00:00Tom Silvani is appealing his convictions, a spokesperson for Victoria Supreme Court
00:07today confirming that an application for leave to appeal has been filed by Silvani's lawyers
00:12to the state's court of appeal. Now, in December, a jury found Silvani guilty of two counts of rape
00:19after he raped a woman while pretending to be another man after a night out in 2024.
00:24Silvani then doctored an Uber receipt in order to cover his tracks while also in order to point
00:30the blame at the other man, one of his friends. Now, at this stage, we don't yet know under what
00:35exact grounds Silvani is appealing, though, of course, that would be outlined in the documents
00:40that have been filed to court, but they've yet to be provided to the media. Silvani was sentenced to
00:46six years and two months behind bars with a non-parole period of three years and three months.
00:52In sentencing, a judge was scathing in his findings and remarks, praising the courage of the victim
00:59survivor while also saying that Silvani's crimes were marked by planning, cunning and strategy and
01:06saying that he'd also demonstrated no remorse. We also heard an incredibly powerful victim impact
01:12statement during a pre-sentencing hearing where Silvani's victim said she was diagnosed with PTSD
01:17and that she was haunted by her rape every day. Now, that very same day, Silvani's parents,
01:24AFL legend Stephen Silvani and TV presenter Joe Silvani flagged that they would appeal his convictions,
01:30saying that they stood by his son. A court hearing date for his application has yet to be set, Rose.
