00:00The United States is further restricting immigration visas.

00:06The State Department announced on Wednesday that it would suspend immigration visa procedures for applicants from 75 countries,

00:14which are deemed to likely require public assistance while living in the US.

00:19Temporary visas like those for visitors are excluded from the decision.

00:24It is for now unclear which countries are concerned by the new measure.

00:30An unnamed state official said that the list included countries like Russia, Iran, Somalia, Afghanistan, Brazil and Egypt.

00:39But the State Department is yet to release an official version.

00:43The United States has already suspended or restricted immigration visa procedures from several other countries in recent months.

00:51The latest move is in line with the US government's aggressive curb on immigration since Donald Trump arrived in office a year ago.

00:59The suspension of immigration visa procedures is set to begin on 21st January.
