00:00Chris Minns says he has full confidence in the Federal Royal Commission, but that some issues relating to NSW may need to be investigated more quickly.
00:11He says the Government is looking for immediate information to inform decision making, particularly in relation to advice from a Jewish volunteer security organisation called the Community Security Group to NSW Police.
00:24The group arranges volunteer guards to protect Jewish events. Currently, they're allowed to carry weapons at static sites like synagogues.
00:32However, they're seeking permission to station armed guards at mobile events such as the Hanukkah by the Sea celebration.
00:38The Premier wouldn't divulge much detail about the potential inquiry other than that it would be neither a Royal Commission nor a parliamentary inquiry.
00:46As for the Federal Royal Commission, he reiterated his support for the probe. He would not be drawn on whether he thought the PM acted too late and he would not talk about any private representations he might have made to the PM other than to say he's entitled to have confidential talks with him about a matter of such significance.
01:03He says he believes there should be more space for political leaders to change their minds.
01:07I also don't think that it helps to get into the politics of this. I mean the reality is if they see the evidence in front of them, if they're spoken to in a passionate way by victims, survivors and families about the need to get to the bottom of it, I think that that's a good thing in public life and I think the right decision has been made.
01:26He did reveal that terms of reference had been drafted for the State-based Royal Commission he'd been planning in the absence of a Federal one that says planning had not reached the stage of appointing a Royal Commissioner.
01:38The opposition has welcomed the Federal Royal Commission that criticised the PM for taking so long to announce it, saying it was long overdue.
