Cornwall Council Leader, Cllr Leigh Frost, has given an update in the wake of Storm Goretti.
Transcript
00:00Good morning everyone. I just wanted to give you a quick update. Storm Goretti has caused major disruption across parts of Cornwall, particularly to roads, coastal areas and local infrastructure.
00:11More than 45,000 homes are currently without power and we're hopeful that National Grid will restore supplies by midday but obviously be prepared for delays.
00:20Council teams have been working alongside our emergency services and partner organisations to respond throughout the night and clean-up operations are now underway but the scale of the damage means that this will likely take several days.
00:35Our priority is to make the roads, footways and critical infrastructure safe but driving conditions remain treacherous.
00:43The A30 remains closed in both ways between St Earth and Long Rock due to multiple fallen trees.
00:50Police and specialist contractors are on the scene but clearance will take time.
00:55Please avoid affected areas where possible and if you can work from home today, please do.
01:01Also, many schools are closed or opening late so please check with your school.
01:05For urgent assistance, please use the emergency contact numbers on Cornwall Council's website, not social media, so we can help those who need it the most.
01:15Thank you for your patience and I hope you got through this the best you can.
01:19Thanks.
