00:00A new national road safety strategy has been published, setting out plans to cut deaths
00:05and serious injuries on our roads. The strategy aims for a 65% reduction by 2035 and includes
00:13consultations on tougher safety measures. They include a minimum learning period for
00:19new drivers, eye tests for older motorists and lowering the drink drive limit. The plans
00:25have been welcomed in West Yorkshire by Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.
00:31She says the region remains committed to Vision Zero with the goal of preventing all road deaths
00:36and serious injuries by 2040. Alison Lowe has reiterated calls for graduated driving licences
00:43to be adopted.
