46time running out for West Ham if they're to get anything from this afternoon's match
00:22:54Dinia
00:22:55Rodgers
00:23:00faced by Mavra Panos
00:23:02it's Morgan Rogers right across the face of goal
00:23:05Aston Villa coming out on top though
00:23:08West Ham 2
00:23:09Aston Villa 3
00:23:11If we're honest, we want to start games quicker and be on the front foot, but in the last couple of games I think we started slow and we've had to come back in the game and had to show a fighter determination, a character, but each and every player has got that, and the manager even more so.
00:23:25How much did you need that goal to make it 2-2 to come when it did, as early as it did in the second half?
00:23:31Yes, of course. We needed, firstly, to keep calm, keep being consistent and demanding in our game plan, and through it try to score, try to come back to the result like we did, and then play personality. I think we did everything.
00:23:51Offensively we were okay, but defensively we have to be more aggressive, more individual aspects that we cannot allow players with such much talent like Rodgers to have this space to do their actions, so it requires a big effort from all of us to try and rectify so we can perform the way we are performing and take results because this is really punishing us.
00:24:18I'm just pretty confident right now, obviously scoring a few lately, and when I've got the ball and received it, I saw they were kind of dropping off a bit, and I thought, yeah, I'm just taking a touch at my feet and just hit it, and I know I've got the quality from distance, I work on that kind of shot, and I'm just really happy at winning, and I'm grateful that it went in, and that will do win the game.
00:24:32Yeah, Theo, two more goals for Morgan Rodgers, almost a hat-trick for him, that's nine away goals for Aston Villa, and all of them have either been to draw them level or to put them in front. He did both today. What did you make of his overall impact on the game?
00:24:46Well, we look at, you know, big performances in really important players, but his influence right now in this Aston Villa team is really standing out. You can just see the confidence in his play, and what I really like is his intent from minute one.
00:25:00He sets the tone on how he's going to perform this whole game, and it's just this initial give and go of Tillemans who connected constantly throughout the game. It's just to show that Wan-Bissaka, you're going to have a handful today.
00:25:11This is where we kind of see him at times in the middle of the park, but he always likes to operate and move, and always keep moving. You always keep your defenders guessing.
00:25:20And he operated a lot on the left-hand side today, which we haven't really seen him play too often, but it's these little touches here, which are clever, and already Wan-Bissaka's already concerned about him.
00:25:28And this is what we're talking about, what he's been doing for minute one, the different side of it, where he can give it and go and show that other side of him.
00:25:35And at times, as a defender, it's an absolute handful to deal with, and a fantastic cross as well.
00:25:40This is what I like at times, to be a good player, you don't have to do too much movement. Messi's lived off that for many, many years, but, look, gets his shot away, and we've seen those going on another time.
00:25:50But this is his goal. Tillemans, who's been absolutely fantastic today, starts off, he's recognised already the weakness in Wan-Bissaka's game.
00:25:58He recognises it all the time, he finds his space, and this is where you're going to get your goals, but not just how he finishes it.
00:26:04First touch is fantastic, composed, confident, it's a man who's actually right now playing at his best.
00:26:10This is where we kind of feel Morgan Rodgers drifts into these spaces, where he can recognise there's danger.
00:26:16And like you said there, when you give him time and space, and the players drop off, and they can do this, the technique, we've seen it recently against Spurs.
00:26:24I mean, the way it just picks up the pace, the closer it gets to the goalkeeper, and look, I'm not a goalkeeper at times, I'd think maybe you could save it, but, Joe, you've just got to talk about this strike.
00:26:32The way the goalkeeper sees it late, for me, absolutely fantastic.
00:26:35Yeah, Theo, if he talked about mastering that technique, and I saw him score a goal against Leeds with that technique, and Areola, it ends up being not that far away from him, it's just so unpredictable, it's not a predictable curve or swerve.
00:26:46He sets it with, like, the top of his ankle, with not too much pace, and it either dips or rises, and that's why you see Areola, such an athletic goalkeeper, get beat with relative ease.
00:26:56I couldn't do that.
00:26:58But he is something special, Morgan Rodgers, and it was a really good comeback from Aston Villa, but this is becoming a bit of a habit for West Ham.
00:27:06Nuno talked about this and said, you know, we are really struggling to hold on to a lead.
00:27:11They led twice in this game.
00:27:13How much of a concern, or how concerned should they be, Joe?
00:27:16Of course they should be concerned.
00:27:17The Premier League's relentless, we know, we've seen it in so many games this season.
00:27:21Taking the lead, that's not game over, you know.
00:27:23Teams have got so much in there, Arsenal, so much on the bench, coming back, you've got to stay focused for 90-plus minutes.
00:27:29And look, they weren't terrible today, but they were up against a good Villa side who didn't panic when they went behind.
00:27:34Three good goals and another loss.
00:27:36Obviously, with a former Arsenal and Manchester City player sitting in the studio, we need to talk about the title race.
00:27:42Are Villa very much in this?
00:27:44I think so, I do.
00:27:45I feel like when you have a very difficult start, you can go two ways as a team, as a squad, but Emery's obviously got that confidence in them.
00:27:53They're playing with some good stuff at this moment in time, so for me, they would be a problem.
00:27:57But yeah, I'm concerned about your lot, Manchester City.
00:28:00Three points between the top three, with Aston Villa starting to open up a little bit of a gap now between themselves and Chelsea in fourth, Joe.
00:28:07Yeah, they are.
00:28:08As expected, I think, Arsenal and Manchester City up there.
00:28:11But Villa, I think the biggest compliment you can pay them is with a difficult start.
00:28:15They've beaten both Arsenal and Manchester City.
00:28:17They're definitely capable.
00:28:19Whether they can mount a charge is yet to be seen, but Arsenal and City are definitely going to be there at the end.
00:28:24They've got Arsenal again on the 30th of December.
00:28:26That's something to look forward to.
00:28:28Next, we've got the first Premier League weird-time derby since 2016.
00:28:32One of the fiercest and finest rivalries in English football in the matter is you.
00:28:42I'm on the front page, on the back page, every page of every paper.
00:28:45Bitsley!
00:28:47Brilliant goal!
00:28:48I'm a hero, I'm your saviour.
00:28:50Here it hits it!
00:28:51Phillips, something that will score!
00:28:53I don't blame you!
00:28:54If you're looking at me, I would be looking at me too!
00:28:58Red and white tonight!
00:28:59It's weird-time derby day!
00:29:04I don't blame you!
00:29:06Guy Mowbrie was at the Stadium of Light.
00:29:11It's been more than nine long years since the prides of the weir and the tyne last came together for a Premier League derby.
00:29:19The return of a special fixture.
00:29:23The Sunderland team shows three changes from last weekend's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
00:29:28Three, Ranildo, Shemstein, Talby and Brian Brobby come in to start.
00:29:32And for Ranildo, Talby, Noah Siddiqui and Bertrand Traore, it's one heck of a game to sign off in before departing for international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
00:29:42For Newcastle, two changes from Wednesday's Champions League draw at Leverkusen.
00:29:47Anthony Alanga replaces Harvey Barnes.
00:29:49And with Joe Linton not 100% and on the bench, Lewis Miley comes in, joining Dan Byrne as the only two true locals to start the game.
00:29:58Before kick-off, Sunderland salutes their former player, Gary Rowell, who sadly passed away yesterday, aged just 68.
00:30:09A Sunderland lad, a hero to a generation.
00:30:12The scorer of their last derby hat-trick in 1979.
00:30:17He always had incredible timing.
00:30:19In 137 years of meeting, there have been 157 previous matches with Newcastle ahead by just one win.
00:30:38And now they come together with Sunderland ahead by just one point.
00:30:42Ylanga up to Volta Marder, and Gordon's got loads of room on the left.
00:30:49Volta Marder can't find him.
00:30:51Gordon's furious about that.
00:30:54Look at Gordon, the pass is on, but he doesn't get it right.
00:31:00Two who know what it's like to score in one of these games.
00:31:04Jermaine Defoe and Kevin Phillips, goodness me, there's some goals between those two.
00:31:09I don't think Steve Bauer scored that many.
00:31:12But he keeps good company.
00:31:15Michele, Traore.
00:31:20Here's Brobby.
00:31:23Upended by Malik Chao.
00:31:26And the referee's got the yellow card out, has he?
00:31:29Yes, he has, for the first time today.
00:31:31It's Brobby for demanding that there should be a yellow card.
00:31:37Oh, the irony.
00:31:38In a game like this, when we expect tackles to fly in,
00:31:42and the first yellow is for doing that.
00:31:45As Alan Shearer reminded me, only this morning, it is really important,
00:31:51whether you're red and white or black and white,
00:31:53to play the game, not the occasion.
00:31:56Some can get a little too over keen.
00:32:00Burn.
00:32:00Gordon.
00:32:01He's won it, Dan Byrne will get the next one, and Michele didn't even attempt to stop himself sliding into him.
00:32:14He's claiming it was pure momentum, but he's got a yellow card, and I don't think there's much argument about it.
00:32:20It is the definition of reckless.
00:32:22He's not getting there first.
00:32:29Now Sunderland try and break, but Brobby didn't get even as far as the halfway line.
00:32:34Tonali.
00:32:34Miley.
00:32:39Ooh, has Brobby caught Miley there?
00:32:43Le Fay.
00:32:49Traore.
00:32:53Le Fay.
00:32:53Hall is there to stop the cross.
00:32:56And Brobby involved plenty this half.
00:32:58He's got a yellow card for waving an imaginary card of his own, and then that happened not so long ago.
00:33:06A risky thing to do when you're on a yellow.
00:33:10Xhaka.
00:33:17Xhaka's cross.
00:33:19Ballard.
00:33:20Flung himself at it.
00:33:22Couldn't get over the top of it.
00:33:28Friore takes up possession for Sunderland.
00:33:35Friore delivers.
00:33:37The cross is repelled.
00:33:39Sunderland get a throw.
00:33:42Mokieeli.
00:33:44Winding up the big one again.
00:33:48Ramsdale stays back.
00:33:51Chou got it away.
00:33:52Here's Xhaka.
00:33:55Mokieeli.
00:33:55That's a good ball.
00:33:56Voltemard has headed it into his own net.
00:34:00Sunderland lead.
00:34:01One minute into the second half.
00:34:06By far and away, Nick Voltemard has worst moment in a Newcastle shirt yet.
00:34:12You don't do that.
00:34:13Not today.
00:34:14Not in this game.
00:34:16Wrong goal.
00:34:19Wearside delirium has ensued.
00:34:22It's a wonderful cross from Mokieeli.
00:34:26Voltemard though has bulleted that home as though he was trying to score for Newcastle.
00:34:32Couldn't have done any better with it.
00:34:35Sunderland won.
00:34:36Newcastle United nil.
00:34:38The place has taken off.
00:34:40Voltemard wishes he hadn't.
00:34:43Normally at the Stadium of Light, that scoreboard would say Sunderland won.
00:34:47Then the name of the opposing team and their badge nil.
00:34:51Today just visitors.
00:34:54The name is not being uttered.
00:34:57Tremendous levels of Derby Day pettiness.
00:34:59Up towards Isidore.
00:35:08Really good ball.
00:35:09Isidore.
00:35:10Really good try.
00:35:11And smartly saved by Ramsdale.
00:35:13Oh, he's done well with that Wilson Isidore.
00:35:19The control and the attempt to finish.
00:35:22Just magnificent.
00:35:25Delivermento.
00:35:25Murphy.
00:35:30It's deflected and Wiss has got to it but not with enough contact.
00:35:35Roofs with a really grateful claim.
00:35:38That's as good as it's been for Newcastle for quite a while.
00:35:40Towering leap from Ranildo.
00:35:47Xhaka.
00:35:48He got something on it.
00:35:49Roofs has then gone down.
00:35:51And a free kick's been given to Sunderland.
00:35:53Ranildo wants a word or two with Joe Willock as well.
00:35:57And the referee's in to try and defuse it.
00:35:59It's the first flare-up of Derby Day.
00:36:04And it's going off further up the field as well.
00:36:07Lewis Hall and Wilson Isidore have squared up to one another.
00:36:10Le Fay not far away.
00:36:13Where did that spark from?
00:36:16Told you it was anxious all round.
00:36:23That will do it.
00:36:26Sunderland have had a remarkable return to the Premier League.
00:36:29But never mind what's gone before.
00:36:32This was the one they wanted more than any other.
00:36:37Sunday night usually means early closing.
00:36:39Not here.
00:36:40Not tonight.
00:36:42It'll go on into Monday.
00:36:44It might go on into 2026.
00:36:46Sunderland won.
00:36:47Newcastle United nil.
00:36:50Tell us about the experience of the Derby from your point of view.
00:36:54Noisy.
00:36:55Noisy and good connection with our fans.
00:36:59I think we had the opportunity to score.
00:37:01And after that we stayed composed, calm.
00:37:04Even if the game was tense and tough, tight.
00:37:09But yeah, good maturity and happy for the lads.
00:37:12Huge disappointment for us in terms of result and performance really.
00:37:15I don't think we ever truly got going from an attacking sense.
00:37:19It was a game of real lack of chances for both teams.
00:37:21There wasn't a lot of classical goal mouth action.
00:37:23But we're disappointed with our output and we know we need to do better.
00:37:26You got that photo to keep at the end of the whole team in front of the fans.
00:37:30You weren't here two years ago when Newcastle did that after winning here.
00:37:33So was that something that the players thought about?
00:37:35Whose idea was that?
00:37:36Yeah, I believe that in life everything comes back.
00:37:39And we had some players that played this two or three years ago
00:37:42and the painful was still there from them.
00:37:44So I think it has a little bit to do with respect.
00:37:47Of course, the away team, they win here.
00:37:50You need to give the handshake.
00:37:51But to do a picture in front of our fans in the stadium
00:37:54is not what we will do if we go away.
00:37:57But yeah, this is a little bit of karma.
00:38:00And we can do it because we are playing at home with our fans,
00:38:03with our support.
00:38:03They've been amazing all year.
00:38:06But even today.
00:38:07And we take this picture.
00:38:09And we're happy.
00:38:11So just for comparison,
00:38:12this is what Newcastle United did in January 2024
00:38:15when they beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Cup.
00:38:19So Sunderland returned the favour.
00:38:21That and visitors on the scoreboard.
00:38:23Are we here for that level of pettiness?
00:38:26It'll be interesting to see if they get a result in Newcastle
00:38:28if they recreate a picture, wouldn't it?
00:38:30But look, it's a connection.
00:38:31It's going to be a bit hard when they're all the way up in the stands.
00:38:34Yeah, so true.
00:38:35But look, it's great.
00:38:37It's what it means to them.
00:38:37So it's a great connection to be part of the club.
00:38:39So yeah, fair play to them.
00:38:40Yeah, you've got to have a bit of fun with it, haven't you, Joe?
00:38:42Yeah, of course.
00:38:43And Newcastle deserved their win, just like Sunderland deserved their win.
00:38:46However you want to celebrate is up to you.
00:38:48But, you know, obviously it touched a nerve with a few of them.
00:38:50Yeah, and the way Sunderland approached the game,
00:38:52this was not a match that had a lot of goal-mouth action.
00:38:55No.
00:38:55However, the application can't be faulted.
00:38:58Oh my goodness me.
00:38:59When you look at that starting line-up,
00:39:01you're obviously not seeing any locals born in the city of Sunderland.
00:39:04But geez, they represented like they were born in Sunderland today.
00:39:07It was an incredible effort.
00:39:08The tenacity, it was an absolutely brilliant game
00:39:10if you look for an old-school English derby.
00:39:13From the off, Broby setting the tone.
00:39:15But they didn't just press recklessly,
00:39:17they pressed really intelligently.
00:39:19They kept setting little traps for Newcastle,
00:39:21shutting them down.
00:39:22And then here we see Volta Marder.
00:39:24That is Newcastle's main man.
00:39:26Absolutely no doubt about it.
00:39:27And if you want a stadium to erupt,
00:39:29bang, Ballard in.
00:39:31Turns the big man over and they're on the front foot again.
00:39:33But as I say, it wasn't reckless.
00:39:35They were pressing on the front foot,
00:39:37sending Newcastle down little angles
00:39:38and little avenues that they didn't want to be,
00:39:41which allowed Sunderland to get on the front foot.
00:39:43They were able to push them back.
00:39:45They looked a little bit like they'd run out of ideas eventually.
00:39:48Pushing them on.
00:39:49Dan Byrne put under a lot of pressure here.
00:39:51Down a blind alley.
00:39:53And this is what the stadium loves.
00:39:54If you're not creating goal-mouthed chances,
00:39:56you want to see your team on the front foot,
00:39:58pushing your opposition back.
00:40:00And ultimately, it's an easy turnover
00:40:01when Ramsdale has to go long.
00:40:06This is Ballard threatening both boxes.
00:40:09This was one of the only real chances.
00:40:10Look, it wasn't too many chances in this game.
00:40:13But this is straight away in the second half.
00:40:15Look, you get a lot of chances from throw-ins.
00:40:17Of course you do.
00:40:18But Sunderland identified that it would be a weak header
00:40:20if it is a header away from goal.
00:40:22Xhaka, such an intelligent player.
00:40:25Mukiele, really good ball in.
00:40:26Voltamada will not want to see that again.
00:40:28He's had such a great start in Newcastle's shirt.
00:40:30You feel for him, but that's not a good moment for the big man.
00:40:34But a little bit of in-house game.
00:40:36You know, you see Gordon's finally got his chance
00:40:38to open his legs.
00:40:40Nailed.
00:40:40And this is Xhaka.
00:40:42We talk about him.
00:40:43Such an experienced pro.
00:40:44This is the 93rd minute.
00:40:46He takes one here.
00:40:47He takes one for the team.
00:40:48He realises he's not going to get a foul for it.
00:40:50You've got to get up.
00:40:51Got to get up.
00:40:5293rd minute.
00:40:53All hands to the pump.
00:40:54A little bit of Xhaka.
00:40:55Yeah, we've all seen that before.
00:40:57And as Roos gets nailed,
00:40:59it all bedlam breaks loose.
00:41:00But I'm telling you now,
00:41:01walking off the field as the centre mid
00:41:03with blood dripping from your eye
00:41:04and a 1-0 win.
00:41:05That is a great feeling.
00:41:06Yeah, if he wasn't a hero before then,
00:41:08he's going to be a hero after that.
00:41:09Look, in terms of the intensity from Sunderland,
00:41:13there will be people,
00:41:13Anthony Gordon amongst them,
00:41:15as we saw Dan Byrne,
00:41:16who had to go to hospital
00:41:17and have his ribs x-rayed.
00:41:18He had problems with breathing
00:41:19after that challenge from Mukiele in the game.
00:41:23At times, did it threaten to boil over,
00:41:26do you think?
00:41:26A little bit.
00:41:27But I think they were good on his tackles.
00:41:28Obviously, the Dan Byrne one
00:41:29isn't great on the eye.
00:41:31But I think he'll appreciate that.
00:41:33The big man.
00:41:33He's a big, fair player.
00:41:34We don't want to see anyone get hurt,
00:41:36but the intensity was incredible today.
00:41:38The other thing that Sunderland fans
00:41:40will be delighted about
00:41:41is that now they've overtaken Newcastle
00:41:43in terms of wins in this fixture.
00:41:45It was level coming into this one,
00:41:4729 games,
00:41:48and now Sunderland have 10 wins
00:41:50in the Premier League.
00:41:52And that's just one of those things
00:41:53in a derby situation
00:41:55that feels good, Theo.
00:41:57And as well,
00:41:58it's a great feeling
00:41:59at the whole club at this moment in time.
00:42:00They're here to stay, aren't they?
00:42:04Sunderland, I feel.
00:42:04And you can kind of feel
00:42:05the whole connection to the club.
00:42:06But look, they are in a good moment
00:42:08and they continue to be like that.
00:42:09Yeah, they've got themselves
00:42:10in a really good position.
00:42:12Now, with three wins
00:42:13in five Premier League games,
00:42:15Sean Dyche has steadied the ship
00:42:16since taking over at Nottingham Forest.
00:42:18Today, they hosted a Spurs side
00:42:20who've won more matches away
00:42:22than at home.
00:42:23Your commentator is Martin Fisher.
00:42:24Forrest make three changes
00:42:27to the side,
00:42:28beaten at Everton,
00:42:29including a Premier League debut
00:42:31for Brazilian keeper
00:42:32John Victor.
00:42:33Matt Sells ruled out
00:42:35with a groin injury.
00:42:36Murillo is back in defence.
00:42:38Callum Hudson-Odoi
00:42:39preferred to Danone-Odoi
00:42:40on the wing.
00:42:42Spurs named the same 11
00:42:44that beat Brentford last Saturday.
00:42:46Only Benton Coor
00:42:47and Kolo Mawani
00:42:48didn't start their Champions League win
00:42:50over Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
00:42:53Dutchman Xavi Simmonds
00:42:54scored in both
00:42:55of those victories.
00:43:00Forrest have struggled
00:43:01to pick up Premier League points
00:43:02after their European travels
00:43:04this season.
00:43:05Losing four of their five games
00:43:07after being in action
00:43:08on a Thursday night.
00:43:10Just the one defeat
00:43:11for Tottenham
00:43:12after their Champions League exploits.
00:43:16Hutchinson,
00:43:17who's been a bright spark
00:43:18off the bench
00:43:19in recent weeks,
00:43:20feeding Savona to cross.
00:43:22Sangare's header
00:43:23against the post
00:43:24and as far as
00:43:25Igor Jesus,
00:43:26in goes Williams.
00:43:27Chance is still there.
00:43:28Great save by Vicario
00:43:29and then the flag
00:43:31up against Savona
00:43:32far side.
00:43:34Well,
00:43:35after such a
00:43:37lethargic start
00:43:38by both teams,
00:43:40it bursts into action.
00:43:42Good overlap here
00:43:43by Savona
00:43:44who was onside
00:43:45and when it came into the middle
00:43:48it's a bullet header
00:43:49from Sangare
00:43:50and then Williams
00:43:51was on target
00:43:52with his effort.
00:43:53Vicario stopped it
00:43:54and then up goes the flag.
00:43:58Thomas Frank unbeaten
00:43:59in his last four visits
00:44:01to the city ground.
00:44:02Winning two of them
00:44:03including a 2-0 success
00:44:05back in May.
00:44:06Milenkovich is up there.
00:44:08Here he is!
00:44:09Should have done better.
00:44:13Well, he'd been up
00:44:14for a minute or so
00:44:15waiting for a delivery
00:44:17like that
00:44:18from Nico Williams.
00:44:19Gray
00:44:26pocket pinch
00:44:27by Sangare
00:44:28and it's in
00:44:29by Hudson-Odoi.
00:44:31What a gift
00:44:33for Nottingham Forest.
00:44:35Archie Gray
00:44:36accepts his responsibility
00:44:38and the Forest fans
00:44:41and the Forest players
00:44:42cannot believe
00:44:44their good fortune.
00:44:47Always a possibility.
00:44:49when you try to play
00:44:50the ball
00:44:51out from the back.
00:44:54Tottenham have been
00:44:54doing this
00:44:55all afternoon.
00:44:56This time it's Gray
00:44:57rather than Benton Coor
00:44:58who comes to collect
00:44:59to knock it left
00:45:00to Van der Ven.
00:45:01Turn the other way.
00:45:03Sangare read it perfectly
00:45:04and then unselfishly
00:45:06as he was quickly
00:45:08closed down by Vicario
00:45:09put it on a plate
00:45:11for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:45:16Spurs seem to have
00:45:17woken up at last.
00:45:19Kolo Mouane.
00:45:21Spence.
00:45:24Poor cross.
00:45:25Gray to hit it!
00:45:26Good save by John
00:45:28down to his right.
00:45:30Well that would have been
00:45:31sweet, sweet redemption
00:45:32for young Archie Gray.
00:45:35Spence with the approach
00:45:36and on the swivel
00:45:37that's a good hit.
00:45:40And John does well
00:45:40to keep it out.
00:45:41Oh it's danger
00:45:43from Pedro Porro
00:45:44straight to Hutchinson.
00:45:47Spence recovered well
00:45:48and Gray takes over.
00:45:52Finding Koudos
00:45:52steps inside Williams.
00:45:56Hudson-Odoi got back at him.
00:45:58There is a criticism
00:45:59of Koudos
00:45:59as it is that
00:46:00sometimes he just
00:46:01holds on to the ball
00:46:02a fraction too long.
00:46:03At the other end
00:46:03it's Hutchinson.
00:46:06Igor Jesus.
00:46:07Gibbs-White is up there.
00:46:09Waiting!
00:46:10And very nearly
00:46:11stretched to make it to.
00:46:14Excellent work
00:46:15from Igor Jesus.
00:46:16Gibbs-White just
00:46:18held his run here.
00:46:20Knew that he was
00:46:20in danger of
00:46:21straying into an
00:46:21offside position.
00:46:22Held it, held it
00:46:23and then attacked
00:46:24and couldn't quite get there.
00:46:30Sangare
00:46:31getting the neck muscles
00:46:32working to
00:46:33ensure that header
00:46:34reached Hudson-Odoi.
00:46:38He was twisting
00:46:38Benton Kerr
00:46:39this way and that.
00:46:40Great ball!
00:46:41Oh it's better than that!
00:46:42It's a magnificent goal!
00:46:45Callum Hudson-Odoi
00:46:46his second of the game
00:46:48and Vicario is beaten
00:46:50for a second time today
00:46:54and Hudson-Odoi
00:46:56who was gifted the first
00:46:58brings brilliance
00:47:01to this occasion
00:47:02to get his second.
00:47:05Did he intend it?
00:47:07Well, we'll find out later
00:47:09I'm sure.
00:47:11And Spurs
00:47:11who have been so ordinary
00:47:13since we started
00:47:14now have an even
00:47:16bigger mountain
00:47:17to climb.
00:47:22Anderson
00:47:23look at the space
00:47:24for Hudson-Odoi
00:47:25on for Igor Jesus
00:47:27oh he's gone for goal
00:47:30and it whistles
00:47:33just wide
00:47:34in Vicario's far post
00:47:35only got his first
00:47:36Premier League goal
00:47:37in the recent
00:47:38away win at Wolves
00:47:39but in all competitions
00:47:40the Brazilian
00:47:42is on seven now.
00:47:47Sean Dyche
00:47:48continues to pick up
00:47:49welcome Premier League points.
00:47:56Murillo
00:47:57lovely ball
00:47:58Anderson
00:47:58Hudson-Odoi
00:48:00wants it to his left
00:48:01what a dissimilar situation
00:48:03in the position
00:48:04to where he scored
00:48:05his second
00:48:05it's Sangari
00:48:06who bless
00:48:06oh
00:48:07what a hit
00:48:08from Sangari
00:48:09and that is his
00:48:12farewell gift
00:48:14to his teammates
00:48:15and the supporters
00:48:17of Forrest
00:48:18as he heads
00:48:19to the AFCON
00:48:20with Senegal
00:48:21that's the final
00:48:23nail for Tottenham
00:48:24that's for sure
00:48:24what a strike
00:48:29and Sangari
00:48:31who hadn't scored
00:48:33at all for Forrest
00:48:34in two and a bit
00:48:35seasons
00:48:36since
00:48:36the victory here
00:48:38over Leeds
00:48:39last month
00:48:39has now scored
00:48:41two
00:48:41in five weeks
00:48:433-0
00:48:48would be Forrest's
00:48:50best win
00:48:51over Tottenham
00:48:52since 1987
00:48:53in goes
00:48:56Douglas-Louise
00:48:57his first involvement
00:48:58is a good one
00:48:59Gibbs-White
00:49:00feeding Hudson-Odoi
00:49:01Anderson
00:49:03just taking up
00:49:04a good position
00:49:05on the edge
00:49:05patted into
00:49:08as he released
00:49:09that
00:49:09free kick
00:49:11and a very
00:49:12inviting position
00:49:13here for Nottingham
00:49:14Forrest
00:49:14they look like
00:49:16a team
00:49:17who just want
00:49:17to get off
00:49:17the pitch
00:49:18right now
00:49:18and
00:49:19get the plane
00:49:20home
00:49:20Gib-White
00:49:24attacks it
00:49:25Vicario away
00:49:27Hutchinson
00:49:27with the reef
00:49:28bound
00:49:28well
00:49:32the pressure
00:49:33had eased
00:49:34slightly on
00:49:35Thomas Frank
00:49:35but this defeat
00:49:37and this performance
00:49:38in particular
00:49:39will just
00:49:39bring that
00:49:41all to the
00:49:41fore
00:49:41again
00:49:43another
00:49:44disappointing day
00:49:45for them
00:49:46in the Premier League
00:49:46Nottingham Forest
00:49:483
00:49:49Tottenham Hotspur
00:49:500
00:49:50there's bound to be
00:49:53pressure on you
00:49:54again now
00:49:55how do you
00:49:56respond to that
00:49:57I think there's
00:49:58pressure on all of us
00:49:59every game
00:50:00we need to perform
00:50:01there's no doubt
00:50:02about that
00:50:03I'm pretty sure
00:50:04it's not a one-man
00:50:05band
00:50:05it would be very
00:50:06bad if it is
00:50:07it was only on me
00:50:08only on the players
00:50:09only on the staff
00:50:10it's all of us
00:50:10together
00:50:11and we will
00:50:12bounce back
00:50:13I'm not in doubt
00:50:13I thought the football
00:50:14today was a really
00:50:16good mix of our
00:50:16shape and our
00:50:17basics and the
00:50:18pressing lines
00:50:18and all them good
00:50:19things that you do
00:50:20off the ball
00:50:20but also with the
00:50:21ball
00:50:21we know we've got
00:50:22talent
00:50:22but the glue that
00:50:23holds the performance
00:50:24together is the
00:50:24work ethic and the
00:50:25shape of the team
00:50:26in my opinion
00:50:26so I like them to
00:50:27work and I thought
00:50:28that was on show
00:50:28absolutely
00:50:29and I was really
00:50:30pleased for them
00:50:30the second goal
00:50:31I'm not sure
00:50:32whether I should
00:50:32describe it as a
00:50:33worldie or a
00:50:34flute
00:50:34where would you
00:50:34put it
00:50:35I'd say it's a
00:50:36shot cross
00:50:37I think it's a
00:50:39mixture of both
00:50:39I think if the
00:50:40keeper doesn't come
00:50:40out he gets it
00:50:41if he comes out
00:50:43I'm buzzing with
00:50:44that going in
00:50:45I said it's a top
00:50:45performance and that
00:50:46from them it's
00:50:47credit to the team
00:50:47for the way they
00:50:48played and helped
00:50:49me get the goals
00:50:49when you've got two
00:50:50and there's best
00:50:51part of 25 minutes
00:50:52to go
00:50:53are you telling
00:50:54your mates to
00:50:54give you the ball
00:50:55at every opportunity
00:50:55I was like listen
00:50:57play it this side
00:50:58play it this side
00:50:59but now
00:50:59sometimes you just
00:51:00get a two and I'm
00:51:01happy with that
00:51:01today so yeah
00:51:02I'm delighted with
00:51:03the performance
00:51:03and as I said
00:51:04happy with my goals
00:51:05happy to help the
00:51:06team as much as
00:51:06possible but credit
00:51:07to them as well
00:51:08happy with both of the
00:51:10goals happy with
00:51:10the results
00:51:11Sean Dyche happy
00:51:12with the balance
00:51:13of everything that
00:51:14he was looking for
00:51:14from the hard work
00:51:15to the balance of
00:51:16play to their
00:51:17defensive duties
00:51:18but I want to ask
00:51:19you in particular
00:51:20about their
00:51:20attacking prowess
00:51:21and the skill they
00:51:23have in going
00:51:24forward
00:51:24and who's allowed
00:51:25that to happen
00:51:26is an axis
00:51:27that is Sean Dyche
00:51:27he's a man
00:51:28management
00:51:29the way he manages
00:51:30players sorry
00:51:31he plays the
00:51:32players strengths
00:51:33and these
00:51:34five four
00:51:36should we just
00:51:36say look
00:51:36all stood out
00:51:37today massively
00:51:38you can see
00:51:39you can see here
00:51:40highlighted
00:51:40Hudson-Odoi
00:51:41Féjus
00:51:42Hutchison
00:51:43and Gibbs
00:51:43White
00:51:43keeping the
00:51:44width
00:51:44and this is
00:51:46the first
00:51:46first chance
00:51:48early on
00:51:49with Sangari
00:51:49making a late
00:51:50run which
00:51:51is going to be
00:51:52missed in the
00:51:52AFCON
00:51:52but look
00:51:53that's what
00:51:53they're going
00:51:53to miss
00:51:54his energy
00:51:55from midfield
00:51:55and this is
00:51:57where the goal
00:51:57comes from
00:51:57it's not a great
00:51:59press however
00:52:00he recognises
00:52:01the players
00:52:02it's quite
00:52:02not lazy
00:52:03but look
00:52:04it's not great
00:52:06for Marjorie Gray
00:52:06but Sangari
00:52:07he smells danger
00:52:08sets up on a plate
00:52:10for Hudson-Odoi
00:52:11protects it away
00:52:12quite nicely
00:52:12but this is the
00:52:13other side as well
00:52:14Hudson-Odoi for me
00:52:15stands out
00:52:16the work rate
00:52:17that Sean Dyche
00:52:17is talking about
00:52:18which now access
00:52:19this freedom
00:52:20and this directness
00:52:21and for these players
00:52:23to finally actually
00:52:24be able to play
00:52:25with that freedom
00:52:25I spoke about
00:52:26early on
00:52:26a bit of a half chance
00:52:29I'd say
00:52:30maybe if he was
00:52:30on his toes
00:52:31he might have got
00:52:32a tap in there
00:52:32but look
00:52:33it's the bright habits
00:52:34they're getting
00:52:34numbers forward
00:52:35picking up spaces
00:52:36they all complement
00:52:37each other really well
00:52:38always keeping on the move
00:52:39look at the amount
00:52:40of numbers
00:52:41we're talking about
00:52:41Schroenday's team
00:52:42maybe being defensive
00:52:43look they've got
00:52:43five, six volleys
00:52:44in there
00:52:44half chance
00:52:46maybe could have been
00:52:46the second one there
00:52:47Sangari
00:52:50like I said before
00:52:51he's going to be
00:52:51missed with these
00:52:52runs
00:52:52but just to distract
00:52:53Archie Gray
00:52:54to access that space
00:52:55and Hudson-Odoi
00:52:56when you give him
00:52:56a one-on-one situation
00:52:57he says about
00:52:58a shot crossed
00:52:59who cares
00:53:00who cares
00:53:01quite frankly
00:53:01it's fantastic
00:53:02and this is what
00:53:03I'm talking about
00:53:03they complement each other
00:53:04the freedom
00:53:05and the excitement
00:53:07and the confidence
00:53:07they're now playing with
00:53:08at times
00:53:11they're making Tottenham
00:53:11run after shadows
00:53:13they really are
00:53:14and just
00:53:15the way you see
00:53:17the players
00:53:18just occupy the centre
00:53:19and allow that space
00:53:20to Sangari
00:53:20and just watch this
00:53:21outside the book
00:53:22fantastic finish
00:53:25and Sean Dykes
00:53:26will be really happy
00:53:26the way he's
00:53:27started his career
00:53:28not even for us
00:53:29right now
00:53:29they've been brilliant
00:53:29and like you said
00:53:30really noticeable
00:53:31the number of bodies
00:53:32that were able to get forward
00:53:33and were allowed to get forward
00:53:34for Nottingham Forest
00:53:36but it's another defeat
00:53:37for Tottenham
00:53:38they seem to have
00:53:39sorted out their home form
00:53:41and now their away form
00:53:42is suffering
00:53:43but they seem like
00:53:43they're only ever
00:53:44one game away
00:53:45from an enormous amount
00:53:46of pressure being put
00:53:47on Thomas Frank
00:53:48and he seems
00:53:49to accept
00:53:50that that's the situation
00:53:51as Spurs manager
00:53:52do you think his
00:53:53position is precarious
00:53:55every time
00:53:56they put in a bad performance
00:53:57every time
00:53:57they drop points
00:53:59I think it's just
00:54:00the manner of defeat
00:54:01that they've struggled
00:54:02when they have lost
00:54:03they've been really poor
00:54:04you know
00:54:04you look at the Arsenal game
00:54:06you look at the Chelsea game
00:54:07here today
00:54:08they've got quality in them
00:54:09they've got good performances
00:54:11you know
00:54:11they're doing well in Europe
00:54:12they've got good numbers
00:54:13in Europe
00:54:13and when they play well
00:54:14for example
00:54:15they beat Brentford
00:54:15with a fantastic performance
00:54:17but when they lose
00:54:19they lose badly
00:54:19and we all know
00:54:21that when you're at the top
00:54:22a team like Tottenham
00:54:23there's going to be pressure
00:54:24they are one point worse off
00:54:26at this stage of the season
00:54:27than they were
00:54:27last season
00:54:28they've got 22 points
00:54:29they had 23
00:54:30at this stage last season
00:54:32now only the Premier League's
00:54:33top three
00:54:34have won more points
00:54:35at home than Brentford
00:54:36this season
00:54:37today's visitors
00:54:38were Leeds
00:54:39who've only won once
00:54:40on the road
00:54:41your commentator
00:54:42is Mark Scott
00:54:43the loss at Spurs
00:54:46made it back to back
00:54:47Brentford defeats
00:54:48for the first time
00:54:49since Keith Andrews
00:54:50took over
00:54:51but both of those
00:54:52setbacks were
00:54:53on the road
00:54:54they have been
00:54:55a very different beast
00:54:56here this season
00:54:58the Bees are
00:54:59four different
00:54:59from the team
00:55:00that started
00:55:01the tame loss
00:55:01at Tottenham
00:55:02Hickey, Jensen,
00:55:03Janelt and
00:55:04Lewis Potter
00:55:04are in
00:55:05for Aja
00:55:06Yarmuluk
00:55:06Damsgaard
00:55:07and the suspended
00:55:08Shada
00:55:08Al-Tanaka's reward
00:55:10for his injury-type
00:55:11equaliser
00:55:12from the bench
00:55:13against Liverpool
00:55:13is a place
00:55:15in the Leeds
00:55:15starting line-up
00:55:16today
00:55:16as Ilya Gruev
00:55:18makes way
00:55:19while only three
00:55:21teams have a
00:55:21better home record
00:55:22than Brentford
00:55:23only Wolves
00:55:24have a worse
00:55:25away one
00:55:26than Leeds
00:55:27in the Premier League
00:55:27this season
00:55:28Okafor
00:55:30trying to prod it
00:55:31through for
00:55:32Calvert-Lewin
00:55:32it might come
00:55:33for Okafor
00:55:33anyway
00:55:34angles against him
00:55:35Kelleher has to
00:55:36make the save
00:55:37slack stuff
00:55:39from Brentford
00:55:39which very nearly
00:55:41resulted in the
00:55:42opening goal
00:55:42of the game
00:55:43and it was an
00:55:45inadvertent touch
00:55:46backwards from
00:55:47Vitali Janelt
00:55:47that gave Okafor
00:55:48the chance to
00:55:49surge through
00:55:50on goal
00:55:50but it was too
00:55:51tight an angle
00:55:52for him to
00:55:53truly test
00:55:54Kelleher
00:55:54Coyote
00:55:57got away from
00:56:00stack nicely
00:56:01Coyote
00:56:02Jensen
00:56:05still Jensen
00:56:09and it's
00:56:11done as he
00:56:12kick
00:56:12I was about
00:56:14to say
00:56:15he
00:56:15appeared to
00:56:17take a tumble
00:56:17a bit too
00:56:18easily
00:56:18but John
00:56:20Brooks
00:56:21has given
00:56:21the penalty
00:56:22they will have
00:56:26to check
00:56:27whether
00:56:27he was on
00:56:29side in the
00:56:29first place
00:56:30anyway
00:56:30Dongo
00:56:31Watara
00:56:31and then
00:56:32they'll get
00:56:33to
00:56:33checking
00:56:35how much
00:56:35contact there
00:56:36was between
00:56:37Gumansson and
00:56:38Watara
00:56:38and I have to
00:56:39say
00:56:39that looks
00:56:40soft
00:56:40well
00:56:43well it's
00:56:44it's not going
00:56:44it's not going to
00:56:44be a penalty
00:56:45kick
00:56:46not because
00:56:47they've
00:56:48deemed that
00:56:49John Brooks
00:56:49made the wrong
00:56:50call
00:56:50but because
00:56:51Dongo Watara
00:56:52is in an
00:56:53offside position
00:56:54Strauch
00:56:58oh he's given
00:56:59that away
00:57:00Hickey
00:57:01Henderson
00:57:02lovely poke
00:57:03through here
00:57:03for Lewis
00:57:04Potter
00:57:04beaten away
00:57:06by Perry
00:57:06Pascal
00:57:10Strauch
00:57:10is the
00:57:11most relieved
00:57:12man inside
00:57:13the ground
00:57:14awful
00:57:16pass
00:57:16Jordan
00:57:18Henderson
00:57:19with a
00:57:19beautiful
00:57:20ball
00:57:20that gave
00:57:21Lewis
00:57:21Potter
00:57:21the chance
00:57:22he hit it
00:57:23a bit too
00:57:24close to
00:57:24Lucas
00:57:24Perry
00:57:25really
00:57:25and
00:57:33Padua
00:57:33Calvert-Lewin
00:57:34Tanaka
00:57:37Oh
00:57:38Okafor
00:57:39over the
00:57:40bar
00:57:40Al
00:57:43Tanaka
00:57:43really stretched
00:57:44well to get
00:57:45his head to
00:57:46it
00:57:46he was
00:57:46aiming for
00:57:47Noah
00:57:48Okafor
00:57:48but
00:57:49what an
00:57:49awful
00:57:50attempt
00:57:50that was
00:57:51from the
00:57:51Swiss
00:57:52he forwards
00:57:55by
00:57:55Ampadu

00:57:57underneath
00:57:58it
00:57:58stacks
00:57:59in there
00:58:00and now
00:58:01it's
00:58:01Calvert-Lewin
00:58:02he's gone
00:58:04over
00:58:04and the
00:58:05hit
00:58:05comes in
00:58:05and
00:58:06it was
00:58:07somewhat

00:58:12of a
00:58:12drag

00:58:13but
00:58:14they've
00:58:15checked
00:58:16and cleared

00:58:17well
00:58:19they've
00:58:19got a
00:58:19good
00:58:19spot
00:58:20but
00:58:20they
00:58:20have
00:58:21not
00:58:22had

01:10:54in
01:10:54a good
01:11:01at the
01:11:01back
01:11:02it's
01:11:02tough
01:11:03but
01:11:03it's
01:11:03something

01:11:42looks
01:11:42really
01:11:43exciting
01:11:44at
01:11:44the

01:11:45when he
01:11:45came
01:11:45on
01:11:46against
01:11:46Manchester
01:11:46City
01:11:47but
01:11:48it's
01:11:48an
01:11:49important
01:11:49tournament
01:11:49and
01:11:50like
01:11:50I
01:11:50say
01:11:50all
01:11:50these
01:11:51clubs

01:11:55losing
01:11:55their
01:11:56right-hand

01:11:58for
01:11:59Everton
01:11:59as well
01:11:59with
01:12:00Gane
01:12:00and

01:12:01you
01:12:01mentioned
01:12:01them
01:12:02earlier
01:12:02Theo
01:12:02is that

01:12:09I

01:12:09a
01:12:09player
01:12:10like

01:12:12for
01:12:12him
01:12:12to
01:12:12really
01:12:13it's
01:12:13what
01:12:13I
01:12:13think
01:12:14it's
01:12:14an
01:12:15opportunity
01:12:15for
01:12:15players
01:12:15to
01:12:15stand
01:12:16up
01:12:16and
01:12:16think
01:12:16don't
01:12:16forget
01:12:17about
01:12:17me
01:12:17so
01:12:18look
01:12:18I
01:12:18think
01:12:18they'll
01:12:19be
01:12:19missed
01:12:19but
01:12:19there's
01:12:19some
01:12:20players
01:12:20that
01:12:20can
01:12:20come
01:12:20in
01:12:20and
01:12:20maybe
01:12:20do
01:12:21a
01:12:21job
01:12:21as well
01:12:21but
01:12:22look
01:12:22Arsenal

01:12:23none
01:12:23none
01:12:23for

01:12:27in terms
01:12:27of
01:12:27the

01:12:308
01:12:30Nori
01:12:30and
01:12:31Marmuj
01:12:31and
01:12:32apparently

01:12:32lose
01:12:33Mohamed
01:12:33Salah
01:12:33as well
01:12:34he's
01:12:34going
01:12:34off
01:12:34to
01:12:34represent
01:12:35Egypt
01:12:35there's
01:12:35been
01:12:36nothing
01:12:36said
01:12:36about
01:12:36that

01:12:38and
01:12:38that's
01:12:39quite
01:12:40an
01:12:40interesting
01:12:40one
01:12:41because
01:12:41in
01:12:41some
01:12:41ways
01:12:42that
01:12:43might
01:12:43just
01:12:44settle
01:12:44things
01:12:45down
01:12:45a little
01:12:45bit
01:12:46with
