00:00New reporting this morning suggests the White House is moving closer to a decision point on
00:07Iran, even as President Trump says Tehran is now reaching out to talk. According to the Wall
00:13Street Journal, Trump is set to meet with his top national security military leaders tomorrow
00:18to discuss the next steps, including possible military action, as deadly protests inside Iran
00:24continue to escalate. That follows reporting over the weekend by the New York Times and
00:29Wall Street Journal, first to reveal that Trump had already been briefed on a range of military
00:34and non-military options, though no final decision has been made. The president has been steadily
00:39sharpening his rhetoric. On Saturday, he posted on Truth Social that Iran is looking at freedom,
00:46perhaps like never before. The USA stands ready to help. Just a day earlier, Trump laid out a clear
00:52warning. So Iran's in big trouble. It looks to me that the people are taking over a certain
00:59cities that nobody thought were really possible just a few weeks ago. We're watching the situation
01:05very carefully. I've made the statement very strongly that if they start killing people like
01:09they have in the past, we will get involved. We'll be hitting them very hard where it hurts.
01:14But overnight, the story took a new turn. Aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that Iran has now
01:20reached out directly, saying its leaders want to hold talks. Here was the exchange.
01:25They called yesterday. Iran called to negotiate. Yesterday, the leaders of Iran called. They want
01:35to negotiate. I think they're tired of being beat up by the United States. Iran wants to negotiate.
01:43We may meet with them. I mean, a meeting is being set up. But we may have to act because of what's happening
01:53before the meeting. But a meeting is being set up. Iran called. They want to negotiate.
02:00On the ground, the situation remains volatile. Protests continued Sunday in Tehran and other major cities
02:07with crowds openly chanting for regime change. Video from inside the country shows fires, looting,
02:13and heavy damage as security forces crack down, all unfolding amid a widespread internet blackout.
02:19Iran's president has blamed foreign enemies for the unrest, while hardliners warned that anyone
02:25protesting would face severe punishment. The U.S.-based human activist news agency reports more than
02:31500 protesters have been killed and close to 11,000 detained. And Iran's parliament speaker,
02:38the man seen here on the left, is warning that U.S. bases and shipping lanes would be targets
02:43if Washington intervenes militarily.
